Rashida Jones Apologizes For John Travolta Gay Comment

Rashida Jones has apologized for a comment that she made implying that John Travolta is gay and needs to come out of the closet.

In an interview with Spinning Platters to promote her new movie Celeste and Jesse Forever, the 36-year-old actress discussed Frank Ocean‘s coming out and voiced her hope that a major movie star would come out next.

“A movie star. Like John Travolta? Come out! Come on. How many masseurs have to come forward? Let’s do this,” she said.

Rashida took to her Twitter account to apologize for the comment: “Made a thoughtless comment about John Travolta. I sincerely apologize. Nobody’s personal life is my business,” she wrote.

lmao that was fast

i'm on the fence on how i feel about celebrities coming out or being forced out - it's like on one hand they have a right to their privacy on the other hand, being gay isn't a vice and it's not a bad thing so for someone to say that another person is gay shouldn't be taken as a negative thing idk

You sound straight. Being outed CAN be dangerous, and concerning celebrities it can be damaging to a career in the sadly still really homophobic world we live in which is why some people choose not to come out... or they just don't want to as it's not anyone's business but their own. It isn't bad to gossip about them, but to publicly call for them to come out is gross.

Obviously you don't know much about it if you think it's okay to out people, and that gay people should be activists because omg it would make the world better! And I'm gay as well so I know all about homophobia, thanks.

The fact that you're gay makes you look even worse for spouting that garbage.

His sexuality (and the sexuality of any celebrity) is HIS business. He has no obligation to be the face of gay actors. Sure, it would be nice, but he has no responsibility to be that person. If he is gay and he chooses to remain closeted, that's his decision. Coming out is a personal thing and no one should be pushed or forced out of the closet.

But it's pretty obvious that he's been leading an active gay lifestyle for quite some time. Having sex with men on the side and keeping up this facade of straightness is really damaging to the average gay psyche. I just don't understand why all of a sudden I have to support him when he just wants to reap the benefits (lol) without paying any of the price. It's not right and it presents an inherent negative view of homosexuality which shouldn't be there to begin with .

idk, with someone like him, i feel like it would be like a... detriment almost for him to come out at this point, after all the lying and bearding and just general patheticness. with anderson it was affirming, because he never outright denied it or has lawsuits involved or hasn't been hiding since the '70s. i feel like it would just be sad at this point for travolta to come out.

younger celebs, i understand to a certain level of privacy, but they CAN come out and have it be an immensely positive thing. especially celebs around 20-30, they will lose a hell of lot less and it's more sad that they would attempt to hide at this point.

Yes. This is very true. And it's sad that it has come to this, but tbh I just feel anger toward people like him - who put on this facade of straightness and keep up those appearances while having gay sex on the side. It's angering and it's not fair and for people like him, a part of me feels like they should be outed.

I swear I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone with all these fucktards defending this maggot.

I know right. I like how being on the fence about John "sexually assaulting masseurs" Travolta brings about this. These people are unhinged. They can't even have a discussion. Everything is always black and white. Hypocrites tbh
