Selena gets Roman numerals etched onto the back of her neck

The Disney starlet recently got a tattoo across the back of neck, which spells 76 in Roman numerals.

The 20-year-old went to artist-to-the-stars Bang Bang for the new addition, visiting his New York City studio.

He apparently only spent 20 minutes carving the five letters into her skin and she seemed pretty pleased with the artwork.

On completion of the task Gomez posed in front of a mirror for her picture to be taken, her epidermis looking slightly sore and red from the experience.

Bang Bang – who has also worked on her Spring Breaker co-star Vanessa Hudgens - explained the number means something special to the singer and actress.

He revealed: ‘The tattoo was a tribute to a family member who she said means a lot to her.
‘Selena was nervous it might have been painful, so she held her best friend's hand the whole time. But she did a great job.’

"carving the five letters into her skin"

ic daily mail.
meleeisgood 30th-Sep-2012 09:16 pm (UTC)
inorite?

it's tattooing, not carving.

also they are numerals and not letters.
wildelight 30th-Sep-2012 04:52 pm (UTC)
if i ever got a tattoo, it'd be on my finger

i don't ever want one though
preparatory 30th-Sep-2012 05:52 pm (UTC)

evelyn_94 30th-Sep-2012 06:22 pm (UTC)
are you muslim? I'm just curious
fuckmyass 30th-Sep-2012 07:40 pm (UTC)
DO NOT get a finger tattoo. I got one at 18 (26 now) and it has faded SOOO bad, it looks like shit. I just want it off of me.
killmyunicorn 30th-Sep-2012 09:57 pm (UTC)
Finger tattoos are cute and trendy right now(like dolphins in 1995) but in reality I think it can really screw up job prospects.....and I say this as someone currently getting laser removal on mine. Also most of these tiny trendy ones will fade to crap.
hplover234 30th-Sep-2012 11:03 pm (UTC)
I have one on my finger. I got hired as a teacher, in a Catholic school. So obviously it didn't affect my job opportunities. (:
evel66 2nd-Oct-2012 06:37 pm (UTC)
I have two finger ones and mine aren't slender at all, lol. They look fine.
tiiara 30th-Sep-2012 04:52 pm (UTC)

idityna 30th-Sep-2012 06:34 pm (UTC)

foxylov3r 30th-Sep-2012 09:06 pm (UTC)
madde!!
cloudsss 30th-Sep-2012 04:53 pm (UTC)
I actually think it's v cute. I love type-like font in tattoos. If I ever get a tattoo it'll probably be similar font or Courier New.
vatulele 30th-Sep-2012 11:15 pm (UTC)
I have a typewritter font tattoo. I love it. It's a line from 'The Bell Jar' so I thought it was appropriate.
handsdowntoo 30th-Sep-2012 04:53 pm (UTC)
I hate neck tattoos.
lalazizara 30th-Sep-2012 04:56 pm (UTC)
im getting two more within the next year, but i gotta have them in spots i can cover for my job
asha_greyjoy 30th-Sep-2012 04:56 pm (UTC)
i dont know if id trust a tattoo artist who had his neck and hands done before his arms
brosling 30th-Sep-2012 05:03 pm (UTC)
lmao i just noticed

isn't that like against the unwritten rules of tattoos
mynamehere07 30th-Sep-2012 05:13 pm (UTC)
Why would that be a bad thing? I know nothing about tattoo rules.
asha_greyjoy 30th-Sep-2012 05:15 pm (UTC)
its pretty poor planning, but mostly it just looks kind of tacky, like you wanted to get tattoos that you could always show off and look cool. it makes sense if you pretty heavily tattooed since you run out of space, but when you go straight to hand and neck it looks really attention seeking.
jinxeh13 30th-Sep-2012 07:35 pm (UTC)
To be fair, we can only see his forearms; he could have his upper arms and shoulders completely covered.
caketime 30th-Sep-2012 09:08 pm (UTC)
but but but neck tattoos can be so hot.
jennitarox 30th-Sep-2012 04:57 pm (UTC)
I've always wanted a tattoo like that on the back of my neck. Text.
whitefox 30th-Sep-2012 04:57 pm (UTC)
I love her tattoo ( I like the placement too)
I want a tattoo but I just don't know what of :/
baroness 30th-Sep-2012 04:59 pm (UTC)
i love it tbh
i have a tattoo in the same place as well :)
showmesara 30th-Sep-2012 05:00 pm (UTC)
She did a great job? It's a neck tattoo, and a simple one at that. It didn't take long. Let's give her a standing ovation for that.

