The King is Risen: Jerry Lawler TOUTS fans 3 days After Suffering Heart Attack, and More

There's also a news piece from one of Lawler's sons, Kevin, in which he talks about his father's recovery process:

Kevin Lawler says his father went without oxygen for about 20 minutes. They were worried he might have brain damage. A CAT scan showed no signs of brain damage and doctors expect him to make a full recovery. Kevin talked to his dad for the first time today and says he sounded just like himself.

He says doctors say his father is healthy for his age and they see no reason why he won’t be able to wrestle again. Kevin Lawler holds a wrestling event once a month at the Raleigh Springs Mall. He’s inviting wrestling fans to come out this Friday night at 7pm to pray for his dad and celebrate his remarkable recovery.

And lastly Lawler's friend and Collegue Michael Cole (who handled the situation brilliantly on Monday night was on Fox and Friends to discuss the incident yestersay morning:

Glad he's feeling better!
jigglemypuff 14th-Sep-2012 03:30 am (UTC)
Wow. 20 minutes without oxygen usually does not go well. He is so lucky.
melody2tds 14th-Sep-2012 03:49 am (UTC)
The 20 minutes "without" oxygen is a bit of exaggeration or more specifically misunderstanding/miscommunication on how rescue of people mid-heart attack are treated.
He was given CPR starting right there at ringside, and continuing life-saving measures all along the way. His heart may have stopped pumping blood on it's own, but the paramedics would have continued CPR, and supplied oxygen using a bag to breathe for him, so oxygenated blood would still have been circulating through his system the entire time.
It's still amazing that he has no brain damage at all, because the amount of oxygen to his brain would have been less than normal, but it's not quite as miraculous as it seems.

That being said, serious props to the medical professionals stationed at ringside, Calgary paramedics, and the doctors at the hospital he went to. All combined to save his life, and he is a very lucky man.

I'm just livid they were told to stop working at ringside.
roguish 14th-Sep-2012 02:37 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I have no medical knowledge whatsoever but I knew that the 20 minutes without oxygen thing was false.

Calgary paramedics tho? He was in Montreal!

oops. ya, I was sleepy when I wrote that. Lets just thank all Canadian Paramedics, instead. That way my sleep-deprived ass can't forget anyone.
jearsforqueers 14th-Sep-2012 03:30 am (UTC)
wow i wasn't expecting him to be standing up so soon like this.

idk how i feel about the idea of him wrestling though. maybe this was a sign that you need to stop.
melody2tds 14th-Sep-2012 04:14 am (UTC)
That bandage on his neck you can see in the video is probably the only sign of the angioplasty and placement of the stent he was apparently given. Heart surgery has come a very long way. Him being up and walking around some already is actually pretty normal, and means very good things for his recovery.

What Cole said about his health and schedule is true though, he'd have to be medically approved every time he got into the ring to wrestle a match with the WWE, or he wouldn't have been allowed. It's part of their company policy for all wrestlers, not just the older ones.
He still wrestled all over the world, and travels a lot more than just to the RAW events he announces. I doubt he'll stop completely as long as Drs OK it, but I imagine he may cut back some on his outside appearances and travel a bit less to lessen the accumulated stress.

20 mins without oxygen and surviving, without any brain damage...? Very lucky.

He is a very lucky man.

get well soon king
opheliarose 14th-Sep-2012 03:46 am (UTC)
fierce and flawless tag absolutely applies here. he's SO, SO lucky that this happened to him at an event rather than at home or on a plane or something, he probably would not still be with us otherwise, and that's an awful thought. bless that man's soul and here's hoping for a full and happy recovery for him!
solong_starlet 14th-Sep-2012 03:52 am (UTC)
I'm so happy he is doing well. I'm looking forward to when he is fully recovered and back to being on screen. RAW commentary won't be the same without him!
time_ambassador 14th-Sep-2012 03:58 am (UTC)
Bless you for this post. I don't see much wrestling news here.

Michael Cole really did handle everything beautifully. I never want to hear him or see him that visibly upset again, though. It was like when you see your dad cry for the first time...you just feel like the world is going to end.

So happy that King is up and doing well with no lasting damage. I can't believe he'll be able to wrestle again! If I were him, I'd be too afraid of having a repeat episode. But something tells me King isn't as skittish as me. I imagine he'll wrestle again. Not for a while, but he will eventually. I at least hope he'll return to commentary soon. Michael Cole will sound sadder without him.

I have a feeling WWE won't let him wrestle again though, probably just for legal purposes.

YEAH KING PILEDRIVE THAT HEART ATTACK!
milewaddraben 14th-Sep-2012 12:54 pm (UTC)
Michael Cole is so much more likable not on WWE. Glad King is doing better, I wonder who will be his replacement until he comes back??
shazz_chan 14th-Sep-2012 01:13 pm (UTC)
Maybe JR? Or the guest comm. thing again perhaps.
I can't even believe this, how is he a real person?? <3
rebecky_mo 15th-Sep-2012 01:58 am (UTC)
There's Micheal Cole the character/announcer, and Micheal Cole the person. It's unfortunate we don't get to see as much of the person due to his role as a heel, but he's gotten serious respect/praise from fans after how he handled last Monday.

As for a (hopefully temporary) replacement, I could see them bringing Josh Matthews over and doing double duty like Cole already does. Or bring William Regal over from NXT; he and Cole could work really well together, I think.
milewaddraben 15th-Sep-2012 02:31 am (UTC)
Hmmm, Regal would be interesting.
shazz_chan 14th-Sep-2012 01:12 pm (UTC)
Of COURSE he fucking no sold a heart attack, of COURSE he did :')
Bless you, Jerry.

Damn right! The King pulled down one of the straps on his mental wrestling tights, and took that heart attack down!

He sure had us freaking out though. No more close calls like that, please and thank you.
brucelynn 14th-Sep-2012 02:52 pm (UTC)
Soooo glad he is doing better

now just take it easy ...
saintsmarching 14th-Sep-2012 04:47 pm (UTC)
My boyfriend showed me his Tout last night and I was so happy!!
rebecky_mo 15th-Sep-2012 01:48 am (UTC)
First time I've ever been happy to see a Tout video; not even 3 days after having a heart attack and being clinically dead, he's walking around and cracking jokes. There's only one Jerry Lawler, folks.
