ABC Family Cancels 'Jane By Design'

The news comes after the cable network renewed several scripted series on Friday.

ABC Family is not moving forward with Jane By Design.

After renewing a slew of scripted series, including Switched at Birth and Baby Daddy, the cable network opted not to bring back the fashion drama that starred Erica Dasher and Andie MacDowell for a second season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Jane By Design, which centered on high schooler Jane Quimby (Dasher) who moonlighted as an executive assistant to a hotshot executive (MacDowell) at a top New York City fashion house. Jane By Design ended its 18-episode season with 1.2 million viewers in late July.
The series, created by April Blair and executive produced by Gavin Polone, made a splash when it recruited Desperate Housewives' Teri Hatcher to play Jane's absent mother for a multi-episode arc. Hatcher was slated to direct an episode.

In May, MacDowell booked a TV movie for Hallmark Channel, Cedar Cove, based on the Debbie Macomber book that will serve as a backdoor pilot for a series.

Now we'll never know if Jane and Billy end up together :(

Aw, I liked this show. Mostly for the boy candy. I love David Clayton Rogers - he's cutie and funny.

The boy candy on this show was amazing. There was a guy for everyone, I swear...
redaodai 17th-Aug-2012 08:29 pm (UTC)
This is true. And I'd bang all of them, NGL. Well, except for the British guy. He didn't do much for me.

ia ia. i didn't really care for him at the beginning, but he ended up my favorite character on the show. i usually skipped straight to his scenes.

I kept watching for him. But then they ruined that too with the mom/baseball storyline and ugh.... Goodness knows what they were thinking.

sastra_fuss 17th-Aug-2012 08:29 pm (UTC)
lol this show sucked
frances_t 17th-Aug-2012 08:35 pm (UTC)
It would have been better if there was a greater variety in each episode's story line. It got stale, watching Billy and Jane deal with India.

Thank god. This show was so fucking stupid and ridiculous, I could not get past the first episode. Like forging documents for a job would ever fly in the real world. That was just one area I could not ignore. They should have had some other hook than her being in high school then.

Also will be forever bitter about the cancelation of MIOBI. In my heart, Payson and Kaylie won gold and silver in London <3

I couldn't watch past the first ep because of that forging documents part, and knowing that most likely if it was ever brought to light it would be some sort of "lol we found out your docs were fake but we love you like waaaay toooo muuuuuch to let you know so we'll figure it out lol!"

Yes, exactly, thats why I couldn't continue watching. It also just made no sense - big corporations like that usually do background checks, first of all. Her social security number will reveal her real age. She has to submit her tax records with her correct social, I don't buy that no one would catch that she was underage. It just made no sense. I was also skeeved out by the fact that, from the episode I saw, they were creating a triangle with a high school boy (her best friend, I think?) and the guy she works with -- who is likely in his mid twenties and she's supposed to be a sixteen, seventeen year old girl. That's just gross.

Not cute, ABC Family.

Figured as much tbh.
chuk_is_dazzled 17th-Aug-2012 08:37 pm (UTC)
HAHA I knew it would get cancelled
bloodbelieve 17th-Aug-2012 08:38 pm (UTC)
the show would've been better just without jane, i was sick of the 'every guy i meet falls in love with me but my life is so hard' shtick

whereas the boys and the guidance counsellor and india were all flawless creatures a+

The premise sounds like that Kiki Palmer show. Same thing except she was a designer.

I just wanted Nick and Billy to make out.
she_rockstar 17th-Aug-2012 11:30 pm (UTC)
Nick was so hot. I'll miss him too. I loved him in S1 before they sidelined him.
redaodai 17th-Aug-2012 11:42 pm (UTC)
I thought I wouldn't be attracted to a jocky-looking 'bro' like Nick, but the actor is cutie. The Lulu thing made no sense, and Jane probably would've gotten a complex after two guys she liked sorta cheated on her.

the only reason I even know this show exists is because it starts right after Pretty Little Liars, which is always my cue to turn off the TV.
scarybuttshaka 17th-Aug-2012 08:45 pm (UTC)
every single time I end up liking a show, they cancel it. this womps.
xoxotalli 17th-Aug-2012 08:45 pm (UTC)
It's Hollywood. Of course they get together.
frances_t 17th-Aug-2012 08:56 pm (UTC)
They could pull an Instant Star and have her pick no one... Idk, I just really wanted to see it actually happen...
