Gabby Douglas Poses with Team USA's All-Around Gymnastics Champions

After scoring the top spot on the medals stand in Thursday's all-around gymnastics competition, Gabrielle "Gabby" Douglas was in good company with the three other American women who achieved the same feat.

Douglas, 16, officially joined the ranks of Nastia Liukin, Carly Patterson and Mary Lou Retton – and posed with her fellow all-around champions following her 62.232-point finish.

"Four generations of champs!" Tweeted Retton, 44, who won gold in the 1984 all-around. (Patterson, 24, won the all-around in 2004, and Liukin, 22, won it in 2008.)

"So proud of you @gabrielledoug," Liukin Tweeted.

Added Patterson: "You are glowing!"

Her fellow Fab Five Team USA gymnasts – McKayla Maroney, Jordyn Wieber, Kyla Ross and Aly Raisman – were also extending their praise to Douglas, who is the first African-American woman to win gold in the women's all-around. Her victory, after all, came on the heels of their team gold-medal win on Tuesday.

"You are the Olympic all around champion," Wieber wrote to Douglas on Twitter, "and you deserve it girl!"

What was the big hubabalo about her hair? There's not a large Black/African American Community (Preference goes to the individual) in my city but there were always at least 5-6 girls in my grade for as long as I can remember, and their hair looked like this (mainly in middle school/high school during gym or sports)

So I don't understand how were people expecting her hair to look?

Random, I googled Carly this morning. I didn't know she had to retire because of injuries. I remember her pursuing a music career and figured she retired because of that.

most gymnasts have to stop early because of injuries, whether a broken ankle or just wear and tear to their knees/ankles. there was a 29 year old competing for brazil this go around, and i still cannot understand how she is standing let alone competing at 29.

I know most quit because of injuries. I just remember Carly doing music shortly after the Olympics and getting an album deal and figured she quit for that so she could do it full-time.

mckayla did her first, more difficult vault, just fine - a bit weird on the landing with a hop. then she did the second vault, far easier, and slipped on the landing, her feet hit first, so it still counted, but she landed on her ass

she was highly favored to win gold, but that just screwed her over. she still won silver, even with that, though.
