Can Watching “Buffy” Make Men Less Sexist?
A new study shows that it might — and watching shows with strong female characters, even in bad situations, could help women too.

The rise of violent female heroines in TV and film — like Snow White of Snow White and the Huntsman, Lisbeth Salander of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and of course, Katniss Everdeen — have sparked a lot of debate in the past year or two. Some laud the swashbuckling women characters and others are "leery" of how these roles "fetishize hyper-violent women." But a recent study shows that strong women in otherwise violent TV shows might make men feel better about women — and women feel better about life.

LOL at least include more than one paragraph.
i read the comment, looked at the username, and went: "...oh."
as was avengers tbh, although not in the same vein.
Firefly. I rest my case.
cordelia on the other hand...
Whedon is some kind of "visionary" or "revolutionary" because his female characters are real people with multi-faceted personalities and hopes and dreams outside of marriage and babies. They're never basic, twee or one-note and if they are -- like Harmony or Cordelia -- he takes that and flips it on its head later on.
He's only a "feminist" in that he treats his female and male characters equally when it comes to development. And, again, I think it's more that he's just not actively sexist the way most writer/directors are.
That's one of the reasons I loved Thor as well, and I don't think Branagh got enough credit for how wonderfully un-sexualized Jane, Darcy and Sif were. They were characters -- never pieces of meat. And it's extraordinary that we have to treat that as an achievement.
I am sad it took so long for this comment to appear.
I was in PR intern at my University's Women's Studies Department and a couple times a semester professors would come in and inform the whole office that they got another~ Buffy is the responsible for the feminist movement~ paper. And tbh she is. All of it.
and i would sit back and watch bc lol womanism is better anyway
