ABC is staying in business with Mandy Moore, nabbing a comedy project from scribe Rich Appel and 20th Century Fox TV to be toplined by the singer-thesp.
"Miss Most Likely" centers around a 28-year-old who runs away from home to the big city only to see her family follow her. ABC has given the project a script order with a big penalty.
Moore will exec produce the single-cam comedy along with Appel, Shawn Levy, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of 21 Laps/Adelstein Prods. Appel, a 20th TV vet whose credits include "King of the Hill" and "Family Guy," penned the script.
Moore starred in a pilot for ABC and 20th TV that came close to an order last spring. At the time ABC execs made it clear they would continue to search for a comedy vehicle for her. The Appel project generated interest from multiple networks when it made the rounds last week.
Moore and Appel are repped by WME.
