Dredd came out? I didn't even notice.

I worked and watched Dan vs., Lost Tapes and more Wings.
naveedchick 23rd-Sep-2012 08:00 pm (UTC)
I watched Dredd 3D and End of Watch last night and I really enjoyed both of them.
ectypes 23rd-Sep-2012 08:05 pm (UTC)
I loved Dredd and went in with 0 expectations. I was even pouting because my friend wouldn't see HATES (due to the 14% on rotten... lol)
wanderlost 23rd-Sep-2012 08:01 pm (UTC)
I just came back from seeing Dredd. It wasn't as awful as I expected it to be.

I'm squimish, so it was kind of gory for me, but other than that- if you like The Expendables type of movies, you'll enjoy it. (It's in 3D, so just go on cheap night, though.)
trixx_r4_kidz 23rd-Sep-2012 08:08 pm (UTC)
oooh gory how? Cabin in the Woods was pretty gory in the end and GoT/Kill Bill gory? or something worse entirely? I hate gore... 0_0

I really want to see I though since i keep hearing good things lol.
wanderlost 23rd-Sep-2012 11:49 pm (UTC)
It's 3D and part of the plot is that there's this drug that slows everything down. So someone will get shot and you'll see the bullet leave the gun, go through the guy's cheek, and see the bullet and the blood come out.

They don't shy away from showing bullets going into body parts. And lots of blood.

But it's fun. (I know how that sounds.)
honey_child 23rd-Sep-2012 08:02 pm (UTC)
I can't see Dredd until tomorrow as my equally as obsessed with Karl Urban friend couldn't get time free until then. Can't wait. I've been hearing good things.
turkish_popstar 23rd-Sep-2012 08:03 pm (UTC)
The Master SUCKED. It was fucking awful.
hershelwalker 23rd-Sep-2012 08:04 pm (UTC)
why?
turkish_popstar 23rd-Sep-2012 08:09 pm (UTC)
it was all over the place. my date and i thought that maybe we needed to know more about scientology to understand elements, but the storytelling was extremely weak. The performances are phenomenal though, it just doesn't fucking go anywhere.
ectypes 23rd-Sep-2012 08:05 pm (UTC)
it was very... fragmented. not at all on-par with TWBB tbh. i was disappointed.
enid_keaner 23rd-Sep-2012 08:09 pm (UTC)
NO DO NOT TELL ME THIS
naveedchick 23rd-Sep-2012 08:12 pm (UTC)
I saw it on friday. It was definitely well acted and crafted. However, it really drags, and I haven't been able to find a word yet that describes my thoughts on the story... it was definitely not accessible.
snoozeen 23rd-Sep-2012 08:17 pm (UTC)
The acting was great (jesus give me nightmares, Amy Adams!) and the movie was beautiful, but I couldn't get into it. I just felt very...distant from what was happening on screen.

winniechili 23rd-Sep-2012 08:22 pm (UTC)
Some hipster website (The Playlist) described it as "a raw portrait of the hunger and pain of finding meaning in one's life."

Yeah.......no.
actxappalledx 23rd-Sep-2012 08:25 pm (UTC)
I cannot hear this!
sparrowsrflying 23rd-Sep-2012 08:26 pm (UTC)
I was a bit disappointed. I thought all the actors were great but I couldn't get into it.
joaniemaloney 23rd-Sep-2012 10:22 pm (UTC)
I adored the performances and they kept me enraptured for the 2 hours. felt more like an hour, tbh. but I don't think I loved it as much as the critics did.

although to be fair I don't know much about scientology so maybe there were lots there that flew over my head.
conveythemelody 23rd-Sep-2012 08:04 pm (UTC)
I rented Wonderlust and made pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. The movie was horrible
robertsbox_xo Re: 23rd-Sep-2012 08:05 pm (UTC)
I MADE PUMPKIN CUPCAKES W/ CREAM CHEESE FROSTING TOO OMG

someone posted the recipe awhile ago and i saved it and made them :)
conveythemelody 23rd-Sep-2012 08:17 pm (UTC)
that's where I got it from! it was just pumpkin puree and cake mix and someone else posted a recipe for low cal frosting so i said FUCK IT LET'S MAKE THESE CUPCAKES.
ellie_andrews 23rd-Sep-2012 09:37 pm (UTC)
omg link?
ectypes Re: 23rd-Sep-2012 08:08 pm (UTC)
ita, it was just annoying... i usually hate anything with malin ackerman. she chooses the worst films to be in.
this_repetition Re: 23rd-Sep-2012 08:10 pm (UTC)
Well, at least you had the cupcakes.
twowaymirrrors Re: 23rd-Sep-2012 08:11 pm (UTC)
I made pumpkin cupcakes the other day! But I didn't frost them because I had nothing for it oop
hedgerowbustle Re: 23rd-Sep-2012 08:23 pm (UTC)
I'm still not sure how I feel about that movie. I cringe just thinking about that mirror scene with Paul Rudd.

