Fifty Shades of Grey author E.L. James writing another erotic tale

E.L. James, author of the best-selling trilogy Fifty Shades, said on Monday that she hasn’t ruled out writing a fourth book, but is focused on composing another erotic tale and also plans to write a paranormal romance.

The British author, who’s currently on a book tour in the United States, said she’s rewriting the first book she ever wrote because she just can’t seem to shake the plot line and characters from her mind.

“It’s still in my head. I want it out of my head. I want it gone,” said James, who wouldn’t reveal much about the story, other than it’s an “erotic tale” that is “more fun” than the trilogy.

“I also have another thing, which isn’t an erotic tale. It’s more of a paranormal romance, which I’d really like to do as well.”

For the uninitiated, James’ trilogy Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed follows the racy romance between Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey, a handsome multi-millionaire who introduces her to the erotic pleasures of BDSM (Bondage, Discipline, Domination/Submission, Sadism/Masochism).

James said that when she finished the third book, she felt she had completed the couple’s tale, saying “I left them in a really, really good place. But there seems to be lots of people clamouring for a fourth book in the trilogy,” said James, whose books have become a publishing sensation, so far selling 31 million copies worldwide.

When asked about a fourth book, she replied: “We’ll see.”

First, she said, she’d like to complete the other projects, saying, “There’s lots of voices clattering in my head.”

James made her comments at a media event in New York City where she promoted the release of Fifty Shades of Grey: The Classical Album, a 15-track compilation featuring classical pieces that inspired her while writing the book, and are referenced in the trilogy. The CD, which includes the “Flower Duet” from Lakmé, Pachelbel’s Canon in D and the aria from Bach’s Goldberg Variations, was released on Sept. 11.

James always listens to music while writing — in part because she writes in the living room and must drown out the sound of her two teenage sons watching television. But also because “music is so expressive (and) it can help set a scene,” she said, adding she has a lengthy playlist that she turns to for inspiration. When it comes to penning steamy sex scenes, she opts for “Sexy” by the Black Eyed Peas or Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m on Fire.” The partnership between EMI Classics and Random House is believed to be the first time that a CD’s release has been inspired by a book — typically, CD compilations are released in conjunction with a film.

A movie is in the works — Universal Pictures and Focus Films have purchased the rights to all three books — but EMI Classics has jumped on the bandwagon early. After all, the book’s reference to “Spem in alium,” a 16th-century motet for 40 voices by Thomas Tallis, is credited with its surge to the top of the classical charts this summer in the UK.

I tried reading the book, to give it a shot before judging. But holy shit, I just couldn't do it. I got to the point of the contract and I shut it off.

go to jenniferarmintrout.blogspot.com and read her 50 shades recaps. They are hilarious and have outstanding sarcastic commentary.

That's what I'm doing instead of reading those god-awful books.

Lol I stopped at the same point. I was so astonished at it being the best selling book that I googled about it & found that awesome Goodreads review which saved me from further reading.

I read the whole trilogy, so that I could honestly ridicule the whole thing. What does that make me?

I loved how this summer at the Outer Banks, i saw the book in so many hands. My 15yo saw this pregnant chick on the beach reading it and said 'wow, thats sad to be reading that out in public'.
stellar_ball 19th-Sep-2012 02:30 am (UTC)
TBH I've only seen maybe 2? people with the book. I know more than enough who have said they read it, but thankfully I haven't seen people with it, unfortunately most book stores near me have closed, but at least i didn't have to see it in the windows (unlike when Twilight became the rage)
gangsterdorothy 19th-Sep-2012 02:22 am (UTC)
I was in Target yesterday and placed much better books in front of it. Including a better music album in front of the "music inspired by 50 Shades" album or something like that.
snuffyqui45 19th-Sep-2012 02:25 am (UTC)
Lol 2 different ladies were reading this in my obgyn's office.

I just rolled my damn eyes.

My mom asked me if she should read it since a lot of people are and I said HALE NO. I'm plying her with Jennifer Cruisie and Rachel Gibson to make her forget.

