He's amazing and you beat me to it! I was trying to make my first entry to ONTD about this(took me forever because I kept screwing up the code lol). So anywaye, mods, you can obviously ignore that entry your queue. :)
But seriously I'm really proud of our Mr Ackles. He sounds great, he's the real deal. He's been slowly but surely working his way into this music thing with his friends giving him friendly shoves along the path for the better part of a decade and it seems like it took a long time for him to work up the nerve to do something like this and I'm glad he did. He's got a great voice and clearly has a passion for music. It was his idea to cover this song because it seems to mean something to him personally. Probably because the music industry and the acting industry aren't so different in the sense of people wanting you to sell your soul for success, giving you a line, promising you the world and then just taking what they can get and cutting out.
I don't have any of the links but the album with the song as well as a cover of "Little Black Sumbarines" sung by CSI's Elisabeth Harnois and the other cover songs as sung by Steve Carlson is available here: Amazon, as well as at iTunes and SCUK-merchandise.com in the UK.
I'm proud of Jensen slowly coming out of his shell with this, especially since it's something that he really does have a lot of passion for.
I remember hearing Steve talk about Jensen like five or six years ago and saying that he has never in his entire life met anyone with a more natural ear for harmonies than Jensen.
People should just not try to cover Elliott Smith because they will always fail... I like him and he has a nice voice but he completely butchered the song.
I was kind of surprised when I heard that he was going to be doing this track with Steve (especially since he was actually taking lead and not just doing backing vocals) since he's always been super critical of himself musically. Even more surprised that they did this video. I really do like his voice here and he sounds a lot more comfortable than when he did his track with Jason (or when he's performed publicly with him). Maybe that it's just more suited for his voice as well.
I can't believe I'm writing a super long comment about Jensen Ackles and music but I am dear God.
