Just found out that a friend of mine used to work with her.
My friend (with a bike) says that Silverman is exceedingly and consistently a sweetheart & Silverman apparently is not cool with it when other people are mistreated/spoken rudely to by execs in front of her.
So, even though I don't think she's funny, I am now a fan.
yeah, that's how she's always came off to me in her interviews/her book. i understand if people don't like her humor, even though i do, but i love her mainly for how sincere and outspoken she is outside of her act.
If Barry doesn't win, then I think economically we will survive but socially and internationally we will become a colossal disaster. Romney's terrible international status and foot snackin' will ignite so many foreign countries to become our enemies.
One of my volunteers (I'm a team leader for Obama) told me the other day that her cousin got a letter the other day saying she was about to be purged from the voter roster. This lady is 76, black, has voted Democratic in every election since she could vote, and is an upstanding member in the community in every way.
Oh, and apparently she's dead.
A Republican-controlled "voter fraud prevention" non-profit marked her as a potential fraud because she's dead, dammit! Strike her from the rolls!
Um, no. My grandfather who was on the rolls for six months after he died? Yeah, he's dead, but a very healthy woman? No.
And the leader of this non-profit claims his organization is non-partisan, but has spoken about how voter ID is going to help Republicans win 2012 and how voter fraud helped Obama.
They were talking about this on Rachel Maddow! All this "oh noez voter fraud MUST HAZ ID" business is so funny to me because the voter suppression going on with that nonprofit (which btw is actually registered with the city not as a nonprofit but as a business) is voter fraud.
My stepdad, who died in 2010, keeps getting called for Jury Duty. They said that we're lying and that he isn't actually dead, despite us bringing in a death certificate, because he's voted since his "alleged death".
My Mom wanted to join the Obama campaign staff but she's too fragile right now. Her heart failure and gout is preventing her from becoming politically active these days.
she still has pictures of herself and my dad marching in Harlem and Christopher Street for Civil Rights during the 60's and 70's.
He's got the #1 podcast in the country, holds the Guinness Book of World Records for the most downloaded podcast ever, consistently sells out huge (1000+) theaters doing stand up all over the US, wrote, produced, directed and starred in 'The Hammer' which was rated in the top 25% on Rotten Tomatoes.
He's the author of two NYT best sellers and the coauthor, with Dr Drew, of a teen self help book. He also wrote an illustrated book about the similarities between the rich and poor.
He was the co-host of Loveline for 20 years with Dr Drew. For three years he hosted a nationally syndicated radio talk show on his own. He owns a successful production company called Jackhole and an restaurant in LA. He's had or been a part of (writing, acting, producing, directing) nine successful tv shows and has sold but not produced several others.
He came from a very poor, broken home with absent parents, was a ditch digger, carpet cleaner, boxing instructor and construction worker before he pulled himself up by his bootstraps and made himself a millionaire. He now employs over 35 people with his podcast alone.
Carolla and Pinsky received a Sexual Health In Entertainment (SHINE) Award from the The Media Project in 2000 for "incorporating accurate and honest portrayals of sexuality" in the talk show category for Loveline. He also hosts fundraisers and has volunteered his talents for charities from his kid's school to the Feast of San Gennaro.
He's been married for 12 years and has twins 6 year olds.
One might not agree with every opinion he has, but there's not doubt about his talent and brilliance.

