Mama June's signature sketti sauce

Mama June's signature sketti sauce, which she showed us all how to make on last night's very special Top Chef: Trailer Parker episode of soon-to-be Television Hall of Fame inductee Here Comes Honey Boo Boo!

When Mama June's backyard cooler is fresh out of ground roadkill meat, she feeds her family one of their favorite gourmet dishes: sketti noodles covered with a delicious butter and ketchup sauce. With her sous chef Julia Honey Boo Boo Child at her side, Mama June mixed half-a-tub of Country Crock with a lot of ketchup and melted it in the microwave until it smelled and looked like what came out during Paula Deen's inaugural menstrual cycle. Throw a bag of white bread from the Wonder Bread outlet on the table and dinner is served!

One of my favorite things to eat as a kid that's still one of my favorite things to NOM NOM on is spaghetti noodles drowned in butter and a full thing of Kraft grated parmesan cheese. Just like me, it's easy, greasy and will leave you feeling farty in your stomach bag. But even though sluts always scream at me to try it with Heinz, I never have. Thanks to the culinary genius of Mama June, I'm totally going to broaden my gourmet palate by trying it with Heinz and I'm totally going to serve it with my piece of my trash nachos (Nabisco saltines with melted Kraft singles on top) and garlic bread (a toasted hot dog bun dipped in melted butter and rolled in garlic salt).

ericasays 14th-Sep-2012 04:18 am (UTC)
i always thought the most horrible prank to play on someone would be to use that ped-egg foot scraper and then use the shavings on someone's food. that stuff looked just like Parmesan cheese.

it completes the picture tbh

It's reminding me of that episode of The Proud Family where Sugar Mama shows Oprah her recipe for her "Get Up and Go" bars. lol

That's the first thing I saw and was hoping like hell it was a fat ass hand. :/

this is the most offensive thing about this show vom omg
nationalboner 14th-Sep-2012 04:01 am (UTC)
That sounds absolutely revolting.
madhubala 14th-Sep-2012 04:01 am (UTC)
Eww! Butter makes me gag.
nationalboner 14th-Sep-2012 04:02 am (UTC)
I love butter... but butter and ketchup as spaghetti "sauce"? Disgusting.
the_only_babbs 14th-Sep-2012 02:27 pm (UTC)
I have an irrational love of butter. My favorite is called Cremerie Classique Butter. It has 82% (sometimes a wee bit more) butter fat content. It is so freaking good.
invisible_cunt 14th-Sep-2012 04:07 am (UTC)
it's the ketchup i can't stand

i've literally been so hungry waiting for food at a bar mitzvah that i started to eat the little butter square for the rolls
sexi_panda 14th-Sep-2012 04:08 am (UTC)
Glad i'm not the only one.
thetxbelle 14th-Sep-2012 04:39 am (UTC)
It's not even butter it's margarine which is nasty.
chantonii 14th-Sep-2012 04:42 am (UTC)
My mum hates butter/marg and now I do too.

One time I was making sandwiches at work and a co-worker put so much butter on both sides of the bread...ugh.
kstew 14th-Sep-2012 05:06 am (UTC)
seriously it's so gross
preparatory 14th-Sep-2012 06:31 am (UTC)

twoyearsaway 14th-Sep-2012 04:02 am (UTC)
i love how she said to use "a little bit of butter" and then scooped out a shit ton of butter.

and then one of the older daughters used the butter container as her bowl.
xtinkerbellax 14th-Sep-2012 04:13 am (UTC)
lol both of those things killed me.
backincharge 14th-Sep-2012 04:23 am (UTC)
The whole family was eating out of containers. lmao
hannahgrace456 14th-Sep-2012 05:40 am (UTC)
ofc are you serious? yuck!
ghosts 14th-Sep-2012 08:51 am (UTC)
hey man, sometimes tupperware and empty margarine containers are the 'fine china' when you're short on dishes and dont give a fuck to put the dishwasher on.

