Dragon Age 3 future outlined in leaked internal surveys

Along with a Dragon Age 3 logo and concept art, users have also detailed the who, what, where, when and whys of BioWare's eagerly-anticipated third entry. According the the posts the game will take place at a time where Orlais, the affluent nation in Thedas, is being torn apart by a civil war.

"The great nation of Orlais, the most powerful empire in Dragon Age, tears itself apart in civil war," reads a plot summary posted on NeoGAF.

"The stout men and women of Ferelden struggle to recover and reclaim their nation from the horde of vile Darkspawn that lay waste to its lands a decade ago.

"The Chantry, the once-unified faith of the Dragon Age world stands divided. The Templar order has broken away, claiming the church has become too lax in policing the dangerous powers o the mages. The Mage circles have rebelled, believing the Templars have become too strict, too zealous in their duties, and too quick to slaughter those who step out of line.

"The world of Dragon Age is one on the brink of collapse, and when a desperate gathering in the name of peace becomes the epicentre of a magical blast that decimates the Chantry's leadership, it becomes clear that someone or something is manipulating events to drive the world into chaos.

"From the ashes of that explosion, something new rises: The Inquisition. As the Inquisitor, it falls to you to build up your power and martial your forces, uncover secrets and build connections across the world. You must explore forgotten spaces, uncover ancient mysteries and uproot those who would destroy the fabric of the world."

A second German survey has also been transcribed and translated, it provides a broader overview of the rumoured Dragon Age 3 plot.

"A portal between the worlds unleashes hords of demons in the land, civil wars rip apart nations and the corruption is limitless. Someone is behind the shadows, drawing the threads which destroy the world. Time has come for the Inquisition.

"Take the Inquisitor's cloak and lead the only force able of bringing light into the darkness. Choose the direct method and gather your armies, send spies into the shadows or engage in a political war, make friends and use your connections indirectly: it is up to you how you lead the inquisition. But you'll have to take lead of it from the beginning.

"Make your player a rogue, warrior or mage and set up your crew from up to ten (!) complex companions to lead them against those who attack you by systematically spying on, revealing and destroying them."

Survey participants are supposedly being asked to pick a potential subtitle for the threequel, the options include 'The Breach', 'Exarch', 'Inquisition', 'Inquisitor' and 'Apocrypha'.

Take a look at concept character designs below.

IDGAF if Dragon Age 2 sucked. This is their chance to redeem themselves by making this fun. Can't wait to see Morrigan. You should read Dragon Age: Asunder if you haven't already, cuz you know...Wynne and all. Don't even bring up Mass Effect because I could care less. They seem to have fixed that issue...slightly.

I just got DA:O and played literally ten minutes before I was like - I hate this, why did I buy this...
myrasis 25th-Aug-2012 03:00 am (UTC)
tbh, i did this too, but then i played mass effect and loved it so i gave DAO another chance and i liked it waaaay more.
littlehayzay 25th-Aug-2012 03:03 am (UTC)
I loved Mass Effect which is why I figured, OK I'll try DA:O, nope. I tried like five times to get into it but it was just so boring to me.
lovedforaday 25th-Aug-2012 03:07 am (UTC)
Dragon Age: Origin is about the most boring thing I've ever experienced, omg.
sergeantquakers 25th-Aug-2012 03:36 am (UTC)
It takes a little bit of time to get into it but once you get to the good parts it's REALLY good. The main thing that bothered me about DA:O was that there would be long stretches of the worst gaming experience possible. For example, THE FADE. Getting rid of The Fade was the only good thing to come out of DA2.
voyevoda 25th-Aug-2012 04:25 am (UTC)
There was very little I liked about it.

Like, I played all the way to the end boss with a character I detested, literally went "Fuck this" and nuked that save file, replayed on a character I liked a bit more....but even then, the game is shit brown on shit brown with a vague story smeared over it all. :C It's like...something I normally would like, with characters I liked, but the execution was awful.
miakun 25th-Aug-2012 05:50 am (UTC)
The story is really good, but the gameplay is fucking atrocious.
sessile29 25th-Aug-2012 06:47 am (UTC)
DA:O's story is boring as fuck. I've gotten all the way to the last act/stage/whatever and I have yet to finish it because it's like, I don't fucking careeeeeeee. Gameplay doesn't even bother me that much, but a fucking boring-ass story I cannot stand.

