A show which promises to a Britpop version of Glee is set to be broadcast on BBC Radio Two later this month.
Shout To The Top has been co-written by Louise Wener, former frontwoman of Sleeper, alongside ex-Farm drummer Roy Boulter.
Music Week reports that the show is the brainchild of Radio 2 and 6Music playlist boss Jeff Smith, who has described it as: "Glee for an older audience."
The 60 minute pilot for the show will be broadcast on September 25 and features an all-female band played by Hannah Arterton, Fiona Macrae and Samantha Robinson. Shane Ritchie also appears in the show. Smith hopes to extend the show to a six-part series. Of the show's plot he says:
"My conceit was that bands such as Lush and Elastica [pictured above] never really achieved the promise people thought they would - but then, later on, bands like Coldplay became world famous acts, built, arguably, on Britpop. The band in the drama become as big as Coldplay, and [the show] is the story behind their success."
The show will feature two brand new songs as well as Eurythmics’ 'Sweet Dreams' and Prefab Sprout's 'When Love Breaks Down', as well as two original compositions.
