i loved his speech and would have listened to it forever. but i also thought it was "too long" because i was exhausted and wanted to go to sleep because i have to get up stupidly early for school.
that's what my repub dad complained about, too...i just lol'ed cause if the harshest criticism he can think of is "he talked too long" then i say Great Job Dems ;)
idk why people say this, bill was a pretty shitty president imo
don't ask don't tell, defense of marriage act, welfare reform, NAFTA etc
his biggest achievement was the economy and he owed a big chunk of that to the tech bubble and the rise of the internet. and anyway the good economy was a pretty temporary thing considering how fast bush fucked things up, but all his shitty legislation carried on for 10+ years until obama repealed it
I feel like people see those policies as him sort of being in a bind/doing the best he could to not alienate the other half.
Like Don't Ask Don't Tell was completely reprehensible, but people see it as perhaps the only way they'd allow gay and lesbians to serve. A lot of people wanted it so that absolutely no gays or lesbians could serve ever, but Don't Ask Don't Tell was a way to allow them to serve (though they still couldn't actually, you know, be themselves)
* Not defending this policy at all and I think it was shit and I'm glad it's done.
People keep forgetting (like yourself) that Don't Ask Don't Tell was a big step forward to Gays in the military during that time. It also was saving lives of soldiers who were being killed.
It was a stepping stone that would allow gays to serve openly eventually in the military. As well as opening the public's mind to accepting gays.
If you weren't an adult during 90's then you should take a big fucking seat.
some people complained that is was too long .... I was like STFU
Did Republicans want him to stop after the first 10 KO punches?
