DO NOT MAKE CIVIL WAR HAPPEN I CANNOT.
numbedtoe 21st-Aug-2012 03:27 am (UTC)
IA. i don't want CW ever filmed unless it's not live action. even then idk if i ever want it done. all my cries. forever.
agent99 21st-Aug-2012 03:29 am (UTC)
Yeah you know, I'm not sure how they would make it work for the reasons I've stanned about down there already haha but, mostly I just cannot live to see the "It wasn't worth it" speech done by RDJ. I will need a 6 foot deep hole waiting for me in the theater because I will die. I will die right there.
go3x 21st-Aug-2012 09:54 am (UTC)
Keep that shitty arc in the comic please. I don't want to ever see it in any kind of adaptation, especially not live action.
bodyline 21st-Aug-2012 03:10 am (UTC)
how is this not already out yet jfc
first_quadrant 21st-Aug-2012 03:11 am (UTC)
how is it even going to happen? there is like no setup for cw in mcu
xpirate_queenx 21st-Aug-2012 03:24 am (UTC)
It won't. It can't. Logistically, it doesn't make sense.

1) None of the established heroes have secret identities. Either their dual identity is known, they're S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, or are general public figures. The only one who kinda does is Bruce Banner, but he wasn't even involved in Civil War. Introducing a registration act would do nothing because there are no identities to forcefully reveal.

2) Civil War involves waaaaaaay too many heroes that Marvel doesn't own the rights to; namely several mutants and of course, Spider-Man.

3) CW damn near turned Tony Stark into a villain; the repercussions of which Marvel is only just now able to slowly begin to reverse. I can't honestly see Downey's Stark going to quite the same extremes as comic Tony.

That, combined with the above reasons, means they couldn't possibly try to adapt Civil War without so drastically changing it to work around the aforementioned conditions that it wouldn't really be Civil War anymore. There's no point. There are SO many better, more adaptable storylines than Civil War. Notoriety doesn't equal quality.

who kinda does is Bruce Banner, but he wasn't even involved in Civil War.

let's skip straight to wold war hulk
numbedtoe 21st-Aug-2012 03:32 am (UTC)
I'm convinced that Ironman the film was made as it was to save IM the comicbook character because before that movie Tony was damn near universally hated because of CW and just being a general dickhead. I tell people who want to get into the books, and i think that's great, don't expect IM to be Robert Downy Jr. as IM. They are two different things and it took a lot to, as you said, reverse the damage. The movie is the thing that has made IM likable again.

I remember the forums back in the day and people would bay for Tony Stark's blood. I was one of them. But I love what Robert did with it and their spin.

Weak parts of the movies aside, his IM is to me an example of reconning a character for the better. Marvel films have been 50-50 on that.

And Marvel needs to get a grip before they ruin book Wolverine.
first_quadrant 21st-Aug-2012 03:38 am (UTC)
Sorry, saw the screen and hit my panic button!! Someone talked me down and explained it was probably related to the comic-reading app as the next selection.

But to add to your thoughts...

I don't think there are enough heroes to reenact Civil War anyway-- that shit was long and had way too many well-established characters. Even if they got the licenses for the X-Men and Fantastic Four and Spiderman and got them all involved, it would take at least a movie of setup and then be extremely confusing and alienating to anyone who hadn't seen like the entire collection of everything else.

Also considering Tony makes the most bank out of all the Avengers' single movies I don't think they'll ever make him a "villain"-- even a villain by necessity as he so explained/retconned...

Also if they headed CW with Tony and Steve, that wouldn't work in MCU at least until the next Avengers movie because their relationship just isn't to that place yet and a miracle would need to be in place to properly convey that dynamic. Like what, are they just going to cut off the CW feature at PS Steve's dead! Nothing to see here?

So yeah, if this is actually a film thing and not a comic-reading thing I'll be really pissed/disappointed/extremely surprised and not in a good way.

mte, honestly.

Perfect comment imo.
agent99 21st-Aug-2012 03:28 am (UTC)
Yeah pretty much, mentioned reasons above plus they've already done the MCU so much differently than the comics went. The chain of events, the bonds between people, and not to mention the fact that they WOULD need to get the xmen partially involved and the fantastic four (So is Chris Evans gonna play BOTH his characters in this? JUST WONDERING) and stuff. No rights to spider man, no plot set up. They already went off on their own arc so far, they should just stick with it. They can do so much more interesting things.
britt_m_89 21st-Aug-2012 03:11 am (UTC)
Yes we can never have enough Avengers posts.

Presumably. The only deleted scene I recall is the Hawkeye/Loki strategization scene.

maisontv 21st-Aug-2012 03:17 am (UTC)
The more I think about it, the more I think that the only way they can do anything resembling Civil War is if they take the core concept of government regulation of superheroes (which, tbh is the only part that I'm really attached to) and gut everything else.

With how little sense it made with the characters in 616 verse, it makes even less sense with them as they are in the MCU.
agent99 21st-Aug-2012 03:20 am (UTC)
Yeah first of all they're lacking some KEY CHARACTERS (SPIDER MAN HELLO) in the MCU. It was sometimes spread so thin in the comic, it would be a total clusterfuck in the movie. Secondly, and I swear this isn't me shipping, this really is canon, so much of the tension and such in the CW arc is not simply because of Captain America and Iron Man being on opposite sides, but because of their long established relationship/friendship/whatevership. They're barely chummy at all in the MCU so far since they've taken a completely different approach to their relationship in it.

And thirdly they just can't because I'll fucking die if I see the "it wasn't worth it" speech played out by RDJ.
maisontv 21st-Aug-2012 03:31 am (UTC)
I agree with all of this. Three movies would not be enough time to build up Steve and Tony's relationship to the point it needs to be for this to work.
first_quadrant 21st-Aug-2012 04:16 am (UTC)
And thirdly they just can't because I'll fucking die if I see the "it wasn't worth it" speech played out by RDJ.

ngl if they filmed this scene out of context just for the fans and NOT because they think they can make CW work in a film/series of films i'd be all up on that shit

me and my blubbery unattractive tears will be there.
365reasonswhy 21st-Aug-2012 03:21 am (UTC)
I kind of don't want them to do it though, since we've had that theme in the X-Men movies. It feels done at this point.
