'Glee' Roundup: A Finn and Ryder Duet, an 'Evil and Dashing' new character and more

The Return of Finn

Glee is two episodes into the new season, and Finn has been MIA so far. Fortunately for all you Cory Monteith fans, he's about to make his return in next week's episode, "The Break Up," where we'll see him head to New York. While Cory isn't spilling the beans on if he and Rachel are getting back together (only that it'll be an "emotional roller coaster," as TVLine put it), he did reveal he'll be pairing up with The Glee Project season 2 winner Blake Jenner (whose character is Ryder Lynn) on Foreigner's "Juke Box Hero" that is expected to be in the November 8 episode.

"It was cool," Monteith says, "because I felt like I was passing the torch in a sort of awesome way. Ryder inadvertently auditions [for New Directions], and it turns into a fantasy in his head, which explodes into dancing girls, throngs of screaming women in the crowds, and he turns into the 'Juke Box Hero.' He's on drums, and I'm on lead vocals. It's epic."

If Finn will be in New York and Ryder at McKinley, and especially since this performance is a fantasy, it is unclear why the two of them would be coming together on a song, or how Ryder would even know who Finn is (unless he makes a stop first in Ohio).

Casting for a "Handsome, Evil and Dashing" Character

We've already been introduced to a handful of new characters so far in season 4, including Marley (and her mother), Jake, Kitty and Brody. But expect another recurring character to pop up on the show, starting in episode 7. According to Zap2It, the character's name is Peter Livingston, and he is a "high school student fresh out of military school." Producers are currently going through the casting process to fill the role.

For those who audition, here's the type of person they're looking for: "someone pretty imposing ... he's got to be over 5'11" and have 'gravitas.' Peter is described as 'handsome, evil and dashing,' and he's got to have singing and dancing skills." Evil and dashing, huh? Will he be anything like Sebastian? BuddyTV will keep you updated when a casting announcement is made.

What about Karofsky?

The last we saw of Dave Karofsky, he was in the hospital after an attempted suicide. How about some more closure for this troubled character? Unfortunately, that's not going to happen. Executive Producer Brad Falchuk says, "I don't have any plans [to bring him back]. I'd never say never, but I thought we really finished that story nicely. It was very clear: He's OK. He's out now. In the future, there's a possibility of him being really happy. You never know -- he might come back. We might need him for something. You never know when you need someone to talk to Unique or something. But there's no more story to tell with that character, as far as I'm concerned."

So the door is not completely closed. But mentioning Unique brings up a possible upcoming storyline that we could expect.

"The Break Up" Songs

The song list for next week's episode of Glee, titled "The Break Up," has been revealed: "Barely Breathing" by Duncan Sheik, "Don't Speak" by No Doubt, "Give Your Heart a Break" by Demi Lovato, "Mine" by Taylor Swift, "The Scientist" by Coldplay and an acoustic version of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream." If you recall, Blaine and the Warblers already covered the Katy Perry hit back in season 2, and it was extremely successful for the show. But it's being done acoustically this time around -- will lighting strike twice?

Do you think Rachel is going to get back together with Finn or start going out with Brody? Should Karofsky return to the show? And do you think Brad's comment about Karofsky and Unique will happen in a future episode?

Glee airs Thursdays at 9pm on FOX.

brad falchuk is a fucking idiot, if you don't want to write more for a character then fine but don't go saying that a queer kid is ok when his last scene was him crying about not having a support system and some imagined future

aint that the truth.

Fucking "Glee" logic: Karofsky is fine now because he's out. Not that it will stop any bullying he's experiencing but since he's not Kurt, this doesn't really matter.
nicolaroberts 28th-Sep-2012 12:02 am (UTC)
it's so infuriating and it was the same shit when santana was outed
forgethissmile 28th-Sep-2012 12:26 am (UTC)
This whole fucking show is built on characters that they never flesh out properly, with story arcs that they drop for no reason while they fap mercilessly to every single one of Kurt's movements.

And this is why GLEE is not a positive show for LGBT* kids, because the creators and writers have no fucking clue, even if some are gay themselves, what they are really saying to kids with this show.

Karofsky was one of the only interesting characters tbh. Only one with depth.

