Star Trek 2 Gets a Title

Tomorrow, September 8th, marks the 46th anniversary of Gene Roddenberry's "Star Trek", but SuperHero Hype is celebrating a little early with a juicy rumor to share. We've been been told that the 2013 J.J. Abrams sequel has chosen a title and will hit theaters as Star Trek Into Darkness.


Although we have not yet been able to officially confirm said title, the domain names www.startrekintodarkness.com and www.startrekintodarknessmovie were both registered yesterday through Markmonitor, an anonymous domain registry service that just so happens to have been utilized by Paramount Pictures for recent URLs like their official G.I. Joe: Retaliation site.

Interesting. I can't think of anything immediately linking it to a classic Trek episode atm, but that could be because they're being more original than we give them credit for. Can't help but be reminded of this though.

i liked the first movie. it kept me entertained. and i say this as someone who has zero knowledge of star trek. i'll go to any movie to get a little more simon pegg.

When I see that title I automatically think of Space Seed. TOS will always be my favorite but I really like this new rendition.

No reason in particular, the two titles just give me the same imagery. From what I remember, Space Seed was TOS's first dark episode.

I am eternally grateful for Space Seed and the fact that it resulted in the greatest movie of all time: The Wrath of Khan.

(so good, I even used it in my Master's thesis)

I submitted it at like 3 am EST though, and I originally had the title wrong (with a colon) and learned afterward that the title was indeed confirmed and not just a rumor. So I had to wait and wait to be able to edit the post.

I want Uhura/Spock to break up because I adored Uhura/Scotty. I was hoping with the reboot it would go to that couple. ;[ I loved that towards the end of the older movies it was there. Random OTP is random but I still love them.

I know, I think it's because at first they said it would be out in 2011 and right after the first one, they were like, we're working on a script and it seemed like they were going to get on it fast and then they were like, jk, no early 2012 and then late 2012 and now it's 2013. It's not really that unhear of for four years in between films, but they just kept drawing it out to the point where I'm nowhere near as excited as I was even a year ago.