I told my sister when we were in Costco that next time we come, I'm going to bring a note, photocopied 100 times, and put it in every copy. Something along the lines of - consider this fair warning/ if you pay for this and read it and generally encourage it, be prepared to relinquish your right to complain about the quality of anything EVER AGAIN.

I have a nasty urge to burn the bookstores that are selling it. Thank God there aren't any selling it here.

Urgh seriously, it's everywhere. Luckily most places never look like they've sold much.
milkradio 19th-Sep-2012 04:29 pm (UTC)
ugh seriously. I'm reading the recaps here and holy god, there is so much abuse in these books, it's astonishing. Like, not even the actual "BDSM" scenes (which apparently isn't even real BDSM, considering how terrible they both are at being Dominant and submissive.... and they constantly try to act like anyone who's into that stuff must be ~fucked up~ and have some kind of past trauma, which even I know isn't true), it's all the other shit Christian Grey does to manipulate and terrorise Anastasia Steele (also lmao @ those names, jfc). He is seriously so fucking scary and psychotic and she is dumber than a bag of hammers and it's really frustrating to read all the things he does to her (eg. coming all the way to her place of work ~as a coincidence~ when he didn't even know her and buying things a serial killer would buy, trying to get her to sign a contract to be his submissive not only in the bedroom but in ALL ASPECTS OF HER LIFE WTF even though she started out as a virgin and would have no idea what the fuck she was getting into, being insanely possessive of her and getting angry whenever any other man looks at her or talks to her, tracking her cell phone and showing up at her house uninvited and unannounced like a fucking stalker, bringing her to his bedroom instead of back to her own house when she was passed out drunk, buying her expensive things when she asks him not to because it makes her uncomfortable, getting her drunk on purpose and trying to get her to sign his contract because ~she's more honest when she's been drinking~ except HEY you can't consent when you're drunk asshole!!!!, FOLLOWING HER TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COUNTRY WHEN SHE TOLD HIM SHE WANTED SPACE, pushing her to do things she's clearly not comfortable with, trying to finger her when they're at dinner WITH HIS PARENTS and getting angry when she tries to keep his hands away from her, continuing to hit her with a fucking BELT even though he knows he's going way too far and she couldn't even think if using her safeword because THAT'S HOW FAR ACROSS THE LINE HE WENT, she constantly talks about how she's scared of him and wants to run away and she ends up bawling to her family and friends but can't tell them about the BDSM because of the non-binding contract, forcing her to go on birth control because ~he doesn't like condoms~, etc. ad nauseum).

Seriously, even if it was just the shitty writing, I would still hate these books, but add in all the incredibly disgusting things he does to her and you just get a book about a really abusive relationship that's masquerading as some epic romance with ~steamy sex scenes~ (who the fuck got turned on by scenes that mention tossing used tampons into the toilet?! I mean, you don't fucking put tampons in the toilet unless you want to ruin your plumbing and this guy is 27 years-old, so it's not like he knows jack shit about feminine hygiene products, I mean come on, he's not 13... and VOMIT @ her referring to his dick as her own ~Christian Grey-flavoured popsicle~ when she goes down on him I mean UGH REALLY?! Also, yeah, I bet his soapy dick tasted great since you were in a bath together!). IDGI why so many women are swooning over this mess. And that's not even going into how Mary-Sueish and misogynistic Ana herself is. She's always bitching about other women looking or talking to ~her man~ and making bitchy comments about how much makeup other women are wearing or how they blush or stammer when they talk to Christian EVEN THOUGH SHE DOES THE EXACT SAME SHIT.

idek why I'm reading these recaps. They started out funny and snarky, but they just get more and more depressing and rage-inducing because it's not funny to read about all this creepy abusive shit over and over. I just feel like I need to know exactly how fucked up this mess of a series is to truly express all the reasons I hate it.

And I'm sorry for the novel-length comment.

If I could point people to a book which gave all the reasons why the trilogy is shite, I would.
