Warner Bros. Wants Daredevil to Direct 'Justice League'

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Yesterday was a huge day for the people over at Marvel Studios. In addition to getting Joss Whedon to sign on to write and direct The Avengers 2, he is also now developing a new television series that will be set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and has also signed an exclusive three year contract with the studio to help them develop all of Marvel's projects between now and 2015. Now Warner Bros. is striking back with some big comic book movie news of their own.

According to Variety, Warners, which owns the rights to all DC Comics characters, is now looking at Ben Affleck as a possible candidate to direct their upcoming Justice League movie. The news comes a few weeks after Christopher Nolan announced that he would no longer be making any films involving Batman, even as a producer. Affleck, who has worked with WB on both The Town and the upcoming Argo, is expected to go in and speak with studio executives in the next couple days to discuss the possibility of helming the huge superhero project. He has already be sent the script for the film, which was written by Gangster Squad's Will Beall last summer.

While details about how the movie will function are still being kept under wraps, the comic book movie will bring together some of DC's most popular characters, including heroes like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, and more to help save the world. Variety suggests that there is some possibility that Affleck could take a role in the film for himself (he previously played the superhero Daredevil in the eponymous 2003 Mark Steven Johnson movie).

Who would you cast for this hot mess movie?

I feel like a Justice League movie wouldn't work as well as The Avengers.

Not to mention everyone would compare it to The Avengers and it wouldn't be able to live up to that hype.
xpirate_queenx 8th-Aug-2012 11:14 pm (UTC)
It really wouldn't. DC is rushing out a Justice League movie just to ride the coattails of Marvel's success w/ The Avengers. Granted, they've been talking about making a JL flick for years, but it seems highly suspect that they've greenlit one immediately post-Avengers.

They won't have nearly enough time to pre-establish a full universe like Marvel's done, either (So no new Batman, Superman, Flash, Wonder Woman etc movies leading up to the League). This handful of massive characters are going to be plopped in front of us all at once and we'll have no time for development. The problem with DC is that they aren't the ones making their own movies; Warner Brothers is, and their main focus is box office revenue over quality or source material faithfulness.

I read that what they want to do is use a JL movie to launch franchises for the members who don't have their own (ergo everyone who isn't Superman since it's a new Batman). Which does kind of make sense.

But that said, yes, they're rushing the shit out of this to try to ride Avengers' coattails and it ain't gonna work.

Joss Whedon is working with Marvel until 2015.

Until 2016, everything DC does is invalid.

God Dammit!
No, don't let Affleck touch it.
He's kryptonite to super-hero projects!
pixiedivision 9th-Aug-2012 03:55 pm (UTC)
i don't know i can see him doing something good with it, he's a decent director. Although it seems a bit premature tho
cruel_fortuna 9th-Aug-2012 03:57 pm (UTC)
He's a decent director for a certain genre.
His version ( God forbid they give him the directing gig ) of this movie would be over the top kitschy.

Jennifer's a real idiot. Affleck's behavior was already notorious before she became involved with him.

we don't know their relationship though. in all honestly, as someone who knows many a person who has met/worked with ben he has really changed for the better since getting with her. i don't think their marriage is great but it's hollywood and warped, maybe they have an open relationship and as long as he's a good father and good to her when he's around they're good.
winonaforever 8th-Aug-2012 11:53 pm (UTC)
Ita. And she's had a crush on him for years, maybe she's just happy that he's with her.

I don't care who directs it as long as someone that knows the characters writes it. I don't understand why they don't get the people that do the animated series'/movies to work on this?
xo_prettywords 8th-Aug-2012 09:28 pm (UTC)
Mte the animated universe is so flawless, why can't they just do that but in live action?
batty_gal 8th-Aug-2012 09:31 pm (UTC)

spacebound09 8th-Aug-2012 09:26 pm (UTC)

fwee_prower 8th-Aug-2012 09:27 pm (UTC)
This Flop movie.
xpirate_queenx 8th-Aug-2012 09:27 pm (UTC)
No. No no no no no.

If anything, he should direct Daredevil.
actxappalledx 8th-Aug-2012 09:28 pm (UTC)
He's actually a good director, tho this is outside of the type of films he usually makes
aawler 8th-Aug-2012 09:28 pm (UTC)
and i hope they do wally west/john stewart instead of barry/hal
xo_prettywords 8th-Aug-2012 09:34 pm (UTC)
John Stewart or bust imo

John Stewart>>>>>>>
waffled_flambe 8th-Aug-2012 09:40 pm (UTC)
ia but i know this won't happen so I won't even get my hopes up
batty_gal 8th-Aug-2012 09:43 pm (UTC)
For real. John and Wally were the best. I hate how DC decided to cater to fucking old-ass fanboys by bringing Barry's boring ass back and not capitalizing on John's popularity from JLU.
fwee_prower 8th-Aug-2012 10:16 pm (UTC)
They did that tho. until the reboot

The JLA team was flawless

Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Vixen, John GL, Hal GL, Wally West, Red Arrow, Red Tornado, Zatanna, Black Canary as the leader, Black Lightning, Hawkgirl, and Geo Force.

such a flawless team. the seriously made this line up because of the JLU.
krycek_chick 8th-Aug-2012 10:26 pm (UTC)
This!!!! The Green Lantern movie should have been John Stewart. I'm so sick of seeing Hal's origin over and over...

Also Wally is my fave Flash...
nemo_de_la_meer 9th-Aug-2012 01:30 am (UTC)
John Stewart was my Green Lantern.

Now and forever.