'tis happened, haha.
flicka23 14th-Sep-2012 05:25 pm (UTC)
nothing wrong with re-using old food containers as long as they're clean. it's resourceful :)
sweet_honesty 14th-Sep-2012 02:16 pm (UTC)
We always save butter containers. They are perfect for bringing leftovers to work because if you accidentally leave them, it's not a tragedy. Upcycling!
fame 14th-Sep-2012 03:39 pm (UTC)
lmao my family is so guilty of this. granted, we are also from georgia, less than 50 miles from honey boo boo, and southern as fuck.

empty margarine, sour cream, dip (like for chips), cool whip, and margarita mix containers make up my family's tupperware collection.

i have a sad little mix of gladware that is for my use :(
katiese93 14th-Sep-2012 04:02 am (UTC)
Ok I'll admit ever since I was little, I've eaten corn on the cob with mayo.

My dad made me try and idk I love it. He said it was a Swedish thing but I think he was lying.

viicckky 14th-Sep-2012 04:09 am (UTC)
they call it Mexican/Chicago style corn here ( but you add grated cheese and chili powder)
stellar_ball 14th-Sep-2012 04:13 am (UTC)
OMG, YES! WHAT IS THAT MEXICAN CORN CALLED?! The son-in-law of a former boss always made it and she would bring it in but of course I lost the recipe and cannot for the life of me think of what it's called.

There's some sort of special spice in it though.
isthisdesire 14th-Sep-2012 04:27 am (UTC)
yesssssssssss this! it's one of the things I miss from Chicago (besides every other awesome food made there lol)

I make it here at home now to ~remember my childhood~ with lime, butter, mayo and parmesan cheese.
sonadoras456 14th-Sep-2012 04:39 am (UTC)
YESS..I add mayo and then Parmesan cheese on top...SO DAMN GOOD
yim_yames 14th-Sep-2012 04:58 am (UTC)
esquites! I miss them
hoot 14th-Sep-2012 11:44 am (UTC)
I've always wanted to try it but I've never found it anywhere. Of course I could make it myself but it's probably something I'd want to try properly made first so I know how it should be done.
crazyventures 14th-Sep-2012 04:10 am (UTC)
If you like mayo on corn you should try Elote! It's Mexican-style corn on the cob with mayo, chili powder, lime, and cotija cheese
madhubala 14th-Sep-2012 04:10 am (UTC)
That repulsive. At least your Dad didn't trick you into eating a cow tongue. :/
caribou_cake 14th-Sep-2012 04:10 am (UTC)
corn with mayo is quite popular actually, at least from where I'm from. its usually corn on the cob slathered with mayo and sprinkled all over with Parmesan cheese and spices.
foureyedgirl 14th-Sep-2012 04:14 am (UTC)
Mexican thing for us. we eat corn (elote) with mayo, cheese, chile and lime
rebeccamars 14th-Sep-2012 04:42 am (UTC)
I'm Mexican and this is how I grew up eating it.
vzylexy 14th-Sep-2012 05:06 am (UTC)
ELOTE!!!
neko_oni 14th-Sep-2012 05:21 am (UTC)
Popular in Japan also. I've eaten bread topped with corn and mayo from the local 7/11 there. It was... Interesting.
hannahgrace456 14th-Sep-2012 05:40 am (UTC)
Oh my lanta that sounds disgusting.
vatulele 14th-Sep-2012 05:59 am (UTC)
That's a Mexican thing down here on the border. Mayo and Ranch.
la_geni 14th-Sep-2012 06:01 am (UTC)
I used Mexican sour cream all my life not mayo lol But my parents are from a hipster state in Mexico were sushi is the street food, and menudo is white. So. lol

nationalboner 14th-Sep-2012 04:07 am (UTC)
IKR.

My mom makes an amazing vegetarian spaghetti sauce. Canned tomatoes, tomato paste, garlic and basil. Simple and delicious.
bluebandit77 14th-Sep-2012 04:08 am (UTC)
that sounds amazing..

my dad pretty much does the same thing but we add either ground beef or italian sausage.
gigglyvapidslut 14th-Sep-2012 11:35 pm (UTC)
that's it, no more ingredients? asking because i'm writing it down :D

candy_gutter 14th-Sep-2012 06:22 am (UTC)
Fresh homemade tomato sauce is just so easy to make, and one can get it ready while waiting for the water to boil and then the pasta to cook. Same goes with a real carbonara ffs! My italian soul weeps whenever ketchup is used as pasta sauce. Just... NO.
haverchuck_bill 14th-Sep-2012 01:17 pm (UTC)
I'm dying to try my own homemade spaghetti sauce

