Michael Vick Has a Dog?

Photobucket

Michael Vick has a new dog. Or very bad snacks.

Long before Sunday's first kick-off, the Internet lit up with amateur online sleuths dissecting a photo that Eagles quarterback Michael Vick tweeted Thursday. In it, Vick (well, the back of what looks like Vick's head) and his daughter share a homework night around the dinner table, she with worksheets, daddy with an iPad watching game film.

But a sharp-eyed radio host in Philadelphia noticed that on the table was an open box of Milk-Bone dog biscuits.

Vick, of course, became among the most widely hated athletes in history with his arrest for running and participating in a barbaric dog-fighting ring in 2007. Vick served 21 months in prison before returning to the NFL in 2010 and being named Comeback Player of the Year.

He has since spent significant amounts of his own time and money advocating for anti-cruelty and anti-dog fighting campaigns, including lobbying for a federal law that would make just watching a fight a crime and bringing a child to one a felony.

Still, Vick remains a hated symbol to many and still draws venomous reaction whenever he appears in the public eye.

Minutes after the Milk-Bone tweet appeared, it was removed and replaced with a Milk-Bone-less picture, though Vick's daughter's notebook was still visible with what appear to be glued-on pictures of dogs on the cover. Adding to the mystery is Vick's iPad, which appears blurred, as if someone didn't want a secret to get out. Whoops.

I thought something had been lifted to allow him to get a dog? I still don't think he should. Just sayin'.

ROFL!!!! This is what happens when you feel the need to share every moment of your life online. I bet self incrimination will become a lot more prevalent as time passes.
chantalzola 8th-Oct-2012 12:12 am (UTC)
It already has become more prevalent. Lots of arrests have been made because of jackasses leaving incriminating evidence on Facebook, geotagging on twitter, etc.
phillymademe 8th-Oct-2012 12:32 am (UTC)
it always kills me when people beat someone up, post it on youtube to show off and then are shocked when cops are knocking at their door.

random, but your comment made me think of that.
anus 7th-Oct-2012 11:43 pm (UTC)
I thought he's had a dog for a while because of his kids...
d00ditsemily 7th-Oct-2012 11:44 pm (UTC)
if true, that's stupid. I'm sorry but as a parent when you fuck up your kid's suffer. It sucks but that's what happens when you become a parent. Think of the many parents that aren't millionaires or play ball that have had to suffer the consequences and can't get a job because their criminal background.
xtinkerbellax 7th-Oct-2012 11:46 pm (UTC)
IA. I remember him talking about how it wasn't fair to his kids and thinking, well it's a good lesson to them, our actions don't just affect us, but our loved ones as well.
mneiai 8th-Oct-2012 01:13 am (UTC)
Ugh, this, exactly. But, oh, he just abused dogs, why ever should he not be allowed to own another one?
ellenelles 8th-Oct-2012 01:22 am (UTC)
this is so american and i'm laughing at the responses to this comment tbh
libre_m 8th-Oct-2012 08:02 am (UTC)
Exactly. Having to tell you child why they can't get a dog, because of the horrible things you did, is part of the punishment. Besides that, an animal's right to be safe far outweighs a child's disappointment.
punch_and_jenn 7th-Oct-2012 11:45 pm (UTC)
yeah, I definitely remember an interview with him about getting a dog for his kids (recently?)

PROBABLY from sniffing other dogs' poop! Both of our dogs got it this way, it was awful. AWFUL. AWWWFUUUL!!
beating_heartss 8th-Oct-2012 02:00 am (UTC)
I think pets can get them from eating their own fleas
bakemonos 8th-Oct-2012 05:59 am (UTC)
Fleas or flea dander or eating feces with worms in it.

This post is what I was thinking of: http://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/70488346.html

After Vick served 19 months in federal prison ... he was banned from owning dogs for 3 years. That ban is about to expire, and Vick thinks having a dog could be "therapeutic" ... for his children. He told Piers, "I can't take that dream away from them. That's selfish on my behalf."

squishinator 7th-Oct-2012 11:50 pm (UTC)
is he only allowed one or is he gonna get multiples so they can fight... i mean play, with each other.
publicfrenemy 7th-Oct-2012 11:45 pm (UTC)
I'm a dog lover, and I'll never forgive him for what he did, but if we never gave people a chance to redeem themselves, we'd live in a very depressing world.