The cupcakes sound delicious though!
_effinsweet_ Re: 23rd-Sep-2012 08:31 pm (UTC)
wanderlust was only good for the king Paul Rudd
loverelapse Re: 23rd-Sep-2012 11:18 pm (UTC)
omg i remember that link. how were the cupcakes?
bananasnrum Re: 24th-Sep-2012 05:42 am (UTC)
bad movie but I'M GON PUTS MAH DICKIN!
squirrels_oh_no 23rd-Sep-2012 08:04 pm (UTC)
How did Dredd flop? It was epic and Karl was wonderful.
trixx_r4_kidz 23rd-Sep-2012 08:09 pm (UTC)
I feel like no one even knew it was coming out. I didn't know it came out this month/week until a few ONTDers kept raving about it lol.
squirrels_oh_no 23rd-Sep-2012 08:19 pm (UTC)
It's a shame because it really is awesome and Karl really deserves to be a leading man instead of constant second fiddle.
twowaymirrrors 23rd-Sep-2012 08:13 pm (UTC)
They didn't promote it that much. I saw previews at the theaters, but they only started running on tv Wednesday or Thursday and I haven't seen any since Friday. I don't think many people knew it was even coming out.
snuffyqui45 23rd-Sep-2012 08:17 pm (UTC)
There was less than zero amount of promotion for that movie. I've seen maybe one ad and I (who actually wants to see it) didn't even know it was coming out this week.

I haven't even seen the actors on talk shows or anything
winniechili 23rd-Sep-2012 08:19 pm (UTC)
Cause no ne really cared?
frenchverbs 23rd-Sep-2012 09:32 pm (UTC)
Whoever was promoting the movie did a horrible job. I only saw one preview, and even then, I couldn't figure out what it was about. I ended up seeing it yesterday and liking it a lot. Other than Olivia Thirbly and Wood Harris, I didn't recognize anyone else in the movie, and it doesn't seem they did any press in the form of the talk show circuit. The reviews have been pretty good for the movie, too, so that's pretty sad.
simply_inn0cent 23rd-Sep-2012 09:36 pm (UTC)
seriously I loved it
brownxeyedxdork 23rd-Sep-2012 09:53 pm (UTC)
IFKR?
these_eyes_lie 23rd-Sep-2012 10:03 pm (UTC)
I work at a movie theater and we sold a less than 30 tickets for it the entire weekend. That's four shows a day--Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So sad.
robertsbox_xo 23rd-Sep-2012 08:04 pm (UTC)
i saw dredd last week and it was really good, sad it bombed

i'm glad end of watch did decent, i want to see that
d00ditsemily 23rd-Sep-2012 08:10 pm (UTC)
it's really good!
ectypes 23rd-Sep-2012 08:04 pm (UTC)
Saw the Master in 70mm

man that was a lot of boobage. is that a spoiler? w/e
hedgerowbustle 23rd-Sep-2012 08:24 pm (UTC)
Eh, does it have a lot of nudity? I'm seeing it with my mom, I don't want to feel awkward. lol
ectypes 23rd-Sep-2012 08:51 pm (UTC)
YES. omg yes. if you are sensitive about seeing that kind of stuff with your mom/dad, avoid this film.

lots and lots of full frontal female nudity, sex simulation, talking about sex, erotica read aloud. no dicks though (of course).

Edited at 2012-09-23 08:52 pm (UTC)
joaniemaloney 23rd-Sep-2012 10:23 pm (UTC)
so, so, SO, many boobies.
ty_slilreject 23rd-Sep-2012 08:05 pm (UTC)
My weekend was actually pretty decent. I went out on both Friday and Saturday and I went to a coffee/chocolate expo this morning. I'm still wired from all the caffeine.
suspiriorum 23rd-Sep-2012 08:05 pm (UTC)
I went to my local art house theater and saw Farewell, My Queen and I quite enjoyed it. They also just got The Master, which I hope to see soon.
joaniemaloney 23rd-Sep-2012 10:23 pm (UTC)
ooh, I've still be meaning to watch that one.
suspiriorum 23rd-Sep-2012 11:33 pm (UTC)
The film is all from the p.o.v. of Léa's character Sidonie, which provides both an intimate and outsider perspective on Marie Antoinette and her relationship with Gabrielle de Polignac. However, the main centerpiece of the film (which I enjoyed) was the focus on Sidonie's love for Marie Antoinette, and how that love motivates her to do everything in her power for her queen.

I very much recommend it.
flowerssleeping 23rd-Sep-2012 08:05 pm (UTC)
my aunt came in from out of town so i went out to lunch w/ her and my mom and then bought the rescuers/rescuers down under combo dvd. exciting weekend.
dreamofcoffee 23rd-Sep-2012 08:06 pm (UTC)
Get it, Jake. Can't wait to see End of Watch.
d00ditsemily 23rd-Sep-2012 08:10 pm (UTC)
it's so good go see it ASAP Jake slayed as usual
ectypes 23rd-Sep-2012 08:06 pm (UTC)
Dredd was pretty good btw. Even in 3D. If you have a chance, go see it. Even if you have no idea what it's about.
brownxeyedxdork 23rd-Sep-2012 09:54 pm (UTC)
Yas. The last death scene in the film was fucking amazing in 3D.
sastra_fuss 23rd-Sep-2012 08:07 pm (UTC)
i played sims 3 supernatural all weekend. i have no interest in dredd. i was planning on seeing the master today but i heard mixed things and idk, seems like something i would watch on dvd. i thought the perks of being a wallflower was out here this weekend but no, it's next weekend in one high ass theater. i'll probably still go just to get out of the house.
loverelapse 23rd-Sep-2012 11:21 pm (UTC)
how is supernatural? i have it, but i haven't really played it yet.
sastra_fuss 24th-Sep-2012 12:42 am (UTC)
i've only scratched the surface on stuff you can do but it's way better than showtime. the zombies are kind of annoying (battling an outbreak of zombie townies right now) but there is an option to turn them off as well as the celebrity system (if you have that expansion pack).
