JGL's interviews are always fun to me because I never now if I'll finish reading them thinking "Shut the fuck up, you hispter douchebag" or "That's actually really interesting, Joe". Thankfully, I'm leaning more towards the latter than the former with this one.
He had already said that his character in 500 Days of Summer was a whiny asshole, but I guess it always bears repeating.
pixiedivision 17th-Aug-2012 08:52 am (UTC)
Yeah surprisingly I really liked this one and weirdly enough from playboy...
His gq spread was vomit inducing tbh.
die2nitelive4ev 15th-Aug-2012 11:02 pm (UTC)
Who knew Playboy would have such an intelligent interview. Nice to read some proper questions for once in a while.
expromqueen 15th-Aug-2012 11:37 pm (UTC)
ppl read it for the articles
erised_mirror 15th-Aug-2012 11:38 pm (UTC)
I believe Playboy is actually famous for its interesting reads. Not 100% of them, but at least some. I heard in a documentary that that was one of Hef's goals - to combine pretty women with interesting, hopefully well-written reads for men.

I want a version of that, but for me u.u a consistent one!
pixiedivision 17th-Aug-2012 08:53 am (UTC)
it's a shame what the design/look of the mag has turned into when it could've became so much more.

"A song-and-dance role is closer to me personally than other characters I play."

he can't sing though
wingnut13 16th-Aug-2012 05:06 am (UTC)
Au contraire.

He can sing his ass off.

The Occupy movement is a pop culture happening that’s saying money is not what’s cool. What’s cool is doing something worthwhile. If your goal is to make money in the movie industry, you make crappy movies, not good ones.

TBH

I would encourage anyone who has a crush on my character to watch it again and examine how selfish he is. He develops a mildly delusional obsession over a girl onto whom he projects all these fantasies. He thinks she’ll give his life meaning because he doesn’t care about much else going on in his life. A lot of boys and girls think their lives will have meaning if they find a partner who wants nothing else in life but them. That’s not healthy. That’s falling in love with the idea of a person, not the actual person.

Well said sir.

I think that sexist comment he made will still make me side eye but if he keeps talking like this then maybe I'll stop disliking him

TBH I just think he can be a bit arrogant and he tries soooo hard it always seems a little desperate

He needs to just relax and read a book or something

that quote speaks so much to me since I recently recovered from a heartbreak very similar to the one his character goes through. I now know that yes, I loved him, but he wasn't the love of my life simply because I believe the love of your life should want to be with you, at least once or even forever, but not "never".

And yeah IA that he takes himself a bit too seriously but I think there are more extreme cases out there. Like, idk, Aaron Johnson strucks me as worst. He fucking said the first movie he remembers seeing was fight club. Seriously? I feel like he's trying to give off a "smart" image ALL THE TIME.

tell me moar about aaron johnson

GORDON-LEVITT: I grew up in the 1990s, when it was considered cool to be excessively rich. That’s what rappers rapped about, and later that’s what Paris Hilton had a TV show about and what MTV Cribs was about. The Occupy movement is a pop culture happening that’s saying money is not what’s cool. What’s cool is doing something worthwhile. If your goal is to make money in the movie industry, you make crappy movies, not good ones.

I'm not an expect on the Occupy movement, but I would say he is privileged and it's nice not to have to worry about money. Anyway, he says a bunch of things that are annoying and he seems a bit full of himself. He's a good actor though and a lot of the things he says I agree with 100%.
pixiedivision 17th-Aug-2012 08:55 am (UTC)
I don't find that he's necessarily ever wrong about things but just very preachy, but he reads off very well in this article.
icameinyoursoup 15th-Aug-2012 11:19 pm (UTC)
A lot of these aren't questions.
theitalianchick 15th-Aug-2012 11:34 pm (UTC)
I love him and he could get it any way any time idgaf
trixx_r4_kidz 15th-Aug-2012 11:34 pm (UTC)
one of the best Q&A interviews i've ever read of a celeb. he's giving exactly what i expected (and more) from him as a person. i MUST fan-meet him and infiltrate his social circle... i have got to work with this guy omg.
zoaster_toaster 15th-Aug-2012 11:44 pm (UTC)
He's absolutely right about CNN and MSNBC and 500 Days of Summer and I want to be his girlfriend.
sgmajorshipper 16th-Aug-2012 02:48 pm (UTC)
I was surprised when he said that about CNN and MSNBC...even educated people seem to be incapable of acknowledging that bias exists on all sides of the news. They're all shitty, which is why I either watch all of them and check up on what I care about on my own or I just pay no attention to any of them.
zoaster_toaster 16th-Aug-2012 02:57 pm (UTC)
I don't watch any cable news - I read from the papers, listen to NPR or read various online sources to get my news.
hpxstac 16th-Aug-2012 05:11 pm (UTC)
I feel like most educated people know CNN and MSNBC are biased, but don't really give a fuck because those aren't their only methods of accessing political information. That's not always the case for Fox News viewers.

juanitatequila 16th-Aug-2012 12:03 am (UTC)
i was hoping for pictures boo
scientist 16th-Aug-2012 12:09 am (UTC)
he’s a good actor but after reading so many bad encounters that fans have had with him, i side-eye the shit out of him.
beautifulweddin 16th-Aug-2012 02:26 am (UTC)
I had a really good encounter!
adrock 16th-Aug-2012 03:27 am (UTC)
is it the "no pictures" thing? lol he thinks he's doing them a favor, but, yeah he should probably bend a little on his stance as he gets more famous. it's not going to fly.
pixiedivision 17th-Aug-2012 08:56 am (UTC)
what type?
gdithero 16th-Aug-2012 12:12 am (UTC)
this interview makes good points, good job
deja_vu822 16th-Aug-2012 12:39 am (UTC)
i love how he's consistently shut down Tom worshippers from the time 500 Days of Summer came out.
