Also, I have to say that I really like that Mary and Matthew's marital conflicts seem to be coming from a clash of Mary's pragmatism and Matthew's moral code. Like idk. I love that part of their relationship and it seems to be a lot more series 1 than series 2. Series 2 had a lot more ~external forces~ keeping them apart and causing conflict. Which is fine, but idk. It's a lot less interesting to me than these characters naturally falling into conflict due to personality differences.
i like when the conflicts are realistic, it is always more exciting than ex girlfriends/boyfriends, love triangles, misunderstandings, overhearing bla bla
probably. I can't blame Violet for having more hope for her granddaughter than everyone else has. I wouldn't want my young, impressionable grandkids sucking face with a man with dentures, y'know?
I said this in one of the posts last night, but I'll regurgitate it for you. :)
I think Violet is way more of a romantic than she lets on. And I think she genuinely wants the girls to be happy, and I bet she feels that Edith sells herself short and that she doesn't want Edith to be widowed within 15 years and a nurse full time within ten. It's not just enough to have a position, especially as the middle daughter. She doesn't have to make the same kind of sacrifices that Mary would have been expected to make had Patrick not died.
Edith is unique in that she's not as attractive as the other two, and she's the middle, often forgotten, child. She has the luxury of being 'allowed' to marry for love and there's really no reason she shouldn't. I don't even know if her and Branson running away would have caused the scandal that Sybil and Branson running away did.
And in regards to Edith 'settling' for Sir Anthony, I'm not sure Violet is wrong (bc in my mind that's why she's so against it). Edith has such a one track mind here, and part of me wonders if it's just bc Sir Anthony was going to propose once and only didn't being of Mary's harsh comment (which Edith completely deserved, imo, but that's beside the point) and Edith simply doesn't have any other prospects other than married farmers.
ia completely. I think Violet probably knows that Edith can do better and genuinely wants her to be happy with someone who can make her happy, not an old guy she has to look after. and yes, I think Edith has only latched onto Sir Anthony because he seems accessible enough and she probably isn't confident enough to know that she could have someone else.
I'm not really that bothered about M/M or Bates or the Bransons or Shirley MacLaine or Robert's woes. And I still loved it. It was just 90 minutes of happy silly Fellowes crack. Get to the watching, bb.
im over Edith being unhappy all the time. let her have her old man. and Branson...we get it dude. please tone down the "Irish are oppressed" speeches...at least for Sybil's sake. i think the relationship between him and Matthew will be good for him.
Oh snap, Edith is not happy. And Bates may hang for murder after all. D:

there you go, bb
Where the hell are the knock-offs at and what excuse can I make for wearing it since marriage isn't happening anytime soon?
then you can be a young, sassy divorcee, it'll give you extra mystique.

All the good MM fic is at ff.net, and you have to read everything by Orangeshipper, Pemonyen, Silvestria, and Chickwriter
I don't bookmark fics so I'm bad about remembering them. Fall of the House of Grantham is a pretty good WIP fic about the Crawleys during WW2 though.
That or she owes her sister/brother an awful lot :P
