Hunger Games War: Jennifer Lawrence Pay Raise Upsets Co-Stars

Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson are demanding more money to appear in the Hunger Games sequel, RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting.

The pair are suffering with pay envy after learning that their blonde bombshell co-star Jennifer Lawrence, 21, is signed on to earn $10 million for the second movie in the series, Catching Fire – a significant pay hike from the $500k she received for the first film.

And the two male leads are even threatening to walk if the movie studio doesn’t give them what they want.

“When stars are negotiating their contracts, these things can happen and stars will try and bump up their salaries,” a source said.

“Liam and Josh got wind of Jennifer’s significant pay raise and they want more money to appear in the second movie of the tetralogy. They’re not demanding as much as Jennifer, they’re aware she plays a bigger role in the films, but they want a little more than the $2 million they were each offered.

“With the success of the first movie, they feel that $5 million is a more suitable fee and are haggling with the studio before dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s on their deals.

“And they have even said they may not return for the sequel, which they hope will be a bargaining chip for a bigger pay packet,” the source revealed.

As the Hollywood Reporter reported, Lawrence is currently negotiating her $10 million paycheck for the movies’ next installment. That figure will include salary, bonuses and escalators.

It’s a significant pay increase for the rising starlet who earned $500k for The Hunger Games, plus bonuses from the film’s box office earnings of $683.8 million.

Catching Fire is set to begin filming in Atlanta next month, then will move to Hawaii in early November. The sci-fi epic will debut in movie theaters on November 22, 2013.

It's not like the studio can't afford it.
whimsical_irony 8th-Aug-2012 12:47 am (UTC)
Basically. And I'd rather the profits of the movie go to the actors than to the studio execs.

wendilili 8th-Aug-2012 12:56 am (UTC)
Why? The studio execs does way more work. The actors literally does the least work on movies. If there's someone that "deserves" it the most it's the crew.
ppeak 8th-Aug-2012 01:21 am (UTC)
They can, but Jennifer is the star. She can negotiate that high.

And the other cast-mates needs to remember, with the 2 million comes bonuses, a bit of backend, etc...I'm some cases, but they'll get more than what they're saying.

This sounds like agents/managers talking.

One can only hope.
hilary_faye 8th-Aug-2012 12:47 am (UTC)
Lol preach. Those roles could use a re-cast
desi_kudi728 8th-Aug-2012 12:48 am (UTC)
mte. I like Liam but Josh just doesn't do it for me as Peeta

ty. josh was so distractingly ugly in the movie.

rabbitncavylove 8th-Aug-2012 01:20 am (UTC)
They must have signed contracts for sequels when they signed the first one. They usually have a clause. I doubt they could walk without a lawsuit?
ppeak 8th-Aug-2012 01:21 am (UTC)
Josh would never do that.

He knows better.
nemoteen 8th-Aug-2012 01:23 am (UTC)
they're both terribly miscast.
go3x 8th-Aug-2012 01:48 am (UTC)
This. And it's not like they're that famous. Unlike JLaw, they are nobodies.
soramai 8th-Aug-2012 12:26 pm (UTC)
i wish they recast them.

I can't take them seriously once I found out they're written by National Enquirer/Star.

I didn't even know that but suddenly everything makes sense.

Flaw free icon you got there btw
lolbye 8th-Aug-2012 12:47 am (UTC)
Lol they could easily replace Gale if they wanted to lbr
nightfury 8th-Aug-2012 12:49 am (UTC)
lolbye 8th-Aug-2012 12:50 am (UTC)
They can also replace Peeta, pls and ty
ellaellaeheheh 8th-Aug-2012 12:56 am (UTC)
ik. just cut his scenes from the first and it would be like it never happened. there are not so many anyway
teaaet 8th-Aug-2012 06:19 pm (UTC)
seriously he is so useless. lionsgate should have cut him and kept madge, tbh
abbiemills 8th-Aug-2012 12:47 am (UTC)
LOL at this.

Liam and Josh would've done the franchise for free if they had to, tbh and I think they wanted it more than anyone else in the cast. Neither of them are going to walk from this project.

And unless they mean Mockingjay, Josh is already blonde for CF anyway...

mte! I don't know about Liam, but Josh for sure.
go spread your lies elsewhere tbh.
lifeleftbehind 8th-Aug-2012 01:35 am (UTC)
yup, this
ellaellaeheheh 8th-Aug-2012 12:54 am (UTC)
lol I wouldn't care at all. go ahead. change them lol josh had a bigger part, so it would make a diference. but liam was so barely there, you could just cut his part from the first movie and will be like it never happened.
makahakat 8th-Aug-2012 12:56 am (UTC)
dont forget about me! :D
danceprincess20 8th-Aug-2012 12:52 am (UTC)
My thoughts exactly. If they already have contracts, they're all lucky they're getting a raise (as deserved as it may be).
swissbeauty23 8th-Aug-2012 12:53 am (UTC)
me too
nightfury 8th-Aug-2012 12:47 am (UTC)
lol they're not going anywhere
professor_chaos 8th-Aug-2012 12:48 am (UTC)
maybe because Jennifer Lawrence was Oscar nominated where as the others were not....? or she just did a better job (idk i haven't seen it yet but that's what I'm gathering)

Edited at 2012-08-08 12:49 am (UTC)
ppeak 8th-Aug-2012 01:23 am (UTC)
It isn't about Oscar.

The studio believes she's worth the money and not worth pissing her off and having to recast the part.