Ugh, don't even get me started how how it was seen as ridiculous that people were concerned about the machines, but now this hysteria is perfectly reasonable?
That gun permit allowance is RIDICULOUS and obvious. My republican friend (who thinks I'm voting for Obama because he's the lesser of two evils) couldn't argue about how transparent that move is.
yes, and for those that for one reason or another can't drive maybe they can own a gun huh? i still have not made up my mind on who to vote but the more i get educate on Mitt the less I want to vote for him.
Just like the last election, I think I'm more concerned about the VP than the actual Pres. nominee. Mitt is a blip on the radar tbh, but he's still dangerous because he will do and say whatever it takes to win. People joke about politicians not having any real convictions, but this guy doesn't have any lol unless it's about making and preserving money.
I don't own firearms, so I'm ignorant. Does a gun permit have a photo on it? I always thought it was like a short form birth certificate or a fishing license.
I get the point of this video and support what she is trying to say, but in order to prove her point and make it seem like there are very few options for those without a license, she's omitting that at most places where you can get a license, you can also get a non-driver photo identification card. Basically takes the same amount of time as it does to replace a lost license.
Not trying to say there aren't voter suppression shenanigans going on out there, but it might be better to help people learn what they CAN do immediately to ensure they can vote instead of just trying to get attention to this cause and get people riled up.
But doesn't that cost money? I'd think the biggest issue is that these certain demographics are more likely to be unable to afford the identification card, or even if it is free they're unable to get to the DMV to procure one. If these states want you to have a photo ID for voting they should easily provide one free of charge to ensure that EVERYONE who is eligible to vote is able to.
For some poor people, it's the expense and the time it takes to get one, tbh. Many people may not have jobs that will be cool about them taking hours out of their day to go down to the DMV (which is notoriously slower than molassas in February) to get one. And the expense is going to be a concern for some poor people.
If these IDs were given for free, I'd have somewhat more patience. But Republicans know damn well what they're doing with these laws and it's disenfranchising the poor and minorities who may not vote Republican.
The Washington Post did a nice article on a PA woman who had to get one of the "free" ID cards so she could vote. She was a janitor at a hospital or something like that and had to mess around with her schedule to get to the DMV (which has wonky hours) to get the ID. Then the process ended up taking about 6 hours.
Penndot (who issues the IDS) estimates that they will only make about 10,000 of them before the election in November. Currently there are close to 500,000 people that would essentially need them to vote.
And there are reports that the "free" ids actually end up costing about $12.
I quite like that this video could get people riled up because not very many people are.
Also, older people don't just get up and go to the DMV to get an ID. Most don't have licenses of course, don't have people who can or are willing to take them to the DMV to get one, and they aren't healthy enough to (possibly) stand in line for hours. Had some measures been taken to make it easier for the elderly and disabled to abide by the new "fraud" laws, then it wouldn't be so side-eye worthy.
I'm so glad that the lawmakers who voted for this law recognized that people could be disenfranchised so they set aside money for PSAs on how to get acceptable ID's! And hired workers to assist the tens of thousands of people who would now be going to government offices to get them!
Actually getting new IDs to all these people is a burden on the govt and on the people themselves, and so I'm glad they took that into account! Otherwise it would be a transparent effort to fuck people over for being poor/elderly/disabled! Wow, that would be so shitty.
Some people don't have $25 to spend on a non-voter ID that they'll only use a few times. And some people don't have the means of transportation to get to a courthouse in order to apply for one of those licenses. And some people don't have jobs that are forgiving of needing to take a few hours off to go stand in line at said courthouse in order to get a non-drivers license.
A social security card or birth certificate should be more than sufficient to vote, since that's what it takes to get one of those non-drivers ID's in a lot of states in the first place.
Not to mention there is actually no credible evidence that there's a big problem with voter fraud in the first place.
The intent behind these laws is clear, to keep marginalized groups, aka groups more likely to vote for a Democrat, from voting. We've even had Republicans admit this out loud.
Hey OP bb ilu and I may need to hold your hand in this post

I love her (and her comedy), so this is great to hear.

i'm not perfect or anything but i'm head of xxx at work and when people mistreat my staff i'm like a fierce mama bear
not that i'm rude about it but i will not tolerate disrespectful behavior or obnoxious bullying
i've actualy said the words " it is not ok to treat people like that and i expect an apology to xyz "
/csb
and that's pretty awesome of Sarah!
I still don't appreciate her brand of comedy but it's great to hear about genuine nice celebrities because they are so rare.

WHAT VOTER FRAUD?!
She needs to march down to that office and be like "WHAT NOW BITCHES. BACK FROM THE GRAVE."
she still has pictures of herself and my dad marching in Harlem and Christopher Street for Civil Rights during the 60's and 70's.
I love Sarah Silverman but this shit is utter nonsense.

Kinda wanna read more about the US voter fraud prevention guidelines now just to get the overall context
They are even saying people are dead lmfao
And the only voter fraud I know has to do with die bold machines ....
I'm glad that certain states are fighting these laws though
i still have not made up my mind on who to vote but the more i get educate on Mitt the less I want to vote for him.
take this quiz bb :) it will help with the decision.
a gun will virtually take me anywhere

or if you cant go to the DMV because they are only open on certain days during work hours
