Franchesca Ramsey Taps Natural Hair Vloggers For 'The Secret To Long Natural Hair!' Parody

We all know that patience is a virtue, but it's also the secret to long natural hair--which is precisely the message our favorite funny girl Franchesca Ramsey aka Chescaleigh is delivering in her new parody video.

Ramsey, who we know and love from the viral video "Shit White Girls Say...To Black Girls," is keeping the laughs coming with her latest meme "The Secret To LONG Natural Hair!" aimed at devotees of the natural hair movement. And with close to 9,000 YouTube videos dedicated to tips, tricks, potions and lotions that will promote growth of au naturale manes, it's definitely a hot topic that's just begging to be used for comic relief.

The Infomercial style spoof features Ramsey, natural hair vloggers Taren Guy and Hey Fran Hey, and the ladies of Urban Bush Babes proudly proclaiming that they've found the answer to long curly tresses; a product called "Patience" (read: chill out)

This tongue-in-cheek PSA is definitely welcomed and beyond hilarious, especially since we ultimately know there's no miracle product that will have us rocking a TWA (teeny weeny afro) on one day and a Tracee Ellis Ross-'do the next. However, a little patience goes a long way.

Hair Post? I think this is funny but after two years of trying to grow my hair out I am running low on Patience and I most definitely do not
love my hair.

she was tweeting up a storm about a youtube video where some guy @ byu (maybe) put on black face and interviewed people "in honor of black history month" or some crap.
the video was really fucking stupid, but franchesca kept going on about it without watching it and without providing a link to it.
when i pointed out that she was missing the youtuber's point @ the end of the video (about how no one noticed he was in blackface which was terrible...rme) by not even watching the video, she went off on me. we went back and forth for a while and i called her ignorant and she retweeted it so people would see lol.

I've been natural for about a year and a half now and I'm so tired of explaining to people that I don't do anything to my hair and that it grows out of my head this way.

I'm also tired of people asking me what I'm mixed with and not believing me when I tell them I'm Black. My mom is Black, my dad is Black, grandma, grandpa, all Black. I'M BLACK. Shit.

xsnickerzzx 6th-Oct-2012 12:17 am (UTC)
ugh i hate that too. "you got indian in yo family?" shoo, probably, but what african american that descends from slave doesn't have a little bit??
supermishelle 6th-Oct-2012 12:20 am (UTC)
Seriously. And the sad thing is it's always Black men who are asking me what I'm mixed with like they don't know that most descendents of slaves are mixed.
winegums 6th-Oct-2012 12:45 am (UTC)
I'd understand the question maybe if you were East African/from the Caribbean since there are actually sizable Indian communities there, but that's got to be annoying regardless.
putyohandsonme 6th-Oct-2012 12:42 am (UTC)
Haha I hate when people are is that a perm how did you get it so curly lol. I have been growing my hair out for 3 years and I have such bad hair envy because I see other girls on blogs and youtube who cut their hair around the same time and their hair is so much longer than mine it makes me sad lol.
runandtelldat 6th-Oct-2012 01:44 am (UTC)
I've had too many people grab tuffs of my hair, and ask "How'd you get it so nappy?"
daydream11 6th-Oct-2012 03:29 am (UTC)
I got my first "are you mixed?" question since I began transitioning last Monday. It was a bizarre experience.
dnttllhrry 6th-Oct-2012 03:42 pm (UTC)
"I'm also tired of people asking me what I'm mixed with and not believing me when I tell them I'm Black. My mom is Black, my dad is Black, grandma, grandpa, all Black. I'M BLACK. Shit."

Ive gotten that too, I feel like they think its supposed to be a compliment....
msloserrific 6th-Oct-2012 07:17 pm (UTC)
Someone once looked at my hair and asked me what kind of black I was. When I answered "African American" they looked at me like I was stupid and asked again.

My second response was that I was mixed with black, colored and negro in my ancestry.
nene718 5th-Oct-2012 11:30 pm (UTC)
lord knows i need some

but now that it's long enough to put in a ponytail so that i don't have to deal with it every day, i'm more satisfied
jonesingjay 5th-Oct-2012 11:30 pm (UTC)
can anyone recommend products for dread maintenance?
chescaleigh 5th-Oct-2012 11:51 pm (UTC)
what stage are your locs in and what exactly are you looking for? shampoo? conditioner? product for re-twisting? personally, i like to keep my routine as simple as possible, but i think shea moisture has a great line of products along with hair rules. i don't use anything to twist my hair except water.
jonesingjay 6th-Oct-2012 12:02 am (UTC)
they are down to my shoulders. i'm thinking of cutting them. i've had my hair this way for 5 years or so and started off by completely cutting my hair off. i'm looking for shampoo, conditioner and also a great product to moisturize my scalp because it gets quite dry. i will look into shea products. any other suggestions?
phililen3 6th-Oct-2012 10:32 am (UTC)
Head and shoulders, as expensive as it is, is my best buddy pal homey chommie china in the whole wide world. Where I would be without it, I don't know...

I also like mine neat so I have them twisted every two months into a style to hold them like that for about a month.
thewunderland 5th-Oct-2012 11:31 pm (UTC)
I don't have patience. But really, my hair only seems to grow when I'm not messing with it or when I have it in a protective style.

