America’s Next Top Model’s Jael Strauss Agrees to Treatment

Jael Strauss' episode of Dr. Phil aired today, and it was basically just an extended version of what we saw in the 30-second promo that went viral earlier this week. When she finally calmed down after fighting with her family and fleeing Dr. Phil's studio before she could even step onstage, she expressed embarrassment that her current life as a meth-using stripper was being discussed in front of a room full of people. And then Dr. Phil revealed more secrets about her (without explicitly stating them) and she got embarrassed all over again.

She finally relented to his badgering and agreed to treatment. She and Dr. Phil embraced by a dumpster. It was poignant and oddly appropriate.

She's never seemed more vulnerable. Hard not to root for her. We can count on an update on her status sometime soon, as the producers are undoubtedly aware of this viral goldmine.

Holy shit.

Ugh Dr Phil gets on my nerves but I love watching his show, no shame. He's so fame hungry but keeps it under wraps better than Dr. Drew does. One episode pissed me off though and it was the one where the father was accused of molesting his 6 year old and he was getting so sketchy when asking if the two could talk on air or something.

Plus he and his wife are hypocrites. Isn't it well known that he's a philanderer who was reprimanded in Texas for harassing his securities?

Dr. Phil is a joke. He's not a licensed psychologist. He was licensed in TX, but he was brought up on ethics charges. Instead of doing what the e board recommended, he gave up his license (iirc) and isn't licensed to practice in CA.
ponpiri 13th-Sep-2012 11:46 pm (UTC)
Wasn't he harassing his secretaries and a patient? Yeah he gave up his license and started consulting. I'm pretty sure that's how he got hooked up with Oprah.
aliminx 14th-Sep-2012 12:56 am (UTC)
Plus, he came out with a diet food line thingy and was sued for it, I think. Who wants to buy diet stuff from a fat guy?

But, in this episode, he seemed legit, and he's probably a decent guy.
anna_bea2 13th-Sep-2012 11:39 pm (UTC)
lol all of my professors hate him and Dr. Drew.
swissbeauty23 13th-Sep-2012 11:42 pm (UTC)

Addiction is a powerful thing. I hope she gets the help that she needs
zoaster_toaster 13th-Sep-2012 11:33 pm (UTC)
I feel so much for her and I hope she sticks with the treatment and beats meth.
deftonedpiano 13th-Sep-2012 11:33 pm (UTC)
Meth is one of several drugs I could never even comprehend trying. Seeing what it does to people is heart-breaking. I don't know what the appeal was for ANYONE to try it, and yet so many get hooked. So sad.
juryrig 13th-Sep-2012 11:41 pm (UTC)
Obviously can't speak for everyone, but when I got hooked on it I wasn't thinking about that second picture - I was thinking about it being something new and exciting to try. And it was, it just sucked everything pleasant out of my life after the initial fun wore off.
frenchverbs 13th-Sep-2012 11:50 pm (UTC)
ITA. I saw some compilation of mugshots of people who were on meth, and the damage that meth does to the human body was crazy to see. The people just looked so empty over the years.
whitegirlmob 13th-Sep-2012 11:50 pm (UTC)
Meth, I get. It's bath salt that confuses me. Who is advertising that as a good time??
xtinkerbellax 14th-Sep-2012 12:02 am (UTC)
That's the way I feel about PCP lol, I've never heard a good high on pcp story.
aliminx 14th-Sep-2012 12:57 am (UTC)
I found out that a good friend had tried it, after finding some of it in his stuff. I could NOT understand it. He said he just wanted to try it once, and he really only did it once, because he said it was fucking horrible.

Who knows what goes through some peoples' minds. Ugh.
black_swan87 14th-Sep-2012 12:59 am (UTC)
Idk sometimes you just want to get high, get naked, and eat a mans face
peacetrains 14th-Sep-2012 12:16 am (UTC)
Because a lot of people who try it aren't thinking about the long term negative side effects it will have? They try it (probably thinking it won't be as addictive as it is and it will just be a fun high) and then end up hooked.
kurtvonnegut 14th-Sep-2012 02:00 am (UTC)
i would obviously NEVER try it, but i can see why you might if you hung out with people who did it and for some reason they seemed fine. or if you just wanted to see what it was like because you think you can't possible get addicted. i always said i'd never try cocaine (still haven't) but when i hung around people who did it i was definitely tempted even though i know what it can do.

IA, I am too vain to ever try drugs, much less meth specifically, seeing the shit it does to your face.

devourlove [Trigger Warning]13th-Sep-2012 11:43 pm (UTC)
probably should have put a trigger warning on your comment but wow people are stupid and do the most to show it with unnecessary violence.
cleanburritos Re: [Trigger Warning]13th-Sep-2012 11:44 pm (UTC)
I completely forgot, I'll just delete it anyway. I don't want anyone to get upset.

This is kinda how I felt trying to watch the show. It was hard to watch/listen to.
imightbewrong4 13th-Sep-2012 11:55 pm (UTC)
her family can't afford private intervention, so this is the only way to go i suppose. it's a trade-off.
nouns 14th-Sep-2012 01:26 am (UTC)
dr phil isn't even a professional tho. he's not certified anywhere
peacetrains 14th-Sep-2012 12:18 am (UTC)
True, but I mean... if it was the only intervention resource her family had available and it gets her into treatment in the end, I guess it's a positive :/