Whatever I am kind of done with this show tbh. I just watch it on hulu on the weekend.
hoechlingurl 27th-Sep-2012 11:26 pm (UTC)
Glee ruined itself when it decided to take it upon itself to become PSA for America. Its a shame too because they have a really talented cast. I give this show one more season before FOX pulls the plug.
spider_orchid 27th-Sep-2012 11:29 pm (UTC)
I think its funny that they became so preachy when they're so incredibly racist, sexist, homophobic and just all around AWFUL.
hoechlingurl 27th-Sep-2012 11:32 pm (UTC)
Glee is only sensitive to white gay male issues. Insert Kurt and Karofsky. Its weird I actually liked Kurt in the front 13 before he began to piss me off with his excessive misery. Glee does not understand the meaning of the word moderation. Once they get one semi- good idea they beat it to death.
nekokonneko 27th-Sep-2012 11:30 pm (UTC)
i bet it will be cancelled before this season even finishes

ita.
6pennylane 27th-Sep-2012 11:30 pm (UTC)
agreed season 1 was awesome because of its dark humor, and then it became a parody of itself.
forgethissmile 28th-Sep-2012 12:30 am (UTC)
FOX is notorious for pulling shows when they're critically acclaimed, but keeping shit that is failing desperately.

As long as people are buying Glee shit off of iTunes, they'll keep churning out the episodes, so long as the budget for the episode is on par with their profit margin.
juel1979 29th-Sep-2012 12:39 am (UTC)
Considering I only ever saw it as a bad after school special gone bananas, I've never been seriously disappointed.
thethingiswhat 27th-Sep-2012 11:28 pm (UTC)
Why does this show insist on covering all my favorite 90s songs? They don't even do good covers anymore. Not looking forward to the fuckery that will be the No Doubt and Duncan Sheik covers.
juel1979 29th-Sep-2012 12:39 am (UTC)
I never understood how these kids could get excited about doing songs before they would have been born.
nekokonneko 27th-Sep-2012 11:35 pm (UTC)
"Don't Speak" by No Doubt

and an acoustic version of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream."

So the acoustic version of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun wasn't terrible enough?
hoechlingurl 27th-Sep-2012 11:41 pm (UTC)
They will massacre Don't Speak. I am curious about the acoustic Teenage Dream tbh.
guccipostagurl 27th-Sep-2012 11:54 pm (UTC)
They already did Teenage Dream, wtf....
forgethissmile 28th-Sep-2012 12:31 am (UTC)
The Warbler's Teenage Dream was great -- but then again, the Warblers in general were great, way better than New Directions.

It's really saying something that you start routing for the other school to win.
nekokonneko 28th-Sep-2012 12:47 am (UTC)
and i was rooting for the troubletones during sectionals. #newdirectionswho
norway 27th-Sep-2012 11:41 pm (UTC)
This mess has overstayed its welcome tbh
gaga 27th-Sep-2012 11:44 pm (UTC)
they're starting to rehash songs they've already done? seriously?

CANCEL IT ALREADY
nekokonneko 27th-Sep-2012 11:52 pm (UTC)
They re-did I Kissed A Girl last season
wheeler 28th-Sep-2012 03:08 pm (UTC)
They're reprising a song they've already done.
tankmachine 27th-Sep-2012 11:44 pm (UTC)
if this gets canceled at the end of the season it'll be my fault tbh bc I don't watch it live anymore

p&r and the office are more important obvi
melissa_ivory 28th-Sep-2012 08:43 pm (UTC)
Anything is more important than GLEE at this point.
ladyofthejungle 27th-Sep-2012 11:47 pm (UTC)
"I thought we really finished that story nicely. It was very clear: He's OK." Wow? Really Brad?

Also not excited about them massacring BB, Don't Speak, and the Scientist. And LOL at them trying to squeeze more money about of the Blarren/Klaine fans by rereleasing Teenage Dream.

saltireflower 27th-Sep-2012 11:47 pm (UTC)
You never know when you need someone to talk to Unique or something.

....okay then.
lucciolaa 27th-Sep-2012 11:47 pm (UTC)
Why does Rachel always look like someone taped her eyebrows up
guccipostagurl 27th-Sep-2012 11:53 pm (UTC)
Naya Rivera is my last hope for this show. I have such a crush on her it is unreal.
jinnycalderone 27th-Sep-2012 11:56 pm (UTC)
why is this show still on?!
