Noooo, is Mrs Hughes going to be sick or something? Leave her alone dammit.

Lady Edith deserves to be happy. Strallan isn't so bad.
mmmdraco 19th-Sep-2012 05:42 pm (UTC)
Pregnant with Carson's baby? XD No, I doubt it, but I do hope that nothing is too wrong. Because, hell, I don't like Mrs. Patmore (I am probably misspelling that, but whatever) and I still felt super-bad for her with her eye problem.

This show... tugging all of my heart strings just to give me all the feels!
tinydevastation 19th-Sep-2012 05:52 pm (UTC)
Imagine if she was?! Ngl, they make a good pairing.
fauxkaren 19th-Sep-2012 05:38 pm (UTC)
It's the end of the line for Downton's finances and Mary takes matters into her own hands, but the personal price could be high.

I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THIS COULD MEEEEEEEEEAN.
allons_y42 19th-Sep-2012 05:49 pm (UTC)
Maybe she's selling the story of Mr Pamouk? Or letting Sir Richard print it if she get s a cut of the profits? "High personal price" makes me think of the skeletons in her closet.
frenchoral 19th-Sep-2012 05:58 pm (UTC)
I'm thinking she'll go behind Matthew's back and accept his inheritance or do something along those lines.
fauxkaren 19th-Sep-2012 06:06 pm (UTC)
Yeah, but even if she accepts the inheritance, I doubt she could use it all without him figuring it out. So even if she accepts it, he could still give the money to some charity in Lavinia's honor or something. So idk.

But I guess Matthew could still be super angry with her.
dothefrug 19th-Sep-2012 05:39 pm (UTC)
Is the breakthrough to relieve Bates of his life so that Anna can get hers back?

mingemonster 19th-Sep-2012 06:14 pm (UTC)
I will forgive everything if this happens and Bates really did kill his wife
missedith17 21st-Sep-2012 12:29 am (UTC)
that would be beautiful.
rainbow_fish 19th-Sep-2012 05:40 pm (UTC)
So we really are going to marry Edith off to Sir Anthony then?

Eaux.

I feel so bad for Anna. Wasting her life away on this man.

I hope that this means that Mary will somehow get the money from Lavinia's father and that Matthew will be pressed, but then he'll get over it bc Mary is flawless and he's being a dweeb.

la_petite_singe 19th-Sep-2012 05:40 pm (UTC)
Wait, so Edith & Sir Anthony legit get together?! Finally! I laughed so hard at Cora saying "never mind Edith" to Mary in the premiere because, like...there's the whole show in a nutshell.

WHEN IS THOMAS GONNA GET LAID
spankmypirate 19th-Sep-2012 05:42 pm (UTC)
Forever bitter that Edith won't be a single flapper/budding writer. This Sir Anthony storyline just feels like she's settling. DNW. She could have gone from being the least promising sister to outshining the other two. eff youuu Fellowess

#HangBates and based on those summaries, #SaveMrsHughes omg :'(

It's the end of the line for Downton's finances and Mary takes matters into her own hands, but the personal price could be high.

Am I sensing yet another Indecent Proposal plot? Say it isn't so.

dothefrug 19th-Sep-2012 05:46 pm (UTC)
Maybe he'll die soon (since he's 324023947093824 years old) and she'll inherit all his money and move to London.

Plus, as derpy as he is, he at least seems like a nice, un-skeevy man.
fauxkaren 19th-Sep-2012 05:46 pm (UTC)
Idk. Edith has always seemed to genuinely enjoy Sir Anthony's company. Like lbr. Edith is kind of a dork. She really does like to talk about farming and that kind of stuff. I think she and Sir Anthony are well suited for each other. I think it would have been way OOC for her to become a flapper.
spankmypirate 19th-Sep-2012 05:51 pm (UTC)
effffffffffffff LJ ate my comment

It's just that while I was rewatching the series, I noticed that Edith was complimented twice on something ~witty that she said. Once it was by Sir Anthony himself in fact, during S1. The other time was that farmer dude. I thought it was ~foreshadowing~

If not a flapper I would have been at least content with her experimenting with writing instead.

Sir Anthony is nice enough I guess. It's a shame Evelyn Napier was a dick to her because I could've easily gotten behind that ship instead.
xcollsangelx 19th-Sep-2012 05:43 pm (UTC)
Happy for Edith!

hateistoodark 19th-Sep-2012 05:45 pm (UTC)
Oh so Edith marries Sir Anthony. Good.
I want to know what Mary does.

fauxkaren 19th-Sep-2012 05:47 pm (UTC)
A+ icon. Mary looked so flawless in that hat.
hateistoodark 19th-Sep-2012 05:52 pm (UTC)
Ty blue is her color imo
chersolly 19th-Sep-2012 05:46 pm (UTC)
Edith doesn't deserve happiness. She threw her sister under the bus. Fuck her. Hope your old man dies before you ever become a bride.
hateistoodark 19th-Sep-2012 05:54 pm (UTC)
I wouldn't put it past Fellowes to kill off Sir Anthony after he marries Edith
le_postergirl 19th-Sep-2012 06:00 pm (UTC)
omg he totally would. i just get the feeling sometimes that he really hates edith and so he just makes her character unfortunate at every turn.
mingemonster 19th-Sep-2012 06:19 pm (UTC)
lol I feel like that's where it's going. It would make sense, since they're apparently emphasizing how ancient and decrepit he is, even though ser Jorah was the same age and no one cared
fauxkaren 19th-Sep-2012 05:47 pm (UTC)
MAYBE MARY IS GOING TO OFFER TO SELL HER STORY TO SOME PAPERS TO GET MONEY?

IDKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

I JUST REALLY WANT TO KNOW WHAT SHE'S GOING TO DOOOOOO
allons_y42 19th-Sep-2012 05:53 pm (UTC)
That sounds about right to me. Or she contemplates doing just that and gets bailed out at the last second by Matthew tying Swire's money to the estate in the 11th hour
rainbow_fish 19th-Sep-2012 06:02 pm (UTC)
I think it's more likely that she'll bully someone into giving her the check for Matthew's inheritance from Lavinia's father.

And then Matthew will be hella pissed, and her family will ~judge her~ for being pushy or w/e.
fauxkaren 19th-Sep-2012 06:08 pm (UTC)
Possibly, but idk. Like even if she does get the check for the inheritance, she can't really spend it all in one go to save Downton (and she probably couldn't do it without Matthew's knowledge). So even if she does get the money, Matthew could still donate it to a charity in Lavinia's honor or something.

But he could still be very angry with Mary so that could still be a personal consequence. IDK IDK
just_smiling 19th-Sep-2012 05:56 pm (UTC)
Edith's big day finally arrives.

So, when should we start the count down on Sir Anthony dying, leaving Edith heartbroken and alone?
hateistoodark 19th-Sep-2012 05:58 pm (UTC)
That would be so shitty imo
I like Sybil but i'd prefer her becoming a widow. It would actually give her a storyline.
fauxkaren 19th-Sep-2012 06:01 pm (UTC)
Sybil has become a Branson appendage. Remember how she used to have political ideals of her own? Now she's just there to nod along to Branson and his impassioned speeches about Ireland. #FREESYBIL
ichthyosaur 19th-Sep-2012 06:10 pm (UTC)
I like Sybil too, and Branson, but if he died it would still make her storyline about him. I'd like to know more about her work in Dublin.
just_smiling 19th-Sep-2012 06:13 pm (UTC)
Edith and Sybil both could benefit from better writing/character development, Thomas.
chimbleysweep 19th-Sep-2012 10:28 pm (UTC)
Becoming a widowed young mother/nurse (well, the nurse thing would be on hold for a while) living in poverty in a war-torn country would be a really depressing storyline.
hurtmybones 19th-Sep-2012 05:57 pm (UTC)
rip Mrs Hughes tbh :(

It's the end of the line for Downton's finances and Mary takes matters into her own hands, but the personal price could be high.

Why can't it be the idiot that got them into this mess aka her useless father? and high personal price = plz not her marriage
fauxkaren 19th-Sep-2012 05:59 pm (UTC)
Because Flopbert gets away with everything and it's the women around him who have to suffer.

high personal price = plz not her marriage

DON'T EVEN SAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT. D:

I mean, I do think that Mary and Matthew are going to argue over this kind of stuff. BUT IT WILL ALL BE OK IN THE ENDDDD.
hurtmybones 19th-Sep-2012 06:11 pm (UTC)
A heart attack for Robert plz. It has already been ~foreshadowed in the last episode, it would totally make sense!!!

IDK IDK I can totally see it happening and DNW. A lot of showrunners seem to think that couples that get together can't be happy and functional, nope, there has to be major drama :(
winegums 19th-Sep-2012 06:33 pm (UTC)
also if Flopbert died rn the death duties would mean Downton would end up being sold :(

I say Flopbert should do the smart thing and transfer all his shit to Matthew before kicking the bucket, I'll even take his whining and midlife crisis over the family having to move out of Downton (but why does Mary have to be the one who ends up heartbroken as a result of his flop decisions, GAH)

Literally the only thing I like him for is not judging Mary when she finally told him about Pamuk.
hateistoodark 19th-Sep-2012 06:01 pm (UTC)
I wouldn't put it past Fellowes to use Mrs Hughes as a fake out and kill Carson instead tbh
Prayer circle for both of them
le_postergirl 19th-Sep-2012 05:58 pm (UTC)
i wanna see more of Maggie and Shirley throwing shade at one another. their scenes are flaw free.
frenchoral 19th-Sep-2012 06:02 pm (UTC)
yep, that was the best part!!
winegums 19th-Sep-2012 06:39 pm (UTC)
YESSSSSSSSSSSS

Here for Granny vs Grandmama

(and maybe grandmama will finally teach Mary how to wear lipstick? One can only hope)
zimraphel 19th-Sep-2012 05:59 pm (UTC)
Is anybody else annoyed with the lazy writing for Edith? Her snarky comment to Mary really threw it over the top for me. At the end of the day they're still sisters, I can't imagine her being so bitter that she can't even be happy for her sister on her wedding day. I think her character has so much potential, I don't understand why they insist on making her so unlikable.
rainbow_fish 19th-Sep-2012 06:04 pm (UTC)
Idk, Edith sought out to actually ruin Mary when she wrote to the Turkish embassy. Like, not even just start gossip, she actually wanted to destroy Mary.

So yeah, I can totes see her being so bitter.

Sometimes I feel really bad for Edith, but a lot of time, to quote Mrs. Hughes, I feel like she is "the author of her own misfortune"
just_smiling 19th-Sep-2012 06:12 pm (UTC)
I feel like she is "the author of her own misfortune"

LOL. But that's not Edith fault, it's Fellows ;)
ichthyosaur 19th-Sep-2012 06:02 pm (UTC)
I love Edith's precious Edwardian nerd, let them marry and go on roadtrips and geek out over concerts together.
