Khloe Kardashian Finalizing ‘X Factor’ Co-Hosting Gig, Mario Lopez Joining Her?
It looks like E! reality star Khloe Kardashian’s career may be catapulted to the next level and reportedly Extra host Mario Lopez could join her – with a little help from Simon Cowell.
Celebuzz has learned exclusively that the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star is in the final stages of negotiations before signing on the dotted line to become newest host of The X Factor.
“Khloe has been offered the role,” said our source. “But the deal is still being finalized.”
What has Simon said about Khloe?
According to our source, NBCUniversal (the parent company that owns E! Network) and FOX are trying to figure out contractual issues. The hosting gig carries with it a large time and promotion commitment.
“Simon wants her to have it,” said the source. “Now they’re trying to finalize the deal.”
Cowell has confirmed that Kardashian was a serious contender for the gig. The executive producer told Ellen DeGeneres on her show last week, “It could be a Kardashian. I think that would work.”
The snarky judge followed up by saying, “We have to find people who have a great chemistry, but Khloe is definitely up there in running.”
Who is probably joining the E! star? Extra host Mario Lopez has reportedly been offered the gig alongside Kardashian, according to Perez Hilton.
The choice comes as a bit of a surprise as Cowell has said he wants someone with no hosting experience. Also despite Cowell saying he wants two people for the job, TMZ’s sources say that if Kardashian’s deal falls through that they’re willing to go with a single host in Lopez. Possibly, things change when ratings are at stake.
The announcement of the co-hosts, both with strong followings, could help X Factor with its sagging ratings. With The Voice hitting the higher ratings note (10.7 million people) over The X Factor (7.5 million people) last Wednesday night, the popular reality star may bring viewers back to FOX.
“Simon is humiliated and furious that he was blind-sided by The Voice taking the audience,” said the source.
“He’s told network executives to give Khloe whatever she wants.”
It had been reported that Fashion Police star Kelly Osbourne and Glee’s Kevin McHale were in the running for the high-profile gig – which Cowell denied, telling Celebuzz a simple, “no.”
After its debut U.S. season, British-born host Steve Jones was fired along with judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, who were replaced by singers Demi Lovato and Britney Spears.
A FOX reps tells Celebuzz the network has no comment.
