Stevie Nicks to premiere documentary @ Mill Valley Film Festival

Stevie Nicks will premiere "In Your Dreams," a documentary detailing the making of her latest album of the same name, at the Mill Valley Film Festival on October 12th. Stevie will be on hand after the showing to answer questions.

FOCUS: ROCK’N’SOUL • SPECIAL PREMIERE Decadent rock star, ’70s survivor, gypsy songbird, cape-clad dervish, white-winged dove—the inimitable Stevie Nicks has entranced millions of fans worldwide with her poetic lyrics, sultry singing and featherand-lace style. Having remained a powerful pop force for more than four decades, in 2010 Nicks embarked on the recording of a new solo album, In Your Dreams, produced by former Eurythmics mastermind Dave Stewart. With cameras in tow, documentarian Stewart and diva Nicks set up shop in her home studio and reveal their collaborative creative process, as snippets of words and music undergo inspired tinkering and emerge as fully fledged gems. Throughout, Nicks shares intimate memories of childhood and her high-flying days with Fleetwood Mac, reflects on Hurricane Katrina in a particularly moving song and insists on just the right guitar solo even as Stewart and album co-producer Glen Ballard challenge her choices. Shifting dynamically among video formats, painstaking recording sessions and revealing interviews, this magic-tinged musical journey is a loving and tuneful portrait of the eternally bewitching Gold Dust Woman.

I can't freaking wait until this comes out so it can consume six months of my life. I hope they have tons of footage of the recording of Soldier's Angel, just sayin'.

my friend just saw her live and met her and apparently she's a huge douche.
overprotected 17th-Sep-2012 07:37 pm (UTC)
um, no. 40 years of other encounters say otherwise.
oneirophobias 17th-Sep-2012 07:48 pm (UTC)
you're familiar with every encounter she's ever had with anyone?

i don't even dislike her/her music, she just was extremely rude to my friend and the other people who got to meet her that night.
xtinkerbellax 17th-Sep-2012 07:50 pm (UTC)
How so?
oneirophobias 17th-Sep-2012 07:55 pm (UTC)
friend had won a pass to meet her and she wouldn't even talk to her. i don't know a ton of the details, just that my friend was incredibly sad/disappointed by the experience.

That seems really bizarre that she wouldn't chat with someone who had a meet & greet (I could understand if she was like trying to get to her car and everything and didn't have time to stop or whatever)..

Sorry that your friend seems to have had a less than ideal experience.
overprotected 17th-Sep-2012 07:55 pm (UTC)
of course not, but after being in the public eye people get reputations based on the many, many encounters they have had with people, obviously, and the only remotely negative thing that I've ever heard/read anyone say about her is that she can be a little in the clouds.

what happened with your friend?

Flawless human being. Remember when the two goddesses of pop and rock were in a picture together?

Cher tweeted one time that Kathy Griffin and Stevie called her and told her to come hang out with them & that "both those bitches are crazy tonight!"

bahahahaha

anthony 17th-Sep-2012 07:54 pm (UTC)
My friends and I like to read Cher's tweets in our Cher voices when we need a good laugh. She is priceless. I want to hang out with the 3 of them. BUCKET LIST.

anna_karenina_x 17th-Sep-2012 08:22 pm (UTC)
What's the story behind it?
overprotected 17th-Sep-2012 08:35 pm (UTC)
Stevie was getting her make-up done @ a photoshoot for the cover of Rolling Stone in '81, and there was a camera set up somewhere recording that no one knew about, and it just happened to capture this amazing impromptu performance.

30 years later whoever had the tapes in their posession put them on Youtube and now it's kind of an iconic thing in the Stevie world. They asked Stevie about it on a talk show a few months ago and she said her friend (the make-up artist) had shown her the video on Youtube but she had no clue who recorded it or that it had even been filmed.

anna_karenina_x 17th-Sep-2012 08:37 pm (UTC)
That's pretty cool. Where was the music coming from? And who was singing along with her?
overprotected 17th-Sep-2012 08:43 pm (UTC)
They're listening to a record of tracks for Fleetwood Mac's album Mirage, which they were working on at the time. The one she's singing over is an early backing track Can't Go Back.

If you listen to her talking to that random man afterward, she says they made up what they were singing in the car on the way there.

What she's singing in this video she did eventually record as a song, but it's very different:

I wish they had recorded it the way she did it at the photo shoot, it sounded amazing
overprotected 17th-Sep-2012 10:40 pm (UTC)
Me too, me too. But I guess she didn't want to rip Lindsey's song off so they changed it.

Here for my queen - BUT - I couldn't buy that album. I will be damned if I buy some CD with a woman with long blonde hair and a white horse on the cover. I. Just. Cannot.

I have never before heard about her being rude to a fan before (and she's on my list for 33 years now), so she must have had a really bad day.
overprotected 17th-Sep-2012 08:36 pm (UTC)
You've listened to the album though, right? 'Cause it's pretty awesome.
stoppelhopser 17th-Sep-2012 08:45 pm (UTC)
I like some of the songs, as usual with her solo productions, it was a tad to cheesy for me. I totally prefer her work with FM - as a solo artist, she has some wonderful songs buried under tons of overproduced fluff. Alot of her demos sound much better than the finished songs to me.

I'm in Europe, so I have not nor will ever see a Stevie show in person. With FM, I find her endlessly entertaining, beautiful and charming to boot.

overprotected 17th-Sep-2012 10:40 pm (UTC)
I agree about the overproduction. Her first two albums were great production wise (with the second leaning toward being a little too produced on some songs) and after that it was all down-hill. I much prefer to hear her solo songs as demos / live than on record, for the most part.
