That 'Y: The Last Man' movie is not dead yet

It's been so long since we've heard any news about the movie adaptation of the post-apocalyptic comic Y: The Last Man, we'd assumed it was dead. But now, Vulture is reporting from sources inside New Line Cinema the the studio is quite pleased with the latest draft from Jericho writers Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia.

According to Vulture, the graphic novel movie adaptation was originally supposed to go to director DJ Caruso, but he's long since abandoned all hope on this movie and the door is open for someone new. Rumor has it New Line Cinema is ready to find a new person for the project and are currently meeting with candidates (send us your pitch reels now!).

The graphic novel was penned by Brian K. Vaughn, and takes place after a plague simultaneously kills every living mammal possessing a Y chromosome on the planet. The only two survivors are Yorick Brown and his male pet monkey. Fingers crossed they get this one right — the book is amazing.

Love the comic, but this would make a better TV series, IMO . . .

Seriously. It would give so many women steady work.
notoriousreign 13th-Sep-2012 09:55 pm (UTC)
Agreed.
cricketgrl 13th-Sep-2012 07:52 pm (UTC)
I agree OP. This would be best on TV not on film.

I'm not a big fan of BKV, I felt like he's pretty overrated like Bendis. I hated his change up on Ultimate X-men. Bendis set up something kinda cool by the end of his New Mutants arc then BKV fucked that to shit.

Although I did love his Magnetic North arc in Ultimate X-men.

Keep it as a one time memorable bunch of comics..
dramatik_irony 13th-Sep-2012 07:59 pm (UTC)
I just got this in the Reddit comic exchange. I'm excited to read it.

goingvogue 13th-Sep-2012 08:05 pm (UTC)
i need this in my life. though ia it would make a better show (hbo drop the newsroom and get up on this) than movie
brownxeyedxdork 13th-Sep-2012 08:11 pm (UTC)
IA OP
I would rather see Y:TLM as a television show or at least mini-series than a movie.
anydoppelganger 13th-Sep-2012 08:33 pm (UTC)
agreed.
oh7 13th-Sep-2012 08:12 pm (UTC)
Wasn't Shia Labeouf connected to this movie back in '07?
lunanoir 13th-Sep-2012 08:34 pm (UTC)
God I hope not.
leitao 13th-Sep-2012 08:35 pm (UTC)
I think so . . .

Bullet successfully dodged! lol
brownxeyedxdork 13th-Sep-2012 08:40 pm (UTC)
Yup.
Plus Alicia Keys was rumored to play Agent 355.
time_ambassador 13th-Sep-2012 09:19 pm (UTC)
Yeah, that's who DJ Caruso wanted. But now that he's out... :D

Plus this is too ~mainstream~ for Shia now. It's not a nude music video or an LSD trip.
oh7 13th-Sep-2012 09:42 pm (UTC)
lol He's so artsy now.

He was. Thank God that's not happening.
yurasama_love 13th-Sep-2012 08:15 pm (UTC)
This comic would make a perfect mini-series.
arbiterin 13th-Sep-2012 08:26 pm (UTC)
I cannot imagine Y:TLM as a movie. They'd have to cut so much. So IA with everyone: make a TV series.
actxappalledx 13th-Sep-2012 08:49 pm (UTC)
I loveee this series, but IA, would work sooooo much better as a tv series
devochkazhenya 13th-Sep-2012 08:51 pm (UTC)
I still need to finish the last issue.
deconstructs 13th-Sep-2012 08:53 pm (UTC)
argh can this just get made already in some capacity so hollywood will get to the real bkv deal: ex machina
asemic 13th-Sep-2012 09:04 pm (UTC)
YES. I was really skeptical about ExMa as a concept, but BKV absolutely nailed the execution. The ending and what happened between Hundred and everyone is seriously haunting.
deconstructs 13th-Sep-2012 09:05 pm (UTC)
seriously, what a great comic. and it has great episodic potential for hbo or even amc, something like that. :) everyone needs to stop squawking about ytlm (granted, a great comic too) and give mitchell hundred some looove
asemic 13th-Sep-2012 10:18 pm (UTC)
It is seriously underrated. When the series ended I was hoping for more reactions, but it seemed like only a handful of people cared. The current political climate makes this seem like the perfect comic to adapt, but I don't think it would happen.
notoriousreign 13th-Sep-2012 10:00 pm (UTC)
I effing love your icon. I have it as my twitter icon.

That's pretty CSB, but is Ex Machina any good? The plotline doesn't sound like something I'd like but DAMN it's BKV. =/
asemic 13th-Sep-2012 10:16 pm (UTC)
ExMa is my favorite comic series, so yes it is pretty good. Initially I was put off with the idea of reading a political series, but BKV handled it pretty well.
mushroom18 14th-Sep-2012 02:34 am (UTC)
Agreed, Ex Machina is just so amazing. That ending tore me apart ;_;
pasteleyes 13th-Sep-2012 09:48 pm (UTC)
I think a tv show for this would be amazing. They could have it back to back with The Walking Dead. My life would be made!
notoriousreign 13th-Sep-2012 10:09 pm (UTC)
My thoughts exactly OP, especially with the Jericho writers?! Come on now, it's so simple. Put it on AMC or HBO!

But I would watch a movie. Zachary Levi for Yorick, Naomie Harris or Tracie Thoms as 355, etc etc.
bmblebeela 13th-Sep-2012 10:11 pm (UTC)
he looks to old to be yorick tho
notoriousreign 14th-Sep-2012 01:25 am (UTC)
Yorick isn't that young. Like in volume three when he meets Natalya he has this beard that makes me think of Zachary.

But Levi is getting old, it saddens me. He was so perfect for the role back when Chuck only had two seasons. xD
bmblebeela 13th-Sep-2012 10:10 pm (UTC)
fuck no to both
i dont want to see this perfection get fucked by wrong actor/actress choices or shitty try hard portrayals
faithlessjuliet 13th-Sep-2012 10:34 pm (UTC)
Totally agree that it should be a tv series instead. But please no movie or tv series. Just let it be a comic. Let it be perfect.

anne_renee 14th-Sep-2012 12:26 am (UTC)
Totally needs to be a TV series.
babblinjoe 14th-Sep-2012 07:43 am (UTC)
2nd the motion for epic tv series and not movie. Movie won't do it justice.
