Oh and there were lots of tears from both parties for some reason and the medal ceremony was a mess...the girl that got the silver was throwing bitchface left and right
I'm not 100% on boxing rules, so here's the dumb version. They go three rounds. Whoever has the most points after the three rounds wins. Canadian boxer wins 2 out of 3 rounds. But they both have the same number of points.
So, rather than going with the person who won the most rounds as the winner, they go to the judges and the judges say that the British guy wins (and is now guaranteed a medal.)
During the match, the British guy was doing a Bad Thing (he was holding the Canadian boxer's head down). The referee stopped him three times for doing this. According to the boxing rules, if a boxer is stopped three times for doing the same bad thing, they're supposed to get a penalty = losing 2 points. But the judges never gave the British guy the penalty.
So Canada appealed, because not only did the Canadian boxer win more rounds, but the British boxer also didn't get penalized for doing the Bad Thing. Had he gotten the penalty, then the Canadian boxer would have won on points and on rounds won.
But the appeal was rejected.
The judging for boxing has been ridiculous the entire games. Honestly, the boxing federation needs to look at their life and their choices: they already sent a judge home and suspended another for shady juding in another matches.
the team will probably do stuff together but she probably won't get much individual interest :\ i'm sure she'll be commentating and stuff at future olympics like other past gymnasts but i don't see her getting subway commercials
WTF NBC
The girl who was the original favorite and ended up getting the silver was NOT happy
It was awkward/beautiful to watch
Those judges need to get their shit together.
The judging this Olympics, in all sports, has been shady as HELL.

I HOPE to God I'm wrong.
Maybe in MA, which I hope can be good for her. But mainstream, not really. NBC alone, has ignored the hell out of her.
