Blake Lively vs. Scarlett Johansson: Engagement Ring Showdown

Photobucket

It's the battle of the bling.

We got our first glimpse of Blake Lively's engagement ring yesterday, and Ryan Reynolds did a mighty fine job—but then again, he's done this before (hey, it's true!).

So how did his new wife's diamond compare to ex-wife Scarlett Johansson's rock? Designer Chris Capri of Capri Jewelry Inc. talks to E! News and breaks down the deets on these different jewels.

"It seems to me the ring is made of rose gold with the little diamonds on the sides of the ring being set micro-pavé style," Capri tells us of Lively's ring. "She has three rows of diamonds set on the ring. The center diamond is around 10 carats in what seems to be a light fancy pink oval-shape diamond. So the combined total carat weight between the small diamonds on the ring and the main diamond should be around 11 to 12 carats."

The jeweler also guesstimates how much moolah Reynolds put down for the ring. "I think he paid around $2 million, maybe closer to $3 million because of the color and size. It's definitely not a common diamond within the industry due to it's size, shape and especially it's color."

As for Scarlett's ring, it seems like Ryan chose to go the more traditional route.

"Her ring is a lot more common due to the color, shape and size," Capri tells E! News. "It looks to be three carats, round brilliant-cut shape, and it's set in yellow gold. Again, due to not knowing the clarity of the diamond, I can only guesstimate the value of the diamond being between $100,000 to $300,000 depending what the clarity is because it's definitely white in color."

Which sparkler catches your eye?

I don't really like either but if I had to choose I'd pick Scarlett's. I swear, I hardly ever like celebs' engagement rings.
beatlesluv 19th-Sep-2012 05:24 am (UTC)
I'm the opposite; I really like the classic/old style shape of Blake's but my ring doesn't have to be as large as that lol.
agatharuncible 19th-Sep-2012 07:56 am (UTC)
ia. neither is really my thing but Scarlett's looks neater.
akasha6915 19th-Sep-2012 09:26 am (UTC)
I prefer hers too. It's not as large or as tacky looking as Blake's.
a_new_haven 19th-Sep-2012 05:47 pm (UTC)
I don't like any huge diamond rings. When it started looking like my now-husband was going to propose, I started hinting that I liked smaller diamond diamonds. Mine is a .25 carat, and I like it fine. I think 1 carat is the limit before it starts looking just dumb.
obstacle_8 19th-Sep-2012 03:42 am (UTC)
Blake's is gorg but how could you date anyone else after being married to Scarlett.

dancedallnight 19th-Sep-2012 03:43 am (UTC)
this is completely unnecessary.

but since I hate gold wedding/engagement rings, Blake gets my vote by default.
mydogfred 19th-Sep-2012 03:53 am (UTC)
ia i hate the gold so much
diosabellissima 19th-Sep-2012 04:42 am (UTC)
I've been feeling the fuck out of rose gold lately. I don't know what it is. Wait, yes I do-- I saw this HRIC over here on Pinterest and now I'm brainwashed.

dancedallnight 19th-Sep-2012 04:44 am (UTC)
oh wow that's one actually gorgeous!!
juteux 19th-Sep-2012 05:07 am (UTC)
i looove rose gold. i'm going to ask for a michael kors watch for christmas, i don't know whether to go with gold or rose gold. first world problems.
aphrodite5239 19th-Sep-2012 06:44 am (UTC)
this is lovely <3
agatharuncible 19th-Sep-2012 08:00 am (UTC)
Rose gold is gorgeous. I love that ring too but something feels off about it. probably the fact that it has more stones than I'd feel comfortable wearing before the age of 30 or 40
_erin_go_bragh 19th-Sep-2012 08:45 am (UTC)
Love the shape of the diamond, the band, etc. Looks classic. I just would hate it if the diamons around would cut into my fingers.

I hate yellow gold too. White gold is where it's at for me, although rose gold is interesting.

my cousin has this really beautiful silver ring with a big opal in the centre as her "formal" wedding ring. it's so pretty.

mte, this si completely unnecesary. i bet both of them were/are pretty happy with their respective rings so who cares?
nationalboner 19th-Sep-2012 03:43 am (UTC)
Those are some ugly-ass rings.

LMAO! MTE
josiefier 19th-Sep-2012 03:43 am (UTC)
Well of course the first wife is going to (generally) have the smaller ring. Not a fan of Blake's either way though.
plugmebaby 19th-Sep-2012 05:52 am (UTC)
why is that?
jazzypom Normally, due to the rung of the financial ladder you're on19th-Sep-2012 06:52 am (UTC)
With the first wife, you're normally not making as much money as you would with the second wife (I think when Reynolds got with Scar Jo, she was actually a much bigger name than him, and commanded more money). With Lively, Ryan has more money under his belt (if not the prestigious projects), so he has the means of getting a bigger ring.

brit78 19th-Sep-2012 03:43 am (UTC)
I'm not a fan of either of them but this is such a downgrade.
beating_heartss 19th-Sep-2012 03:43 am (UTC)
well, this is rude.

