Gaga’s ongoing insistence on wearing fur supposedly has generated various threats against the pop phenomenon from a number of truly aggressive animal activists. “I’m hearing they are going to try and personally attack Gaga — spraying her with paint or even throwing feces at her,” said a source close to the activists.
A Gaga insider adds, “She just loves sticking it to those PETA people.”
Far more serious is the growing fury from Islamic organizations who are outraged by Lady Gaga wearing a burqa to designer Philip Treacy’s show during London Fashion Week. The anger is targeted not at the burqa but at the clutch she carried, with the C-word clearly emblazoned on it.
“That comes across as a clear insult to Muslims and Islam,” said a Chicago-based representative of several Muslim groups, who asked not to be identified. I’m hearing that the uproar is leading to a big increase in Lady Gaga’s security detail.
All this is a bit confusing, given Gaga’s long advocacy of compassion for all religions. Like many others, she has been extremely upset by the release of the horrible 14-minute trailer for that anti-Muslim film that may have contributed to the murder of U.S. ambassador Chris Stevens and his three colleagues in Benghazi, Libya, last week.