DAII, otoh... 8D People have so many problems with me, but the story is fucking tits.
larastone 25th-Aug-2012 02:59 am (UTC)
i've lost hope after da2 and me3 rip
shukivengeance 25th-Aug-2012 03:34 am (UTC)
Basically this. Enough balls have been dropped by Bioware to make me give this a pass (at least until it gets hammered by angry fanboy reviews and drops vastly in price)
tylergrrls 25th-Aug-2012 04:02 am (UTC)
Gurl. *cry*
destroyedatsea 25th-Aug-2012 06:48 am (UTC)
Bioware have some of the worst writers ever.
vanillakokakola 25th-Aug-2012 07:44 am (UTC)
and yet they HAD some great ones, what happened :(
whysoseriousbb 25th-Aug-2012 11:21 am (UTC)
lol pretty much
littlepunkryo 25th-Aug-2012 03:01 am (UTC)
I loved the shit out of DA2, idegaf. It was more fun than DA:O for me even though I love both. I doubt we're seeing Morrigan anytime soon tho. I want to see Varric back :'(
finchburg 25th-Aug-2012 03:18 am (UTC)
Same here he was my Hawke's bff I hope he returns and unf that voice.
leperheart 25th-Aug-2012 03:58 am (UTC)
same. plus, default m!hawke is fucking hot.
vanillakokakola 25th-Aug-2012 07:44 am (UTC)
so is femhawke tbh
miakun 25th-Aug-2012 05:51 am (UTC)
I seriously don't even freaking understand the DA2 haterade.
sessile29 25th-Aug-2012 06:49 am (UTC)
I'm in the middle of replaying DAII right now. Still got a little choked up at All That Remains, lol.

Varric has to come back. He just has to. :(
ahzuri 25th-Aug-2012 08:06 am (UTC)
Worst part about DA2 was that I couldn't romance Varric.
oddityangel 25th-Aug-2012 09:48 am (UTC)
I loved DA2 as well. I was especially fond of how close the group of companions felt, like they were actually friends rather than just a group of people travelling together. The game is seriously flawed, but I've played five Hawkes and am contemplating a sixth, so there's enough there to keep me happy and interested.
beoweasel 25th-Aug-2012 09:59 am (UTC)
I really enjoyed DA2 as well.
brown_suger 25th-Aug-2012 01:08 pm (UTC)
i need to love on varric
opera_darling 25th-Aug-2012 03:01 am (UTC)
No matter how much I complain about Bioware, I know I will play the fuck out of this game. I am the worst kind of pushover (not fucking with ME3 DLC tho).
akscully 25th-Aug-2012 03:01 am (UTC)
If they bring back that fucking cave map, even as a joke, I'm setting fire to their headquarters.

it becomes clear that someone or something is manipulating events to drive the world into chaos.

Yes, and her name is Flemeth/Andraste.

I will admit that the idea of being able to just sit back and send out spies and get my Varys on is intriguing.
chikntetrazzini 25th-Aug-2012 03:03 am (UTC)
I would love to have a non-combat option.
akscully 25th-Aug-2012 03:11 am (UTC)
I think that would be interesting but lbr, there's going to be a final boss fight and how would that go if you're a spymaster?
beggargirl 25th-Aug-2012 03:54 am (UTC)
I will be beside you with the gasoline. That map made me rage.
mutterby 25th-Aug-2012 10:05 am (UTC)
good news, they said no more copy paste environments
moonstrucky 26th-Aug-2012 01:32 am (UTC)
This Flemeth/Andraste idea has me like, yelling. I want to tell my husband but he might kill me.
chikntetrazzini 25th-Aug-2012 03:01 am (UTC)
All I want is to play one of my characters from DA or DA2 and to not have setting layouts repeated over and over. Also, I would like to have at least one likable character.

Please and thanks.
diamond_dust06 25th-Aug-2012 03:05 am (UTC)
I hope the love interests aren't all whiny unlovable bitches like in DA2.
akscully 25th-Aug-2012 03:07 am (UTC)
But Anders would drown the world in blood for you!!! Isn't it ROMANTIC?
wonderwomanhero 25th-Aug-2012 03:09 am (UTC)
lol
lafemmedarla 25th-Aug-2012 03:29 am (UTC)
I tried flirting with Anders. When he gave me that line I was pretty much

latexandleather 25th-Aug-2012 03:31 am (UTC)
ugh i romanced anders and in the end he was the only one who stayed :')
i hope he doesn't murder me :')
miakun 25th-Aug-2012 05:53 am (UTC)
Should have just got him a cat, solved all our problems.
ahzuri 25th-Aug-2012 08:09 am (UTC)
Oh Anders that bastard my jaw dropped to the ground at the end of DA2 because of his shenanigans.
browniecakemix 25th-Aug-2012 03:48 am (UTC)
Isabela wasn't bad tho
kris_terror 25th-Aug-2012 04:06 am (UTC)
excuse you, I fucking loved angsty broody Fenris.
miakun 25th-Aug-2012 05:52 am (UTC)
EXCUSE YOU.
frootums 25th-Aug-2012 10:04 am (UTC)
Haha, pretty much. It's more enjoyable to NOT romance anyone in that game. Same feels for Mass Effect 1. Ugh.
cutesiness 25th-Aug-2012 10:09 am (UTC)
sebastian was such a tease
ch33rylips 25th-Aug-2012 03:05 am (UTC)