I hope this works out.

iawtc
d00ditsemily 7th-Oct-2012 11:46 pm (UTC)
He is only getting to redeem himself because he's a millionaire LBR. If he was the average Joe on the side of the street he'd be laughed at for asking for a dog for his kids.
loveconfess 7th-Oct-2012 11:48 pm (UTC)
Actually I disagree, if he was an average Joe no one would give a fuck if he had a dog or not.
asha_greyjoy 7th-Oct-2012 11:50 pm (UTC)
if he was some average guy nobody would care if he owned a dog
magwildwood 7th-Oct-2012 11:54 pm (UTC)
Considering average joes with violent crime convictions can get their hands on guns pretty easily, I am sure he'd be able to get that dog too
chantemarissa 8th-Oct-2012 12:12 am (UTC)
yeah no
ohkimosabe 8th-Oct-2012 12:31 am (UTC)
If he was an average joe people wouldn't even care.
chikntetrazzini 7th-Oct-2012 11:46 pm (UTC)
<3 Also, even if he still thinks that fighting pitbulls is okay, he might not have the same view of a maltese. I'm not too worried about this dog's safety. I mean, we already know it's getting treats!
nachomuchacho 7th-Oct-2012 11:49 pm (UTC)
Exactly. I hated him as much as everyone, but I truly think he deserves another chance. If anyone seems to have learned from their mistakes, it's him.
xtinkerbellax 7th-Oct-2012 11:53 pm (UTC)
It's not like he's unemployed and destitute or anything, I think due to the extent of what he did, him being barred from owning animals in the future is more than fair.

ia and he seems to actually take responsiblity, he's still donating money and doesn't he go places and talk about it?
People say he's only sorry he got caught but at least he got caught and stopped? Like I'd rather have him be caught and stopped instead of him still being out there doing it
maveness 7th-Oct-2012 11:57 pm (UTC)
I totally believe there are people who will never learn from their mistakes (I work in a jail, I see it every day). They expect the laws to change in their favor or to be allowed to do what they want, no consequences.

But I always hope for the ones that won't come back because they've gotten their lives right. I don't care how many times a person had been in jail, I want them to get their lives right and not come back again. If Mike Tyson, after years of stupidity could finally see the light and get his act together, then almost anyone can.
sweet_honesty 8th-Oct-2012 12:14 am (UTC)
I know redemption is something ONTD typically doesn't believe in, but I agree. Animal abusers really disgust me, but he seemed to really admitt his mistakes and change himself. He's really owned up to what he did, unlike many celebrities who would never.
dancedallnight 8th-Oct-2012 12:18 am (UTC)
+1
quidscipio 8th-Oct-2012 12:59 am (UTC)
i agree actually. maybe it's too naive of me to want to believe in the good in people and that people can change for the better.
sunredskyblue 8th-Oct-2012 01:01 am (UTC)
i agree
libre_m 8th-Oct-2012 08:04 am (UTC)
I think people are absolutely capable of redeeming themselves and payinig back their debt to society.
But I also think that he should never be able to own a pet again. Just like people who kill their kids or abuse kids - sterilisation. We can't take chances with another life, pet or child, that you've successful rehabilitated yourself.
stellawuzadiver 8th-Oct-2012 04:24 pm (UTC)
Yep.
nene718 7th-Oct-2012 11:45 pm (UTC)
what is he legally banned from owning one?

the guy's an asshole but i think he's learned his lesson.

Don't say that to ONTD

He"ll always be an asshole but he did his time.
nachomuchacho 7th-Oct-2012 11:55 pm (UTC)
He did his time and then some. He went out of his way to volunteer and speak for various animal charities. Sure, a lot of it could be to save face, but I think he's sorry and deserves another chance.

venetianglass 7th-Oct-2012 11:51 pm (UTC)
I'm with you, bb.

_storysofar 7th-Oct-2012 11:46 pm (UTC)
Unpopular opinion, but for some reason I feel like he did learn his lesson. I could be totally wrong. Still don't think he should have a dog though
jayel_05 8th-Oct-2012 04:46 am (UTC)
I don't think he should be imprisoned forever, and I think people can change.

However, knowing that he electrocuted dogs and strangled animals to death with his own hands...If you don't feel something bad doing that, I don't know that you can just learn to feel empathy later.

Basically I agree. I hope he learned his lesson, and I feel he served his time, but I really don't think he needs to own a dog.
