Hollywood is mourning the death of Michael Clarke Duncan, the Oscar-nominated actor who died Monday morning in Los Angeles.
Duncan, best known for his role in The Green Mile, suffered a myocardial infarction on July 13 and never fully recovered, his publicist told The Hollywood Reporter. Duncan, who was engaged to reality star Omarosa Manigault, most recently starred in Fox's The Finder, a Bones spinoff.

Blessed to have had the opportunity to work with Michael Clarke Duncan while he was still with us. He was a kind soul that will be missed.

Statements from Tom Hanks and Frank Darabont (director of Green Mile)

“I am terribly saddened at the loss of Big Mike,” the 56-year-old actor told ET. “He was the treasure we all discovered on the set of The Green Mile. He was magic. He was a big love of man and his passing leaves us stunned.” - Tom Hanks

“He was one of the finest people I’ve ever had the privilege to work with or know. Michael was the gentlest of souls -- an exemplar of decency, integrity and kindness. The sadness I feel is inexpressible. Our experience making The Green Mile together was immersive and incredible, a once-in-a-lifetime journey. What sticks most in my mind was his devotion to his craft and the strides he made as an artist during that time, which was beyond inspiring to those of us who took the journey with him. Never has an actor more richly deserved the recognition of an Academy Award nomination than Michael did for his performance as John Coffey. Michael has left us far, far too soon. We lost a great man and a great spirit today. My thoughts and condolences go out to his fiancée, Omarosa, and to his family."
-Frank Darabont

Still so sad :(

ronnie_luvs_u 4th-Sep-2012 04:50 pm (UTC)
Celeb RIP tweets are like FB birthday messages to me. They don't really feel sincere.

His passing is so sad. He was too young to die of a heart attack! His poor fiancee.
crystalzelda 4th-Sep-2012 04:55 pm (UTC)
I guess it's hard to feel sincere and heartfelt in 140 characters. It's generally going to sound pretty stilted.
ronnie_luvs_u 4th-Sep-2012 04:59 pm (UTC)
That's true. Statements are always so much better, probably because people can elaborate more.
la_petite_singe 4th-Sep-2012 05:40 pm (UTC)
Some of them really don't to me, like when they're just the generic "RIP, gone too soon" or whatever, but a lot of these seem really sweet & personal, especially since so many are from people who worked with him. :\
treebraids 4th-Sep-2012 07:12 pm (UTC)
I agree. but, I like that a lot of these seem personal as opposed to just "RIP" or "I liked him in that film".
harmlessbondage 4th-Sep-2012 11:35 pm (UTC)
i feel the same. something about using social media to give condolences also feels cheap and attention-craving, like you care more that people know you are "grieving" than tastefully giving condolences to the bereaved.
ponpiri 4th-Sep-2012 04:50 pm (UTC)
lol @ him knowing what kneading was.
eaglefan2011 4th-Sep-2012 04:51 pm (UTC)

RIP big man
zootycoonlady 4th-Sep-2012 04:56 pm (UTC)
Wow, it seems by all accounts he was an upstanding gentleman. Which makes this doubly sad. :( Reading some of those anecdotes brought a tear to my eye. :( He was so young. It's always the good ones.
anus 4th-Sep-2012 04:56 pm (UTC)
omg he's so cute in that video.
mandramoddle 4th-Sep-2012 04:56 pm (UTC)

chaquitalicia04 4th-Sep-2012 04:57 pm (UTC)

I loved him in Armageddon, too.