lol I shouldn't be surprised but I kind of am, I didn't think people would go so far
sowhat_whocares 19th-Sep-2012 03:52 am (UTC)
why is everyone so offended by this? it honestly boggles my mind - every celeb that only marries other celebs get their relationships compared. basic blake and basic ryan are not special snowflakes in the celebosphere.
beating_heartss 19th-Sep-2012 03:52 am (UTC)
because it IS rude. It doesn't have to do with people being "special snowflakes"? You're not making sense.
bearlovesyou123 19th-Sep-2012 03:44 am (UTC)
I can't decide if Blake's ring is super stunning or utterly horrendous. Why is this?
homicidalslayer 19th-Sep-2012 05:57 am (UTC)
Because none of those elements should work, yet somehow together they do.
cl0vergirl 19th-Sep-2012 03:44 am (UTC)
if i had to choose i would take scarlett's. i dont like big gaudy rings celebs/celeb wives tend to haul around
makeyoulisten 19th-Sep-2012 03:44 am (UTC)
h'okay there's no need
geekchicrichie 19th-Sep-2012 03:44 am (UTC)
I like the band on Blake's and the diamond on Scarlett's.
The gold on Scarlett's is gross and the diamond on Blake's is too big.

Yep. Blake might be comfortable wearing that around, but I catch public transport in fairly dodgy areas all the time and would be scared shitless wearing a massive diamond.

I hate wearing jewelry. My mother always wanted me to wear some, but I couldn't get into it.
snuffyqui45 19th-Sep-2012 03:46 am (UTC)
Me too tbh.

I've gotten into bracelets and bigger earrings (mainly b/c I shaved all my hair off) but necklaces and rings is just not for me at all.
geekchicrichie 19th-Sep-2012 03:46 am (UTC)
Same. I just don't see the point of wearing jewelry. It's constricting... just like marriage.
snuffyqui45 19th-Sep-2012 03:48 am (UTC)

myhipusername 19th-Sep-2012 04:09 am (UTC)
lol what

sometimes rings or bracelets or w/e have some actual meaning to others, while some just wears rings and such cause they think it's pretty. plus sometimes costume jewelry can go really well with an outfit

ponpiri 19th-Sep-2012 03:50 am (UTC)
I used to hate jewelry as well. But a simple bracelet, ring or necklace (my main choice) looks really nice every once in a while
abcdlovelife 19th-Sep-2012 03:52 am (UTC)
i just recently got into rings/necklaces. i still can't do bracelets
_______awshucks 19th-Sep-2012 03:52 am (UTC)
me too..my mom is always like "WEAR A NECKLACE!" but I never wear any jewelry.
sixteenways 19th-Sep-2012 03:53 am (UTC)
My main jewelry~ is wearing a watch and earrings. blah lol
anolinde 19th-Sep-2012 04:07 am (UTC)
I don't hate necklaces/bracelets, but I pretty much never wear them. If I'm ever in a relationship where marriage is an possibility, I'm going to tell the guy not to bother with a ring. I could maybe go for an engagement necklace, but rings are the fucking worst.
rlmoonyk 19th-Sep-2012 04:09 am (UTC)
same. I don't even wear earrings.
sexyvegeta 19th-Sep-2012 04:30 am (UTC)
I only wear necklaces
yurasama_love 19th-Sep-2012 04:33 am (UTC)
My grandmother gets furious when she sees me without jewelry. But I just can't wear it (unless they're earrings) without constantly fiddling with them. I'm jangling bracelets and removing rings and twisting necklaces. It's a mess.
winegums 19th-Sep-2012 04:53 am (UTC)
I can appreciate it on other people, but one of the best things about moving to a different city for college was the fact that I got to take my earrings out for good and no one could ream me out for that.

My extended family still make judgey noises about the lack of jewellery on me when they see me, but idgaf and the stuff we have here is not even cute, I fucking hate "ethnic" jewellery.
sihaya09 19th-Sep-2012 06:47 am (UTC)
I make jewelry for a living, and the only piece of jewelry I wear on a daily basis is my wedding band. I'll throw on earrings or a necklace for going out maybe, but work? Meh. Just gets in the way.
agatharuncible 19th-Sep-2012 08:05 am (UTC)
I love jewelry. I use only one or two things at the time (so nothing like wearing a bracelet AND a necklace AND earrings AND a ring) but I like combining it with different clothes. I'm really into small details, so maybe that's why.
miss_kate18 19th-Sep-2012 09:40 am (UTC)
I only wear rings and earrings. I do own some necklaces and bracelets, but I can never remember to put them on unless it's a special event. I really don't like those huge, costume jewelry sort of necklaces that seem to be everywhere at the moment.
iruleuruniverse 19th-Sep-2012 11:44 am (UTC)
This thread is cracking me up!
I loooooove wearing jewelry. I love my engagement as wedding ring, I wear them daily. Along with them is my sapphire ring on my right hand and my sapphire pendant necklace. Earrings are not a must, but I like them just as much. I don't switch from those typically unless an outfit calls for it, but I feel naked if I don't have all that stuff on.
snuffyqui45 19th-Sep-2012 03:45 am (UTC)
I don't care for either of these ladies, but they could both do better.

I always thought Alanis was too good for him as well.
