President Obama and Michelle Obama on 'Fifty Shades of Grey': 'Glad' for readers

Many readers know that a book has truly found success when reporters are sometimes more interested in what President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama think of “Fifty Shades of Grey” in a time of upcoming political elections, foreign policy issues, and the U.S. economy debates.

In latest “50 Shades” news, President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama were asked some not-too-intimate questions this Wednesday during an “Entertainment Tonight” interview about EL James’ hottest novel, “Fifty Shades of Grey.” Although the record-breaking book and its steamy contents still seem to remain mostly a mystery to Barack and Michelle, they certainly do know more about it than they had only weeks ago.

After Barack stated this his wife usually falls asleep pretty early in the night, interviewer Nancy O’Dell of “Entertainment Tonight” gave some advice she found helpful: reading “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

“I haven’t had a chance to really read anything lately,” Michelle answered, though she did add that she knows about the main plot of the novel.

I think everyone has heard what ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ is about.”

As for the president’s take on the tale of love, submission, and dominance, he just said with a laugh he’s happy it has readers interested.

“I’m just glad that folks are entertained."

Barack had been asked about “50 Shades” before, though at the time he didn’t even know what it was. On “The View” this May, the president had been asked what the controversial “sex book that’s on millions of women’s beside tables at home” was all about, but he was understandably at a loss.

“I honestly don’t know that,” he said. “I’ll have to ask Michelle when I get back home.”

I think maybe the tampon scene was before a shower but I'm not sure. I can't remember.

distant_lines 14th-Sep-2012 03:08 am (UTC)
My sister tried to be like, "it's not bad in context". I pretty much screamed in a restaurant that there is never any context where that shit is anything but bad.
venecias 14th-Sep-2012 03:26 am (UTC)
What the hell is the tampon scene?
It sounds like something I don't really want to know.
ironicmustache 14th-Sep-2012 03:04 am (UTC)

publicfrenemy 14th-Sep-2012 03:23 am (UTC)

forevergold217 14th-Sep-2012 03:04 am (UTC)

stillglows 14th-Sep-2012 03:05 am (UTC)

superhetoric 14th-Sep-2012 03:07 am (UTC)
it's just so fucking inane. you have the chance to ask this very important person some questions. i can understand not trying to go all charlie rose on his ass but at least try not to be completely irrelevant.
expromqueen 14th-Sep-2012 03:16 am (UTC)
american journalism is dead
jessepinkman 14th-Sep-2012 03:49 am (UTC)

vehiclesshockme 14th-Sep-2012 03:18 am (UTC)
When I was like four I wrote to the president on crayon and construction paper asking if he could put The Little Mermaid soundtrack on record because I didn't have a cassette player. But I was four. My mom did mail it though because she thought it was hilarious.
whutness 14th-Sep-2012 02:07 pm (UTC)

winegums 14th-Sep-2012 03:30 pm (UTC)
they're not even my president and FLOTUS, but ia, it's disrespectful tbh.

If they HAD to ask about something super-popular by a British author, why couldn't it have been Harry Potter?
bohhead 14th-Sep-2012 02:59 am (UTC)
lol i watched that. shit was mad awk. i hope the lady got a raise for asking such an obnoxious question.
hawt_choklit 14th-Sep-2012 02:59 am (UTC)
Why are people still obsessing over this book, and why are entertainment outlets continuing to incorporate it into interviews with celebrities with no context? Or as a way to segue into the stories they are reporting on, again, with no context? You think the hype would've died down by now.
hera_bearrra 14th-Sep-2012 03:01 am (UTC)
Entertainment reporters ask so many random questions. They need to stop.
expromqueen 14th-Sep-2012 03:21 am (UTC)
it's seems like the only reason these type of media outlets hold interviews anymore is to be like "what do you think about [insert controversial musician/tv show/book]?"...like who gives a fuck lol most ppl have one of two opinions on a controversial topic
melissa_ivory 14th-Sep-2012 05:09 am (UTC)
Because people are still trying to educate the 'fans' on all the problems with this trilogy.
hawt_choklit 14th-Sep-2012 05:16 am (UTC)
LOL. I don't have a problem with the criticism; I have a problem with the obsessed people who think it's well-written and life-changing, such as these entertainment reporters who think people should or assume that people have already read it.
classic_mold137 14th-Sep-2012 03:00 am (UTC)
I just want to cry about "Obama" and "Fify Shades of Grey" ever being in the same title.
stormer1_1 14th-Sep-2012 03:00 am (UTC)
Why. Why would you do that. Why.

THIS IS WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY I TELL YA WHUT.
saintclaire87 14th-Sep-2012 03:00 am (UTC)
Really? I was about to ask, who the hell would ask them that, then I read it was ET. Enough said.
one_hoopy_frood 14th-Sep-2012 03:00 am (UTC)
Whyyyyyyyyyyyy do people ask him about this shit? I know it is supposed to be cute and pop-culture-y and funny but this is one of the most embarrassing ones yet. He handled that veeeery classily.
flyingpigs_live 14th-Sep-2012 03:00 am (UTC)
