Actress, Archer, and Feminist Icon Geena Davis on her life so far and roles for women in Hollywood

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Sometimes a role in a movie can change an actor's whole career. Sometimes it can change a life. That's what happened to Geena Davis when she costarred in A League of Their Own and learned to play baseball.

"It had a massive impact on me because growing up I was tall and gangly, and I didn't want to try sports because I was too physically embarrassed," she says over breadsticks and iced tea in a pizzeria here.

A League Of Their Own is such a wonderful film, although Lori Petty's character Kit does detract from my enjoyment a little. Boy, is her character ever insufferable at times. That said, the movie never fails to move me. I still tear up every time Betty "Spaghetti" receives the news that her husband was killed in action.

Geena Davis is lovely :)

I feel like Kit being so annoying helps her feel like a ~real little sister lol.

As an only child I've thankfully never had to experience that sort of thing firsthand.

I loved Kit. I am the youngest in my family and was always compared to my siblings and was seemingly never good enough, so I always identified with Kit.

I start to tear up anytime I think about Betty saying "George, no!" and I'm crying now. Saddest scene :(

Was excited for Coma already, but more so because Geena's in it.

I love the song they do.

We're the members of the all american league, we come from cities near and far. We've got Canadians, Irish ones and Swedes, we're all for one, we're one for all, we're all American. Each girl holds her head so proudly high, her motto do or die, we're not the kind to need or use an alibi...

I love her so much, even more so after this year with the California Commission on the Status of Women. she's done a lot for the Commission, and for California, and for women. I can't help but love her endlessly.

A League of Their Own is one of my all-time favorite movies, but of hers The Long Kiss Goodnight is one of my favorites. She was so badass in that movie.

"I think I'd always felt uncoordinated and not physically capable of doing a lot of things. And it was so transformative... I was finding it out in my 30s. It was the same thing: 'Wow, my body can actually do things, and it feels fabulous when I accomplish something,' "

i'm not as old as her, but i've only really become physically active in the last few years and i totally agree with this. i was hopelessly weak and uncoordinated as a kid and rather than being encouraged to play sports etc to develop some skills, i was discouraged from trying anything :/ now that i'm independently trying stuff (mostly cycling but also running, soccer) it's amazing to learn about this whole new side of myself.

Yes I agree. I mean, I took dance and played soccer when I was younger, but I really fell out of it. I started going to the gym and working out this summer and keep just being impressed by myself. I'm like - Yeah, I can lift this. Yes, I can run!

She is so awesome. She has always reminded me of my mom (my mom is tall, same age, haircolor - usually -, similar facial structure & lips) so I have always loved her.
