TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Besides the serious business of nominating the next president and vice president of the United States, there will also be plenty of quality entertainment at the 2012 Republican National Convention, organizers promised today.

"We've booked outstanding performers and world-famous acts," said Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, who today announced the entertainers who will be on hand. "The convention attendees will be treated to special performances they will remember for a very long time."

Performers will cover the spectrum of music genres, Priebus said, "Everything from pop and rock to country and gospel."

The performance lineup will feature an exclusive, worldwide premiere of "One Light," a new single from the Grammy award-winning rock band, 3 Doors Down. The group has sold more than 20 million recordings since its 2000 debut.

"We are honored to be asked to play the RNC and are excited about our performance," said Brad Arnold, lead singer of 3 Doors Down. "We consider it a privilege."

Other performers include Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Oak Ridge Boys, Neal Boyd, Randy Owens, Jack Blades of Night Ranger, Taylor Hicks and BeBe Winans.

I can't even imagine the racist hate that's going to be thrown around. My dad's family is from there and every time we visit, I have to "play nice" with their ultra-conservative bigotry.

My aunt already called my dad to complain about my facebook status last week: "I can’t help but look at this terrible weather we’ve been having and take it as a sign. The Republicans are coming…"

BTW, I'm 24.

vonlisbon 25th-Aug-2012 08:28 pm (UTC)
They're both in swing states that generally lean Rep but went Dem last year ELECTION lol typo. The Reps want FL like hell this year and the Dems don't want to lose precious NC.

I pushed all Dr appointments and other reasons to leave the house to the first week of September. I'm considering making an emergency run to the store to pick up staples and bottled water.

And not 'cause of the storm...

goldynchickie 25th-Aug-2012 08:50 pm (UTC)
Ikr? I just moved to Tampa and now I have to deal with them and the hurricane
karis_azura 25th-Aug-2012 09:58 pm (UTC)
Girl, someone sent me this, saying its right outside the convention center where the GOP will be...I didn't know if it was real or photoshopped. If its real, I'm totes moving to Tampa one day, y'all are awesome.

deargirl 26th-Aug-2012 02:52 am (UTC)
I saw a van today from Maryland that said "Honk if you love freedom" or something near International Mall today. It was written on the windows with puffy paint or something lmao.

I'm hoping it won't affect me getting to work. I work near Hyde Park but its in the other direction of downtown so I don't think I'll be too affected. I just hope Kennedy won't be too backed up. Otherwise I don't live super close to downtown or South Tampa so I don't think it'll affect my life that much.

halfdressedliar 25th-Aug-2012 05:49 pm (UTC)
I read the other day that Paul Ryan is one of those creepy fuckers that believes if a man rapes someone and it produces a child then the rapist should have access/legal rights to the child.

I nearly vomited.
cricketgrl 25th-Aug-2012 06:16 pm (UTC)
Not shocking at all, so many Dems are so glad Mittens picked him as a running mate because Biden will wipe the floor and walls with him.
menageohthree 25th-Aug-2012 07:08 pm (UTC)
What republicans don't share his views? Todd Akin was just dumb enough to say that shit out loud.
foxylov3r 25th-Aug-2012 07:18 pm (UTC)
Paul Ryan also believes that women who get abortions should be arrested
nicolaroberts 25th-Aug-2012 04:33 pm (UTC)
they'd better hope that hurricane hits during the convention because it would literally be the most relevant thing in attendance
angelmonster 25th-Aug-2012 04:40 pm (UTC)

ia but "tacky and unnecessary" w/ a lochte icon? hilarious
dancedallnight 25th-Aug-2012 04:41 pm (UTC)
yes because doing silly things like wearing a grill or sunglasses with your name is on par with trivializing rape to make a joke/point. rmfe
mandramoddle 25th-Aug-2012 04:38 pm (UTC)

lol at this comment and the one above it
forgethissmile 25th-Aug-2012 05:40 pm (UTC)
Amen to that

Yeah it's a bit ... raw ... but so is the Republicans essentially trying to decriminalize rape (unless it's Whoopi Goldberg-style "RAPE rape") in order to ban all abortions.
arabian 25th-Aug-2012 11:10 pm (UTC)

Yes, so let's just label all republicans as rapists. Let's just trivialize (yet again) a violent, vicious act. Let's minimize a heinous crime just so we can make a pun. Let's stoop to their level of ignorance and pettiness to show them how we are better.

Gotta love political logic.

bollyhood 25th-Aug-2012 04:48 pm (UTC)
Not with Paul Ryan as the vice president nominee its not.
cricketgrl 25th-Aug-2012 06:24 pm (UTC)
My Auntie (a strict conservative) is now voting Obama because of Akin and Judge Head's equally sick remarks.