missjersey 25th-Aug-2012 03:08 am (UTC)
Is this that game with the weird sex scenes?
wonderwomanhero 25th-Aug-2012 03:09 am (UTC)
Yup. This and Mass Effect both have weird sex scenes. However whenever they are posted here they get like a bazillion comments for some reason.
missjersey 25th-Aug-2012 03:26 am (UTC)
Lol I'm watching some of the Mass Effect ones. Why do they have these scenes in videogames it looks so wonky.
voyevoda 25th-Aug-2012 04:28 am (UTC)
You know, I like the ME sex scenes.....except Bioware seems to think that on-screen fucking needs to be accompanied by epic orchestral music, no matter the setting, and it always cuts off abruptly to a loading screen.

Stop that, Bioware.
myrasis 25th-Aug-2012 03:14 am (UTC)

(this is modded, but still)
miakun 25th-Aug-2012 05:53 am (UTC)
DA:O's sex scenes are a little... worse out of context (they work when you're like in the game, but watching them later, I am like what are you smoking) the DA2 ones are good in my opinion.
myrasis 25th-Aug-2012 03:11 am (UTC)
i bet it'll be coming out 2013-2014, because they just don't learn. by that i mean EA, before anybody says the deadlines for release aren't something bioware controls, i know that. the best thing they could do right now is lie low, release some info at the cons and polish it to a valve-like shine. that's all i want :(
kurtvonnegut 25th-Aug-2012 03:15 am (UTC)
lol has anyone else been friended by this thing

angelmonster 25th-Aug-2012 03:16 am (UTC)
Someone should post where we can read the dragon age novels for free. Just saying.
larastone 25th-Aug-2012 03:19 am (UTC)
idc abt alistair when i'm not fucking my way to queen tho
latexandleather 25th-Aug-2012 03:23 am (UTC)
i really loved DA2 the first time around but my god it is not a game you can replay
latexandleather 25th-Aug-2012 03:25 am (UTC)
+ there's only so many times i can bear to be teased by varric's chest hair being so close yet so unromancable
tylergrrls 25th-Aug-2012 04:05 am (UTC)
I weep salt tears every time they wave fucking Anders at me. Like, fuck that. Varric is the hot one.
fruitchews 25th-Aug-2012 03:45 am (UTC)
I agree completely. The first time playing was really fun but then trying to play the second time was just boring as hell. Even when I was killing everyone, the quests stayed the same. zzzzzz.
browniecakemix 25th-Aug-2012 03:52 am (UTC)
Really? Wow, I totally disagree. I love replaying DA2--more so than DA:O, actually. While DA:O has the better story, DA2 moves more quickly and has better gameplay imo.
miakun 25th-Aug-2012 05:55 am (UTC)
Really? I'm on my second playthrough and planning my third and fourth already. The different styles of characters "diplomatic, sassy, judgey" really make it varied for me~ It's been about as much fun as ME2 to replay (not including the gameplay itself, which is decent, but FPS are more fun on the PC).
sessile29 25th-Aug-2012 06:53 am (UTC)
i think you've got to give it time

i tried replaying immediately after my first and yeah, it was kinda too familiar

i'm replaying it right now after having not touched it since mark of the assassin came out. i have a totally different hawke headcanon, so characters that were my bros, i'm now like GTFO, lol
littlehayzay 25th-Aug-2012 03:25 am (UTC)
looking for more games to play, so what are some other games that you love and would recommend?
dirrtypony 25th-Aug-2012 03:39 am (UTC)
i really enjoyed the fable games.
ahzuri 25th-Aug-2012 08:14 am (UTC)
Games like this or random other games. If you want to scare the shit out of yourself I recommend Amnesia if not maybe Bastion?
littlehayzay 25th-Aug-2012 09:16 am (UTC)
I'm an infant when it comes to scary games. I think I scarred myself for life with The 7th Guest and that creepy skeleton hand pointer, lol.

I've been wanting to play Amnesia, Bioshock/2, and something else that I can't remember, but I'm chicken lol.
i_like_neon_ice 25th-Aug-2012 03:25 am (UTC)
