Tom Hardy is being courted for the lead role in Jack Ryan spinoff Without Remorse.
The potential spinoff franchise centres on John Clark, who is described variously as the counterpart and "dark side" to CIA operative Jack Ryan (Chris Pine).
Deadline reports that Paramount are keen to enlist Tom Hardy for the role of Clark, but no indication has been given regarding Hardy's level of interest.
Kevin Costner will star in both the new Jack Ryan film and Without Remorse as Ryan and Clark's idealistic mentor William Harper.
Based on Tom Clancy's novel of the same name, the 1970s-set Without Remorse sees John Clark become involved in a mission to rescue American pilots from a Vietnamese prison camp.
Coupled with the apparent failure of this mission, Clark is also struggling with the recent death of his pregnant wife.
Christopher McQuarrie, who wrote 2008 Tom Cruise thriller Valkyrie and the upcoming Jack Reacher, is in talks to write and direct the adaptation of Without Remorse
Casting for the as-yet-untitled Jack Ryan project starring Chris Pine is still underway, with Keira Knightley recently reported as the frontrunner for the female lead.
Kenneth Branagh will direct Pine as Jack Ryan and play the film's principal villain, with production expected to begin later this year.
Hardy will next be seen in John Hillcoat's Prohibition drama Lawless.
