'Dance Moms' Recap: New Diva Mom Shakes Things Up

Abby Lee takes another risk this week and goes a little nutty both in her choreography and with her competition team. The theme of their latest routine is 'asylum' and the girls have to act like they are patients of a mental hospital ... although I guess this should be pretty easy considering the dance teacher they see every day. If this weren't a challenge enough for a group of 8-13 year olds, Abby goes mental herself when she invites a completely new girl to dance with the team. Has this EVER happened? Not without weeks of probation and threats it hasn't. What's gotten into Abby? Has she changed her ways? Will the new girl fit in with the others? Let's jump right into tonight's episode and find out!

She's Got 'Divatude'

Yes -- you heard that right, 'divatude' is the word brought to us by Abby Lee's newest dance mom and daughter. Kaya is one major diva of a dance mom, and she definitely isn't backing down to the other moms or to Abby. I'm actually shocked that she had the nerve to walk into the studio and almost demand that her daughter be part of the dance team. Has she ever watched this show? It's next to impossible to demand anything from Abby, so it really shows the guts that this new mom has. And not to sound like a snotty dance diva, but I happen to agree that Nikaya should have the knowledge that the other girls do about dance terminology and acrobatic skills. I'm not sure I'm digging this new mom's 'divatude' and after all, Abby has standards, and so far the new girl really isn't stacking up.

Paige v. Nikaya -- Who Will Compete in LA?

Once again Kelly blows up and storms out of the studio, but this time it's understandable. Abby keeps switching back and forth between Paige and Nikaya for the group number, and she waits until the very last second to let the moms and girls know who exactly will be in the routine. I have to say, if I flew all the way to LA just to be told I MIGHT be in a dance number, I'd be pissed too. While running the number over and over in the dressing room, Abby finally decides to let both girls be part of the group dance, but I can't say that I'm satisfied with this decision. A small part of me wants this new girl to work for her spot on the team just like the others have done in the past, and this all seemed a little too easy for them. I just hope that we don't see her on the pyramid next week, especially considering Kendall is still working her butt off just to make it to the bottom of the pyramid.

And the Winners Are...

The ALDC! Their off-beat routine must have impressed the judges because they pulled off a first place win. The same can't be said for this week's soloists, but at least Abby's group number showed up the California competition. It wouldn't be an episode of Dance Moms if it didn't end with a big blowout, and this week is no different. Kaya decides to stir up trouble with every other mom, and she has the mouth to back it up. I don't think we've heard this much swearing ever on the show, so it should be interesting if this one sticks around.

Next week Brooke records a song (Did anyone know she sang?), and the girls look like they will be her back up singers and dancers. What do you think of tonight's episode? Do you like the new mom and daughter? Did you like Abby's asylum number? Leave your comments and come back next week for your Dance Moms drama!

All I can focus on is that she is fucking caked in makeup.
r4wrdinosaur 29th-Aug-2012 07:55 pm (UTC)
And the ugly ass flower in her hair.
pinkfunraven 30th-Aug-2012 12:51 am (UTC)
Ikr, obvs her skin hates the makeup too! I just want to give her some St. Ives or Neutrogena for her clogged pores.

i really hate how the moms treated her. She seems like a pretty good dance mom because she was willing to help her kid learn the dance terminology even thought she didn't care about it. The moms just attacked her and i don't see what she did wrong yet. She showed up to try out the ALDC after going to a recital that was there to recruit dancers and then she had the potential to be recruited. idg the fuss.
hera_bearrra 29th-Aug-2012 08:08 pm (UTC)
The moms are catty and they can't handle anyone else joining the team
kstan 29th-Aug-2012 10:02 pm (UTC)
Agreed. However, if I recall, the first thing she did after introducing herself was insult all the dancers, and by association, their mothers.
rayofblacklight 30th-Aug-2012 12:32 am (UTC)
YEP, she did. I don't think the other moms were very nice but she definitely didn't help herself by starting out like that.
williammiller 30th-Aug-2012 06:44 am (UTC)
The other moms were rude to her, but she came in like she was going to get a spot on the team that night. Abby is a stickler for the proper dance terms and the spelling and her child clearly didn't know it and she acted liked like it wasn't a big deal. Her daughter cant't even do any gymnastics so she was pretty much useless to the team. IDK, she went about it the wrong way.
r4wrdinosaur 29th-Aug-2012 07:55 pm (UTC)
A small part of me wants this new girl to work for her spot on the team just like the others have done in the past

Wtfever. All the moms and daughters were casted by Lifetime. Duh.
ecctv 29th-Aug-2012 07:57 pm (UTC)
The moms were completely ridiculous last night. (Although proudly being Patsey Ramsey is a bit odd.) I know they felt threatened, but they should look at it that if this girl is good she can help them win titles. Abby hasn't kicked anyone off the team really before, so they shouldn't be worried.

And Nia totally deserved better than 10th place, she did SO well. She's grown so much in the series.
r4wrdinosaur 29th-Aug-2012 07:58 pm (UTC)
Nia is my favorite. She works so hard, and seems to care so much about Abby's approval. I'm glad to see she's working on her swayback. It was driving me crazy!! One of my friends was swayback in COLLEGE and I was like guuuuurl didn't you have someone to help you with that when you were 9?!
berry_wish 29th-Aug-2012 08:34 pm (UTC)
I was so excited that she got the most improved award at the recital. She seems to be getting more recognition from Abby now.
r4wrdinosaur 29th-Aug-2012 07:57 pm (UTC)
Also, I can't stand people who curse in front of their kids and this new mom seems to do at a lot. It's not the end of the world when a parent does it out of anger, frustration or pain, but this new mom was just letting curse words roll out of her mouth so casually in front of her daughter.
lumosofmylife 29th-Aug-2012 07:58 pm (UTC)
She was really rude from the get-go, even before the other moms started in on her.