She's worth the dough.

xdecadentx 8th-Aug-2012 11:53 am (UTC)
It wasn't because she did a better job (I've seen it)
shinebrighter 8th-Aug-2012 12:48 am (UTC)
wasn't liam in like five minutes of the movie? how much can that possibly be worth? i haven't read the second book so maybe it's a way bigger part...
abbiemills 8th-Aug-2012 12:49 am (UTC)
His part gets a lot bigger in the other books, especially the last one. They actually upped his character in the first movie from what he had in the book.
nightfury 8th-Aug-2012 12:50 am (UTC)
he has a big role in the third book, it wasnt that big in the second iirc
ellaellaeheheh 8th-Aug-2012 12:53 am (UTC)
its not that big in the second one. but we don't know if they will change the script.
nicholasdee 8th-Aug-2012 12:58 am (UTC)
his role in the second book will translate to like 10 minutes more screen time TOPS

his role in mockingjay is bigger but even then it pales to peeta and finnick
deadtree 8th-Aug-2012 02:24 am (UTC)
yeah tbh I was always confused by people who saw Gale as being as important as Peeta in any way, shape, or form in the books. Just no. I'm trying to be all ~team Peeta or whatever either because I didn't really give a damn either way, but Gale's part wasn't really all that important and I don't know why any actor would be pissing himself trying to get it, unless he just wanted to be able to say he'd been in the movies.
fineapplewine 8th-Aug-2012 09:05 am (UTC)
I think his role in Mockingjay is bigger than Josh's though? Especially bearing in mind that Peeta isn't in the first half of the book at all whereas Gale is there with Katniss more or less non-stop throughout. I like Liam but don't like Gale but definitely thought we got more Gale than PeetA throughout Mockingjay.
gonerilandregan randomness8th-Aug-2012 12:48 am (UTC)
the nickname "JLaw" reminds me of "coleslaw."
brogitsune Re: randomness8th-Aug-2012 12:57 am (UTC)
it makes no sense to me because I say it like J-Law whereas her name is pronounced Lorence...
gonerilandregan Re: randomness8th-Aug-2012 01:02 am (UTC)
haha, true.

the only person I can see pronouncing it as "LAW-rence" is Janice from Friends.
arlen_mci Re: randomness8th-Aug-2012 01:04 am (UTC)
of course they can't risk confusing people between Jennifer Lawrence and J-lo, if you went my pronunciation.

I personally always think of Jude Law when I see the "J-Law" thing lol
r4wrdinosaur Re: randomness8th-Aug-2012 12:59 am (UTC)
It confuses me because we use to call Jude Law that. I feel old.. :P
ellaellaeheheh 8th-Aug-2012 12:52 am (UTC)
yeah, he was bad in his like 2 scenes. really wooden, no emotion.
ponpiri 8th-Aug-2012 01:19 am (UTC)
I didn't think he was terrible at all. I was pleasantly surprised by him and his "southern" American accent. He gelled very well with Jen. I think the scenes they chose for him were awful not due to his acting, but placement.
deadtree 8th-Aug-2012 02:26 am (UTC)
tbh they should have just used one of those cardboard standees for his parts.

Actually that's a good idea if he's really demanding more money for the next films, it'd be easy to cut his part down to a few 2-minute chunks here and there and the standee would work just as well. Somebody could dub in Bane's voice for his lines and it would be hilarious.
mingemonster 8th-Aug-2012 07:48 am (UTC)
admiratio 8th-Aug-2012 12:49 am (UTC)
IMHO, I can see Josh asking for and definitely getting a raise for the next film. However, I don't think Liam's role will be big enough for the next film for as big of a raise as Josh - at least not until the final two films, where his character has a much larger role.
squishinator 8th-Aug-2012 01:26 am (UTC)
final 2??? theres only 3 books.
admiratio 8th-Aug-2012 01:33 am (UTC)
Mockingjay is going to be split into two films.

pudgemaggs 8th-Aug-2012 12:49 am (UTC)
$10 million to star in a film??? That's all kinds of ridiculous.
questanotte 8th-Aug-2012 12:52 am (UTC)
Daniel Radcliffe got 20 million each for each deathly hallows film (i think)
offinlahlahland 8th-Aug-2012 12:56 am (UTC)
I thought it was 25....
loverelapse 8th-Aug-2012 01:00 am (UTC)
that's hp and the last film tho
masterofmystery 8th-Aug-2012 01:39 am (UTC)
he got much more than that lmao
rare_lj 8th-Aug-2012 01:54 am (UTC)
That sounds like a bargain
danceprincess20 8th-Aug-2012 12:56 am (UTC)
Kristen Stewart usually gets $20 million a film (and generally the women still make less than the male stars). RDJ got $50 million for Avengers.
camila12j 8th-Aug-2012 01:07 am (UTC)
yeah I said it in the the other post.. the amount of money they get is absolutely ridiculous
chrislola 8th-Aug-2012 01:21 am (UTC)
most actors are overpaid tbh. they aren't curing fucking cancer, so i don't get it. never did.
chilli_cheese 8th-Aug-2012 01:40 am (UTC)
Not if your movie is making $500+ million. Actors/Entertainers get paid a shit load of money because they rake in much much more for their bosses. Only a fool would take less.
stylistic4u 8th-Aug-2012 11:01 am (UTC)
It is. And I love Jennifer, but come on now.
backupblood 8th-Aug-2012 12:50 am (UTC)
I call bullshit. I bet they're all negotiating at the same time.
