$80,000 -- and that's at the low end of a Professorial salary, they probably make more like $90,000 or $100,000 (especially at their ages -- is plenty of money for two people who live in a small town. I get that they're saying they're not millionaires and can't afford to support her lifestyle, but it's easy to see where her privileged, out-of-touch attitude comes from when they're insinuating that they're just a couple of middle-class grunts.

I mean I don't watch the show so I know nothing about her fictional backstory. But yeah they're definitely well off.

together, their salaries would help them live comfortably in new york (is that where they are??) but not very comfortably- and that's if they only had themselves to take care of. if they have loans or anything for cars and their house/condo, that changes things. living (on the east coast) is actually expensive!

Her parents are in the midwest somewhere in a small town where housing prices would be very low, as would the cost of living, and their jobs probably come with good benefits. They support their daughter's life in Brooklyn where they pay her rent and, I think, give her spending money, etc.
