PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Sometimes a role in a movie can change an actor's whole career. Sometimes it can change a life. That's what happened to Geena Davis when she costarred in A League of Their Own and learned to play baseball.
"It had a massive impact on me because growing up I was tall and gangly, and I didn't want to try sports because I was too physically embarrassed," she says over breadsticks and iced tea in a pizzeria here.

A League Of Their Own is such a wonderful film, although Lori Petty's character Kit does detract from my enjoyment a little. Boy, is her character ever insufferable at times. That said, the movie never fails to move me. I still tear up every time Betty "Spaghetti" receives the news that her husband was killed in action.
Geena Davis is lovely :)

I start to tear up anytime I think about Betty saying "George, no!" and I'm crying now. Saddest scene :(
ARCHER QUEEN
Best quote from ALOTO? hahaha
We're the members of the all american league, we come from cities near and far. We've got Canadians, Irish ones and Swedes, we're all for one, we're one for all, we're all American. Each girl holds her head so proudly high, her motto do or die, we're not the kind to need or use an alibi...
i'm not as old as her, but i've only really become physically active in the last few years and i totally agree with this. i was hopelessly weak and uncoordinated as a kid and rather than being encouraged to play sports etc to develop some skills, i was discouraged from trying anything :/ now that i'm independently trying stuff (mostly cycling but also running, soccer) it's amazing to learn about this whole new side of myself.