I put my hair in braids most of the time (because im fucking busy and dont have time to do my hair every night) But my hair grew like crazy when i took them out after a month 1/2. Protective styling is your best friend. Also low heat and I only comb/detangle my hair once a week.
thewunderland 6th-Oct-2012 04:12 pm (UTC)
Definitely true. My hair was only in braids/twist till I was 16 and I had mad long hair. I don't have the proper skills to make braids that would look neat even after 6 weeks (like my mom has) but protective styling is the best thing for my hair + it's a cute look. I think I'm even going to braid my hair tonight.

Do you do your own braids?
hoot 5th-Oct-2012 11:31 pm (UTC)
Hey chescaleigh!

I'm super jealous that she's friends with soundlyawake. My love for him will never die.
chescaleigh 5th-Oct-2012 11:56 pm (UTC)
hey!

did you see that he had 2 viral videos last month?? he taped his mom sleep walking and then did a video of her watching herself sleep walking. he got like 8 million views or something in about a week. freaking crazy. he was on jimmy kimmel! i almost posted it here, but i forgot :P anyway, i was so excited for him. i love seeing my friends on tv lol
hoot 6th-Oct-2012 12:00 am (UTC)
YES! I was so happy for him! My mom actually called me up right after it went viral and said, "Did you see that youtube video of the lady sleepwalking?" Then I fangirled out and sent her links to like 20 of his videos. That guy's so talented, he deserved to be world famous ages ago.
ginormouspotato 5th-Oct-2012 11:31 pm (UTC)
also all the girls in that video are so gorgeous and have goddess like hair ahhhhh <33

I'm at a loss as how to get this relaxer out, so to speak. It's been in my head since I was six.
misscrystal 5th-Oct-2012 11:34 pm (UTC)
Physically or mentally?
sandstorm 5th-Oct-2012 11:47 pm (UTC)
I suppose both. Because I see some comments saying to cut part of it out as well as stop, and I really pay little attention to my hair as it is.
violetsapphire 5th-Oct-2012 11:35 pm (UTC)
Just stop relaxing! Best thing you can do for your hair!
winegums 5th-Oct-2012 11:43 pm (UTC)
stop relaxing, bb. That's the only way to get rid of it.
illiade 5th-Oct-2012 11:51 pm (UTC)
I just cut all my hair off and let it grow back because I'm lazy.
chescaleigh 5th-Oct-2012 11:53 pm (UTC)
you just need to grow your natural hair out and trim the relaxer as it grows. the bond between your natural and relaxed hair will be very weak, so you might want to get your hair braided to ease the transitioning process and then cut your relaxed ends when you've got an amount of growth that you're comfortable with.
dnttllhrry 6th-Oct-2012 03:50 pm (UTC)
Shave your head.
hndshksatsunrse 5th-Oct-2012 11:31 pm (UTC)
I have combo hair and I let that shit go natural for awhile. It was nice for a bit, but honestly I like it better straightened. my face and head are too big for my tiny little body. I wish it were more curly though, if it were more curlier I'd def leave it alone :/
myblackass 6th-Oct-2012 03:05 pm (UTC)
I have four different textures of hair on my head. The crown is thick and wavy, the sides are kinky coily, the area from one ear across the back of my head to the other ear is something in between, and my nape is fine and nearly straight.

The first time I chopped my hair off I could figure out why the back still looked slightly relaxed. Now at least I know why I always got so much breakage on the top and back when my stylist would used super strength relaxer on my whole head.
misscrystal 5th-Oct-2012 11:33 pm (UTC)
Patience doesn't help when you have weak hair :/ I've got weak nails, too. Vitamins, moisture, protein, diet, exercise...none of it helps. My hair and nails both break and split at the drop of a hat. I'm only natural right now because my hair breaks slower when it's natural.
supermishelle 5th-Oct-2012 11:39 pm (UTC)
My nails used to break really easy too then I started putting nail hardener on them. It kept my nails from breaking.
amanda_aces 5th-Oct-2012 11:53 pm (UTC)
Henna might help?
I sound like a lunatic screaming "HENNA" all over this post but it works for me.
misscrystal 5th-Oct-2012 11:54 pm (UTC)
I really want to try it! I feel like I've tried everything else at this point. Can you give me some insight on how it's helped your hair?
hunnichild 6th-Oct-2012 12:20 am (UTC)
I'm seconding henna. It's seriously pretty fucking amazing.
annevic 5th-Oct-2012 11:34 pm (UTC)
I feel your struggle, op. My hair grows okay now, but when I was trying to grow out my relaxer I swear it hovered at the same length for a year. It's frustrating when you just want to cut the ends off, but you know if you do you will be rocking the Fredric Douglass. I have insane shrinkage though; my hair is almost at waist length when straightened, but when it's curly it barely reaches my shoulders.
roguewave3 5th-Oct-2012 11:41 pm (UTC)
I finally figured out how to clip my dead ends a few weeks ago. I don't want to wear braids every again and my hair is short so all I can do is put in it a ponytail. I hate my hair texture too. I feel like their isn't a product in the world to make my hair look decent. I've been thinking about just relaxing it and calling it a day.
winegums 5th-Oct-2012 11:46 pm (UTC)
same here tbh

there is nothing short of a scalpful of oil that will stop my hair from being crazy, most days. The relaxer is tempting, it takes me remembering the breakage and the colour change to not do it.
amanda_aces 5th-Oct-2012 11:52 pm (UTC)
Have you tried henna?
shining_starsxx 6th-Oct-2012 12:03 am (UTC)
Lol the Fredric Douglas. I know that style well.
pixiesilver 5th-Oct-2012 11:35 pm (UTC)
