Filming Locations for Captain America

In addition Cleveland, Ohio, it appears filming in the capital city of the USA, Washington, D.C. has been locked in for the forthcoming Marvel sequel centered on the Sentinel of liberty.

Trailing Marvel Studios’ announcement earlier today that Captain America: The Winter Soldier's principal photography will take place in Cleveland, Ohio, we’ve stumbled across another shooting location prearranged for the forthcoming sequel. During an interview with Reel Talk with Film DC Podcast, conducted a little over a month ago, the senior communications manager with the DC Film Office, Leslie Green, revealed that Washington, District of Columbia is on Marvel's radar for the Chris Evans-starrer.

“We have the Captain America sequel that should be shooting here in the Spring of 2013,” Green asserted, after being asked to name upcoming projects set to film in D.C.. “So we're very excited about Marvel and Disney coming here for that,” she added.

Although Marvel productions have been prone to shooting in cities that’d double for another location in the film, usually because it’d be too expensive to destroy them on-location, we have certain obvious reasons to believe that part of The Winter Soldier story will in fact take place in D.C.. Exact shooting locations in D.C. are unknown, as well as what the scenes will involve. Filming may also occur in New Mexico, according to Latino Review.

Described as a political thriller, Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will pick-up where the highly anticipated film “Marvel’s The Avengers” (May 4, 2012) leaves off, as Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) continues his affiliation with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and S.H.I.E.L.D and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world. With an expected return from James 'Bucky' Barnes (Sebastian Stan), actor Anthony Mackie is also set to star. And Anthony & Joe Russo (“Community,” “You, Me and Dupree”) take over directorial duties from Joe Johnston, who helmed the first film. And “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” hits theaters on April 4, 2014.

Marvel Returning To Cleveland, Ohio To Film CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER
After filming a bulk of Marvel's The Avengers spectacle in the Ohio city, Marvel Studios have announced that shooting for Captain America: The Winter Soldier will take place in Cleveland too!

Marvel Studios certainly aren't pussyfooting around with production on Iron Man 3 currently underway in South Florida, and filming for Thor: The Dark World showcasing London “in a major way.” And now the studio has announced a familiar shooting location for their next “Phase 2” cinematic outing, that will follow the two aforementioned films. After doubling for New York City and Stuttgart, Germany last year for the production on Marvel's The Avengers colossal box office hit, Cleveland, Ohio is where principal photography for Captain America: The Winter Soldier is scheduled to take place, according to Greater Cleveland Film Commission:

“Marvel is pleased to return to Ohio, this time with our Captain America: The Winter Soldier production. The location, talent and people of Ohio are sure to benefit our film, and we look forward to beginning production,” said Louis D'Esposito, Co-President, Marvel Studios.

The Greater Cleveland Film Commission was in talks with Marvel Studios for weeks, sharing information about Ohio's physical assets and helping them learn about the benefits of filming in Ohio -- including the recently expanded Ohio Motion Picture Tax Incentive.

“We're thrilled that Marvel Studios is bringing another major motion picture project to Cleveland, and we're committed to showing them the very best our region has to offer,” said Ivan Schwarz, executive director of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission. “We proved with the filming of Marvel's The Avengers that Cleveland has the talent, architecture and amazing locations that will provide filmmakers everything they need to ensure a successful filming experience, and the economic impact of this new project can't be denied. Filming will create a number of jobs for Ohioans and will give our region another chance to demonstrate how skilled, professional and dedicated our workforce truly is. We especially appreciate Governor Kasich and the Ohio Film Office for their support and timely approval of these exciting opportunities.”

The Greater Cleveland Film Commission is committed to building a year-round, sustainable statewide film industry through job creation, workforce development, and attracting media production.

Frank G. Jackson, Mayor of Cleveland, Ohio, stated, “We are thrilled to host Marvel and the filming of Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2013. We have worked diligently with the Greater Cleveland Film Commission to make our city an attractive location for films of all sizes. Marvel's return to Cleveland shows we can provide a film-friendly atmosphere that will ultimately lead to a permanent presence of the film industry in Northeast Ohio.”

“We are thrilled that Cuyahoga County is being seen as a destination for filmmakers,” said Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald. “The resources that we have to offer, including our skilled workforce, makes our region a natural fit for the film industry. Projects like this means jobs and economic development for Cuyahoga County.”

You might be able to try out for an extra. A bunch of my friends from Columbus were extras in Avengers during the "Germany" scene, which was filmed in Cleveland.
maisontv 1st-Oct-2012 01:28 am (UTC)
I live in Cincinnati, so I don't think that will be possible. It's going to take me four hours to drive up there. I would totally do it if I lived closer.
chibik3r0 1st-Oct-2012 01:31 am (UTC)
I don't think they had to be up there every day. I think they had to go up/audition or whatever the process is to get things started and then were given specific dates/times they needed to be there.

If you are interested, I can try to find out more information from them about the whole process.

I live in Columbus and I wanna stalk so bad! I regret not doing so when they filmed The Avengers.

I need to read Winter Soldier. I usually have a hard getting into comics, but I've heard really great things about this story.
pon_pon_pink 30th-Sep-2012 04:51 pm (UTC)
i want too but i don't know where to start @_@; (and since Germany sucks and i have no place to buy any... i need to download comics)
365reasonswhy 30th-Sep-2012 05:16 pm (UTC)
They have a whole collection of the Winter Soldier story, so I think that's where I'm going to start.

I don't know if it's downloadable anywhere, but the German version of Amazon.com has it:

Being a broke student is no fun.
pon_pon_pink 1st-Oct-2012 08:26 am (UTC)
totally..i mean 18 euro is not THAT much, but it's groceries for like...2 weeks and i have to think "do i want to starve or do i want to read comics". it sucks...
squirrels_oh_no 30th-Sep-2012 04:23 pm (UTC)
I heard rumors that it was going to shoot in Wilmington like Iron Man 3 but I guess that was wishful thinking. NC has been losing out on a lot of stuff since the Republicans took over.

I just saw the Avengers for the first time last night and now I just want to shut myself up in my apartment for a day and watch all these superhero movies, or better yet, read the comic books. I watched it for Mark Ruffalo who is my favorite and NEEDS HIS OWN HULK MOVIE NOW but I loved Chris Evans too, which prompted me to come home and google him and read all of his recent interviews and now I can't wait until this movie comes out either. Wow, ramble.

I'M 'SERIOUSLY SO EXCITED RIGHT NOW

I met Joaquin Phoenix when he and John Travolta were filming Ladder 49 in Annapolis. (i missed John by a half hour, my sister and mom met him, said he was the nicest guy)

BUT SERIOUSLY, JOAQUIN IS AMAZING, HIS EYES ARE UNREAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL IN REAL LIFE. He was super nice, and kept talking to us even while he was signing other peoples stuff, and as we were walking away, (we were halfway down the street by then) he realized we had left and he yelled out BYE! IT WAS REALLY NICE MEETING YOU! and waved at us

DIED. DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIED.
