Iron Man 3 Continues to Make Questionable Decisions…Quelle Surprise

Not too long after production commenced in Wilmington, North Carolina, the first batch of Iron Man 3 set photos revealed that the famous Iron Patriot armor would feature in the Shane Black-directed installment. Although, recent reports revealed that Marvel were straying from its source material, having a returning ally of Tony Stark, James Rhodes, don the Iron Patriot armor rather than the Spider-Man foe Norman Osborn. And offering somewhat of a new look at the Iron Patriot armor, check it out via new promotional artwork!

Hit the jump to check it out.

eh

i still havent seen iron man 2. or captain america. i think i'm losing interest in this franchise tbh. call me when the avengers 2 comes out.
westamp 21st-Sep-2012 06:49 pm (UTC)
Yes IM 2 had it's moments. I didn't care for some of the story but I didn't fall asleep either.

I will always love RDJ as Iron Man!
rainshowers 20th-Sep-2012 06:30 pm (UTC)
Iron Man 2 was not that awful. It had its moments. Captain America I could just NOT get into at all. I fell asleep watching it, twice.
chibik3r0 20th-Sep-2012 07:58 pm (UTC)
I think IM2 was the weakest of the pre-Avengers films. I often feel in the minority, but CA was probably my 2nd favorite (after the original IM)
everyforever 20th-Sep-2012 08:46 pm (UTC)
honestly the avengers pretty much takes care of any backstory you would possibly need for anyone

The first half of Captain America is great and then it sort of hits a wall for me and I lose interest :/
andromakhe001 21st-Sep-2012 12:27 am (UTC)
I think Captain America is a good film and worth seeing. I have no idea why some people think it's boring, but I liked it, liked watching the journey Steve went on and liked the characters he had to interact with. The only weakness was the villain really in that he wasn't that well developed. Or maybe it's more that, unlike IM and Thor, the villain wasn't really a personal villain. Tony had a long standing personal relationship with Obadiah and of course Thor issues were first his own attitude which got him punished and then his brother. Whereas sure Red Skull really had no personal relationship to Steve, he just hated what he signified and what he stood for - hated that the serum worked properly on him, hated that he fought for the freedoms that Red Skull wanted to end, etc. And it was the same on Steve's side, sure he knew that Red Skull was behind Erskine's murder and all the death and destruction he caused but it's not like he was someone he ever actually KNEW. So I think that could be a "weakness" in the film.

However they actually spend a good amount of time on Steve's interactions with Bucky or with the military or with Peggy(who is awesome) and I found that stuff to be interesting and entertaining and thought Steve was pretty adorable with nice combination of confidence and awkwardness and humility as well as sort of dry, often self-depracating sense of humor. It's not in your face snark like say Tony, but he has his moments.

Mte. I'm not gonna hate on the movie yet because of some stupid colors. If it sucks its gonna suck despite it.

It was cheesy, but not so bad. The downside for me was too much Natalie Portman though.

Torn bc more Rhodey (who I love) is awesome but in my experience, straying from the source material can totally suck for most movies.

littlepunkryo 20th-Sep-2012 05:33 pm (UTC)
TBH I'm still more annoyed that the Iron Man suit's color change. People keep saying it looked awesome in the comic con footage but I'm nhf that nasty cream color and there's way too much of it. Make the chest all red again and then we can talk.
xpirate_queenx 20th-Sep-2012 07:37 pm (UTC)
I still don't quite get why the massive color change. Granted, he does get a new suit in every movie (and that's fine) and there have always been subtle tweaks to every new upgrade, but it was always a good balance of color.

Not to mention the fact that the suit this time around will be the friggin' Extremis armor; that's all the change you need, right there. Such a drastic palette swap seems...I don't know, unnecessary.

That being said, still pictures alone are not enough to cause a final verdict; I'm going to wait until the movie comes out before declaring the usual RUINED FOREVURRRR!!!111!!ONE

Good Tony, you look pretty cool.
moonsenorita 20th-Sep-2012 05:34 pm (UTC)
We all don't need to be Tony Stark levels of flashy.

Current head cannon is they both got drunk and Drunk Tony painted the suit. Rhodes was suitably upset but there were bad guys to be fought and no other not flashy armor do he put it on and trades sarcastic quips with Tony the entire time.