I used to teach ballet and some of the mothers were assholes.....I had several who would dump their kids off even if said kid was sick, running a fever, etc. The worst was one day, a mom did this and the little girl was in my arms because she could barely walk and as I was claling her wretched mother back to come get her, she threw up all over me. Then started bawling because she was so embarassed...I felt so bad for her :(

And some of hte fathers were such pervs - did nothing but stare at us in our leotards. God, no wonder they have reality shows off this stuff.
tigirah 29th-Aug-2012 08:11 pm (UTC)
ugh I am trying to stream this right now but it's taking forever to load, anyone find a good Putlocker link for it?
andbless_mybaby 29th-Aug-2012 08:20 pm (UTC)
I wanted to fall through the floor and die of secondhand embarrassment when Kendall made the LaQueefa (sp?) joke. I still am not sure who it was aimed at, but it was still awful.
williammiller 29th-Aug-2012 08:28 pm (UTC)
I must have missed that? What did she say? Nia danced to the LaQueefa song so maybe that's what she was referring to?
andbless_mybaby 29th-Aug-2012 08:36 pm (UTC)
She was like, "oh, maybe we should call you LaQueefa!" I am pretty sure she meant Nia, but the timing was awkward with Kaya and Nicaya having just come in, and it wasn't super appropriate anyway. idk. The editing probably made it look worse than it was.
williammiller 29th-Aug-2012 08:36 pm (UTC)
Oh yikes! I definitely missed that.
karis_azura 29th-Aug-2012 09:01 pm (UTC)
Oh god, I remember thinking - W T F ? If I were the newbie's mom, I would have gone postal on that little brat.
butt_or_skotch 29th-Aug-2012 09:02 pm (UTC)
I thought she was talking to Nia. My guess was that since the new girl said "My nickname is NiNi," maybe that was Nia's nickname as well?

So when Kendall said that to Nia she was saying that as a way to differentiate between the two girls names since they share a nickname/their names are so similar.

But yeah I agree, it was a VERY cringe-worthy moment.

It was aimed at Nia but the timing was super awkward.
amandaplan 29th-Aug-2012 09:36 pm (UTC)
yeah i couldn't make out who it was aimed at but that was a horrible moment.
lindsey11387 29th-Aug-2012 11:47 pm (UTC)
Nia has done two "LaQueefa" dances, so that's where the nickname came from. It was a bit awkward, but not as bad as it may have seemed.
sharemygrief 29th-Aug-2012 09:05 pm (UTC)
she was too much and looked like tempestt bledsoe, another shrew.
msloserrific 29th-Aug-2012 09:06 pm (UTC)
lmao i came in the post to say i thought that was tempestt
pinkfunraven 30th-Aug-2012 12:55 am (UTC)
Right? I don't watch this show, but when I saw the screenshot I just thought it was Tempestt with a walk-on spot.
borrowasmile 29th-Aug-2012 09:14 pm (UTC)
I loved the part where Brooke and Paige were singing Brooke's song together. At least there wasn't any yelling during that part.
_______awshucks 29th-Aug-2012 09:22 pm (UTC)
A lot of the fights are probably instigated and staged but this just wreaked of fake. You know they brought them in on purpose just for the drama.
jearsforqueers 29th-Aug-2012 10:34 pm (UTC)
i fucking fell asleep during last weeks re-run and missed it! goddamn it!
kimberlli_jv 29th-Aug-2012 10:35 pm (UTC)
The new mom was rude as fuck and she was so ratchet. She dissed their kids, their studio and she just wanted her kid to walk on the team. Then when she tried to come at Holly for not having her back because they were "sistas" and Holly went off on her in a classy way for that fuckery.

I don't like her, but I'd love to see her defect to Candy Apples.
rayofblacklight 30th-Aug-2012 12:30 am (UTC)
Yeah I was thinking she was rude. The current moms weren't very nice to her but she definitely didn't help herself by walking upstairs and the first thing out of her mouth saying she thought the recital sucked and the girls have no personality. I can also understand their frustration and outrage that some new girl who gets to walk on to the team their daughters have been working on for awhile.
xgirldc 30th-Aug-2012 07:27 am (UTC)
Holly is remarkably classy when she deals with the crazy. Its impressive. Sometimes I'm not sure what she is doing on this show. Nia is amazing and I'm so proud at how far she has come in her dancing.
h0tfuss 29th-Aug-2012 11:22 pm (UTC)
"The music has no rhythm, so the girls start crawling on the floor and punching themselves in the head and I was like, okay, be the best that you can be!"

Christi's a bitch but I love her. That was the best line of the night.

I love Christi.

xcollsangelx 30th-Aug-2012 04:06 am (UTC)
This new mom is god awful.

emmacate 30th-Aug-2012 06:54 am (UTC)
I almost died when Kendall made that LaQueefa comment.
narco_chan 12th-Sep-2012 04:25 am (UTC)
QUEEN HOLLY omg. she held her self so well when it came to being "sistas"
