Doug Hutchison called a child molester by Couples Therapy co-star

They wed when she was just 16 and he was 51 - a union which understandably caused controversy.

And now Doug Hutchison and Courtney Stodden are taking part in reality show Couples Therapy, it seems the age gap between them is once again causing issues.

According to reports, Nik Richie, who is also a contestant on the show, labelled Hutchison a 'child molester' and refused to shake his hand in one of the first scenes of the new series.

His alleged comment comes after Hutchison and Stodden were forced to get a signed consent form from her mother ahead of their wedding in Las Vegas last year because the blonde teen was under 18 at the time of their nuptials.

TMZ.com reports that when the show began shooting last week, TheDirty.com blogger Richie avoided speaking to Hutchison, now 52, at all after making the remark.

The gossip website claims that Hutchison was left incredibly upset and 'deeply offended' by Richie's comments - with the argument causing a rift among the rest of the cast.

It was revealed earlier this month that Stodden, 17, and Hutchison would be taking part in the new series of VH1's Couples Therapy, and would receive 'intense counselling' as part of the show along with four other couples.

According to reports at the time, Stodden and Hutchison have acknowledged that they have 'obvious problems in their relationship because of their age difference and the notoriety they've gotten because of their relationship'.

Richie and his wife Shayne Lamas are one of the other pairs taking part, alongside Real Housewives Of New York stars Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen, K-Ci and JoJo singer JoJo and his wife Tiny and rapper Too Short and girlfriend Monica Payne.

The new series of Couples Therapy is set to premiere on VH1 this fall.
