Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman separating

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman are separating after 30 years of marriage.

The two married back in 1982 and have 3 children together.

DeVito (5'0") and Perlman (5'1") met in 1970 when Rhea went to see an off-Broadway play, The Shrinking Bride ... which featured Danny.

The two began dating soon after and lived together for 11 years before tying the knot.

A rep for the couple confirmed the split -- but has no further comment at this time.

this is bullshit.
eronanke 8th-Oct-2012 04:23 pm (UTC)
I'm not going to play the 'love is dead' card, but wtf are these two doing? They are married 30 years, been together for over 40.

WTF could have happened to break them up NOW?
xtinkerbellax 8th-Oct-2012 04:32 pm (UTC)
Their relationship ran it's course? A lot of people are perfectly content to stay in a relationship when they've really just turned into close friends but others would rather go their separate ways.

u know danny devito is knee deep in pussy i bet he wants to sow his wild oats
frenchverbs 8th-Oct-2012 04:43 pm (UTC)
Maybe they just aren't happy together and would prefer to be separated and good friends than together and miserable.
chibi 8th-Oct-2012 05:19 pm (UTC)
there were rumors that danny is turning into a drunken mess.

TRUE LOVE IS DEAD. :(
cricketgrl 8th-Oct-2012 05:21 pm (UTC)
True love ??? WHAT?

I'm surprised Rhea didn't leave him decades ago. DeVito is a fucking mess and has been for most of his life. I don't know how Rhea tolerated him for this long.

I may be a little cynical but no divorce surprises me anymore. It's kind of inevitable at this point.
nathanandbarry 8th-Oct-2012 04:27 pm (UTC)
God, I'm starting to think that way too. I don't want to but I don't really know people who are actually happy together and stay together.
_storysofar 8th-Oct-2012 04:32 pm (UTC)
My parents. They've been married 30 years, and dated 12 years before that. They've gone through hard times but worked through it. It's still an insane challenge, especially for celebrities
_underwhelmed 8th-Oct-2012 04:44 pm (UTC)
my grandparents are, but they are intoxicated for 70% of their waking hours. so i think alcoholism is the solution
mellarks 8th-Oct-2012 04:56 pm (UTC)
My grandparents celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary a few months before my grandmother died. My grandpa has been a fucking wreck without her.
anastrophe 8th-Oct-2012 04:56 pm (UTC)
My grandparents are celebrating 60 years next month. Their generation does have a bit more of a have to stay married attitude but those 2 genuinely love each other. It's so obvious. Plus my grandma used to talk to my mom about their sex life, like how it was still good, up until a few years ago (when I imagine it got a bit to tricky to actually do).
guccipostagurl 8th-Oct-2012 04:59 pm (UTC)
I can't think of anyone I know that's in a healthy relationship.
superhetoric 8th-Oct-2012 04:49 pm (UTC)
i heard some statistic recently that said that only like 15% of marriages are "successful." i thought that was a little generous.

i think happy long-term marriages and relationships exist, but they're the exception, not the rule. it seems so weird to me that our whole society is based around the fantasy that everyone is going to meet their "one true love" and stay with them forever. it's just not realistic, especially now that people are free to make their own life choices.
pink_dog 8th-Oct-2012 08:48 pm (UTC)
I hope that the key is always being honest, even when you're scared to be. Like, take infidelities in a marriage: if you knew your spouse was thinking of cheating, and s/he was confessing all the details to you while they were in his head, before he acted on them...you two could figure out a way to deal with it that was acceptable. But if he runs off and dips the wick and then you find out LATER? oooh, that's hard to come back from. You know?

Anyway, I HOPE absolute truthfulness is the key, because that's the strategy my husband and I are using and we hope to make it like 60 years and be sitting together at the old folks' home one day.
