Gabby Douglas Hair Comments Confuse The Olympic Gymnast

Women's gymnastics all-around champion Gabby Douglas likes her hairstyle just fine, thanks.
The 16-year-old said Sunday she was a little confused when she logged onto her computer after winning her second gold medal in three days and discovered people were debating her pulled-back look.
"I don't know where this is coming from. What's wrong with my hair?" said Douglas, the first U.S. gymnast to win gold in team and all-around competition. "I'm like, `I just made history and people are focused on my hair?' It can be bald or short, it doesn't matter about (my) hair."
Douglas uses gel, clips and a ponytail holder to keep things in place while she competes, a style she's worn for years.
"Nothing is going to change," she said. "I'm going to wear my hair like this during beam and bar finals. You might as well just stop talking about it."
The bubbly teenager is the first African-American gymnast to win her sport's biggest prize. She had no idea she was lighting up social media until she Googled herself hours after winning her gold medal.
"I don't think people should be worried about that," she said. "We're all champions and we're all winners. I just say that it's kind of, a stupid and crazy thought to think about my hair."

shes already one of the very few black people out there so that already is nerve-wracking, and combined with how racist fucks think that other ungrateful white girl who put her medal in her damn pocket was 'robbed' of the gold medal (read white entitlement), you really think you're helping? By think all other black women would rather focus on her hair than on the fact she won a gold medal? AND the fact this will be used as fodder for racist fucks look at black on black crticism?
fuck you.
I'm going to wear my hair like this during beam and bar finals. You might as well just stop talking about it
i love her
Seriously, wtf. She looks adorable, but even if she didn't, why are they commenting?? Would they say that about a male athlete, or a white one? SMH.
all that being said, i hate this trend of finding a few people on twitter who say something and manufacture drama. there are enough people on twitter that you could pick a ridiculous theory at random and find a handful of tweets to make it seem legit. are we going to see a story about how the new mars rover is a hoax? i'm sure there are enough people on twitter saying that.
1. She did not spend a lot of time styling her hair (before competing in an athletic competition, HOW DARE SHE) and instead just got it out of her way so she could concentrate on, idk, winning a gold medal.
2. It is too natural.
3. It is not natural enough.
4. She, a woman, dared to not really care about her fucking looks for two seconds and instead was like "brb making Olympic history."
Not that her appearance should be the focus here anyway, but since it is, I'll say that it baffles me that anyone can look at her and see something other than a beautiful young woman. But really, fuck that, because what they should see is an accomplished, hardworking, dedicated, history-making female athlete.
God bless her. I would not have had the confidence and the presence of mind at 16 to respond in such a mature and self-assured way.
Of course, I was also not an Olympic gold medalist, so.
