Star Trek reunion as Walter Koenig is honoured with spot on Hollywood Walk of Fame

He was the last remaining member of the first crew to boldly go where no man has gone before to be honoured.

And Star Trek legend Walter Koenig was clearly delighted to be given a spot on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today.

The 75-year--old, who played Russian Ensign Pavel Chekov, could not hide his joy as he posed with fellow series originals and his family at the unveiling ceremony.

Baldly going where no man has gone before: Star Trek legend Walter Koenig was delighted to receive his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today

He said: '"This is something that you hope and wish for, dream about, but something you never expect to really happen.

'It's a joyous occasion and I am deeply honoured.'

It is eight years since the last member of the cast was recognized, with James Doohan, who played Scottish engineer Montogomery Scott, give a spot for his contribution to television.

And three of his crew mates turned out to appear with their old friend, with Leonard Nimoy, Nichelle Nichols and George Takai serving as his Starfleet guard of honour.

Guard of honor: Costars Leonard Nimoy, Nichelle Nichols and George Takei turned out to salute their friend

Family guy: His wife Judy Levitt and daughter Danielle were also proud to see him receive the recognition

Big moment: The star seemed to enjoy unveiling his star while surrounded by a gaggle of fans and friends

Ironically 81-year-old Leonard was the only person not to give a cheeky Vulcan salute for the cameras, despite the fact he had made it famous as Mr Spock.

The show's star William Shatner, who played Captain James T Kirk, was conspicuous by his absence however.

Perhaps even more joyful for Walter will have been celebrating with his wife Judy Levitt and daughter Danielle, who both gave him congratulatory kisses.

William Shatner was the first crew member to receive a star, and by 1992 James and Walter were the only crew members not to have one.

Where's William? Shatner did not make an appearance despite the fact he played Captain Kirk

Old rivals: While George resented Walter initially they have became firm friends over the years

koenig_07
Fame game: While he also starred in Babylon 4 he is still best known for playing Chekov

But trekkies and trekkers alike have never let up on their own commitment to see their idol get his just reward for appearing in the iconic science fiction programme.

Letter writing campaigns, petitions, and even videos have inundated the Walk of Fame committee chairman, and a spokesman noted not one week went by without receiving letters from fans in support of their man.

He was originally cast due to his likeness to the then popular English actor and musician Davy Jones of the Monkees in a bid to attract a younger audience.

His character was controversial at the time, as he was playing a Russian crew member at the height of the Cold War, but he soon became a popular member of the cast.

koenig_08
Oldly going: Walter was fresh faced when he played the then Ensign Chekov in the original series in 1969

koenig_09

Colourful characters: His character was a full fledged navigator by the time 1991's sixth film in the series The Undiscovered Country was released

Between your icon and the youtube screengrab it almost looks like Leonard's trying to shield himself from the sex scene above.

treat this hoe like a blank envelope and don't address him

krycek_chick 11th-Sep-2012 07:23 pm (UTC)
I mmmmight have had a teensy crush on Chekov, even though Bones was my fave. I imagined Chekov and Yeoman Rand as a couple, IDK why.

Babylon *5

I adore Star Trek, but Alfred Bester is my one true love.
hobnailedboots 11th-Sep-2012 07:55 pm (UTC)
omg yes

The Demolished Man > The Stars My Destination imo

I love how he basically smashed two genres (sci-fi and crime procedural) together with fantastic style. And who couldn't love Dishonest Abe lbr
nikkyc2001 11th-Sep-2012 08:04 pm (UTC)
Walter Koenig played a character on Babylon 5 named after Alfred Bester. He's a telepath, so it's a really cool homage and he plays the part to absolute perfection. <3 both Besters.
wingslapped 11th-Sep-2012 08:38 pm (UTC)
IA, I liked him better as Bester.
myrasis 11th-Sep-2012 10:41 pm (UTC)
yeah he was excellent in B5.
yurasama_love 11th-Sep-2012 07:06 pm (UTC)
FUCKING ABOUT TIME. I love him. Also, what is Babylon 4??
Shatner's a douche to all the TOS cast members. Takei really resents him for saying that Takei didn't invite Shatner to his wedding when he totally did and Shatner never replied.
bostongirl2003 11th-Sep-2012 07:12 pm (UTC)
Shatner is a dick. I'd hate him if not for how much he humors the Kirk/Spock shippers.
hobnailedboots 11th-Sep-2012 07:57 pm (UTC)
Idk. Like, Shatner is clearly a big bag of dicks, but then he is sometimes hilarious/awesome too. But Takei and the rest of the cast >>>>>>

tbh, I think the reason I don't know how to feel about this is because I choose to pretend that everyone in the cast is bffs with each other.
yurasama_love 11th-Sep-2012 08:05 pm (UTC)
I never really liked Captain Kirk, so not liking Shatner is fine to me.
Everyone in the cast except Shatner are BFFs, so I acknowledge that.
hazel_belle 11th-Sep-2012 07:10 pm (UTC)
Yaay for him finally getting his star on the Walk of Fame!!

I'm only on the second season, but so far, DS9 > all.
yurasama_love 11th-Sep-2012 07:28 pm (UTC)
I've just started DS9, so they're all still stiff in their characterizations, except Quark.
I love your Chiana icon!
wingslapped 11th-Sep-2012 08:40 pm (UTC)
It gets way better IMO. There are only a few episodes I rewatch from the first season.
executivehpfan 11th-Sep-2012 11:30 pm (UTC)
DS9 slays everything, no fucking lie.

AND you're only on the second season? BB GURL *WAIT*. SHIT IS GONNA GET SO REAL.
suborbital 11th-Sep-2012 11:40 pm (UTC)
DS9 is rather mighty. It gets way better.
lay_of_luthien 12th-Sep-2012 02:40 am (UTC)
D29 is my favorite. It's starts to get really awesome soon. You're in for a treat, Chiana ;)
zootycoonlady 11th-Sep-2012 07:22 pm (UTC)
Can I just say that Nimoy's hair looks fucking awesome? George Takei's Facebook is the best thing ever. Nichelle looks flawfree. Walter still looks babyfaced. Lots of love to this whole crew <3
krycek_chick 11th-Sep-2012 07:25 pm (UTC)
This comment is my everything. It's exactly how I feel, and summed up better than I could have said it!
hobnailedboots 11th-Sep-2012 07:58 pm (UTC)
yessss
executivehpfan 11th-Sep-2012 11:30 pm (UTC)
His hair does look awesome.
xkyrie_eleisonx 11th-Sep-2012 07:23 pm (UTC)
Shatner probably wasn't even invited
xkyrie_eleisonx 11th-Sep-2012 07:25 pm (UTC)
Also I almost went to the convention beforehand because I've never been to a Trek convention but passed because tickets were expensive. Kind of wish I had gone.
yurasama_love 11th-Sep-2012 07:26 pm (UTC)
Even if he was, they all know he won't show up.
williammiller 11th-Sep-2012 07:25 pm (UTC)
It looks like Justin Bieber in about 60 years in the photo before the cut.
davejohn 12th-Sep-2012 12:08 am (UTC)
OMG i see it
atomicdogmeat 11th-Sep-2012 07:27 pm (UTC)
He'll always be Alfred Bester first to me. Babylon 5!