I was really surprised that so many people in the post last night thought they were weird for throwing a spaghetti noodle at the fridge to test if it was done. I didn't know that there were people that didn't do that. :-X
eaglefan2011 14th-Sep-2012 04:06 am (UTC)
yea i always do that

Can't you just pick a piece out a test it?
nationalboner 14th-Sep-2012 04:08 am (UTC)
LOL I've heard of people doing that. I always just taste-test pasta to see if it's done, though.
invisible_cunt 14th-Sep-2012 04:08 am (UTC)
lol wtf that's a thing?
i just take out a noodle, cool it off and eat it to see if it's al dente.......
caitie_roxs13 14th-Sep-2012 04:09 am (UTC)
I had no idea people actually did it because one time I suggested it to my mom because I thought it would be fun but she just looked at me like I was crazy.
sugarbobbin 14th-Sep-2012 04:09 am (UTC)
It's usually the ceiling in my family.
redaodai 14th-Sep-2012 04:10 am (UTC)
I've heard of that, but I've never done it. I just pull a piece out and poke it to see if it's tendah.
dubiously 14th-Sep-2012 04:10 am (UTC)
I've seen lots of people do that, but I don't think it's necessary if you're timing it properly.
angriest_girl 14th-Sep-2012 04:10 am (UTC)
I just cook it for one minute less than it says on the packet and it always comes out perfect.
bluebandit77 14th-Sep-2012 04:10 am (UTC)
that's gross..taste it to see if it's al dente and keep it moving.
evett 14th-Sep-2012 04:13 am (UTC)
I've done it at the wall not fridge. but rarely do it. around 10 mins and I know it is cooked. If I'm unsure (like with bowties since they need extra time) then I taste it.
fruitchews 14th-Sep-2012 04:13 am (UTC)
I toss it at the cabinets. It's easy to just eat a bit of it but way fun to toss pasta.
sadisticsidhe 14th-Sep-2012 04:13 am (UTC)
Usually it's the cabinet with my family but yeah that's the BEST PART.
filmfreakfranco 14th-Sep-2012 04:24 am (UTC)
wait what? what's supposed to happen?
dancedallnight 14th-Sep-2012 04:34 am (UTC)
oh i've never heard of throwing it on the fridge, but I do throw it on the wall next to the stove lol. i'm not even sure where I picked that up because nobody in my family does it
secretlemonade 14th-Sep-2012 04:38 am (UTC)
lol mte. My mom always did that and so do I. I know there are other ways to check but throwing it is fun. lol

I have never heard of this, what

I usually just take a noodle and taste it
jtaps 14th-Sep-2012 04:51 am (UTC)
I've never even heard of that but we're arabic so we know our food is done just by looking lol, even if it's a roast, my mom would just take off the foil and be like "ok it's done". :/
potatoboat 14th-Sep-2012 05:04 am (UTC)
I can't believe people have never heard of this. It's been around for sooooo long
sugary_placenta 14th-Sep-2012 05:16 am (UTC)
Seems like a waste of a noodle.
ari_hime 14th-Sep-2012 05:32 am (UTC)
i usually just cook it for the amount in the directions then swish it around with a spoon to see if it's soft enough.
candy_gutter 14th-Sep-2012 06:24 am (UTC)
But... but if it sticks, that means it's overdone.
hope_remains 14th-Sep-2012 06:32 am (UTC)
Lol whaaaat. I don't watch the show but I've never heard of anyone doing this. I just taste the noodle to see if it's done, hahaha. Interesting.

but... that's a legit way of testing
lillylilacs 14th-Sep-2012 12:41 pm (UTC)
what? I have never heard of this before in my entire life. What is the fridge suppose to prove? I can barely cook and I can always tell when my pasta is done w/o help.
juel1979 14th-Sep-2012 01:16 pm (UTC)
Seriously, I thought it was common knowledge. And the most fun part of making pasta. =P
haverchuck_bill 14th-Sep-2012 01:17 pm (UTC)

invisible_cunt 14th-Sep-2012 05:05 am (UTC)
real homemade

whole wheat herb dough from scratch
and we have real cheese in our house
my mom doesn't even put ketchup in her homemade burgers anymore because it's too much sugar