on another note, I like the tat. Looks good
bee_xx3 30th-Sep-2012 06:16 pm (UTC)
Lol I've heard the worst stories about people freaking out mid tattoo and the artist actually having to deny them service.
showmesara 30th-Sep-2012 06:27 pm (UTC)
I've witnessed that first hand. A friend of mine got a tattoo between her shoulder blades and she could not keep still. But that was also a much larger, elaborate and detailed tattoo. I found it odd that the dude was basically congratulating Selena on sitting so well for a tattoo like that.

I have 7, my tattoo artist is a friend so even if I try to say NO MORE he's like "no bitch you're staying" lol. my last tattoo was my first color tat and it hurt SO BAD. I was tearing. I asked if he could just finish the color another day and he's like ok...yet proceeded to do it. I know it kinda sounds evil, but I'm actually glad he did it because I cant imagine having to go through that pain TWICE.
jinxeh13 30th-Sep-2012 07:33 pm (UTC)
Yup. Last time I was getting tattooed (on my ribs - hurt like a bitch) there was a girl there getting more done to a GIANT tattoo going along her side, starting from her armpit and going down her thigh. And she was crying and sobbing and shaking and I was just like...then why on earth would you get something so big, in such a sensitive place (the most work seemed to be going on along the ribs), if you couldn't really handle the process? Weird.
brosling 30th-Sep-2012 05:00 pm (UTC)
luv it
candycheeks 30th-Sep-2012 05:01 pm (UTC)
nice!
ddlovato 30th-Sep-2012 05:02 pm (UTC)
im suprised it took her this long to get one (apart from that little thing on her wrist)
joyriders 30th-Sep-2012 05:03 pm (UTC)
there is no "carving" involved when getting a tattoo. ugh.
joyriders 30th-Sep-2012 05:04 pm (UTC)
also, i'd never trust a tattoo artist with bare arms but hands + neck done. pose harder, dude.
wigglybob 30th-Sep-2012 05:07 pm (UTC)
lolol i don't know crap about tattoos and even i know that looks suspect
jinxeh13 30th-Sep-2012 07:35 pm (UTC)
To be fair, we can only see his forearms; he could have his upper arms and shoulders completely covered.
knockelles 30th-Sep-2012 05:03 pm (UTC)
I love the placement but eh would never get one there because I'd want to be able to see my tattoo without a mirror. Same goes for my back.
brosling 30th-Sep-2012 05:04 pm (UTC)
i have one there and that's why i picked the placement tbh otherwise i'd get sick of it
actxappalledx 30th-Sep-2012 06:41 pm (UTC)
haha yea, i have a tattoo on my right shoulder blade, and i always forget that it's there until, like, summer time when i have a tank top on and everyone is like omg! you have a tattoo?!
buttermell0w 30th-Sep-2012 10:30 pm (UTC)
how bad did it hurt there? i have one on my forearm and i didnt feel anything but i'm getting a small one on my shoulder blade when i go back to my parents home (i want to go back to the same guy down there) for the holidays.
frenchverbs 30th-Sep-2012 07:29 pm (UTC)
I have one tat on my thigh, but if I were to get another one, it'd be on the back of my neck. That way, I wouldn't have to look at it every day and the likelihood of me getting sick of it would be slim.
milly 30th-Sep-2012 08:56 pm (UTC)
I have one there because I love the placement (and it's also script, but vertical), but I also have a delicate black vine on my wrist and a letter on my ankle because I wanted to see them.

TBH, I forget about the neck tattoo sometimes.
