Burt Reynolds on The Golden Girls, 1986

After mistakenly getting arrested for prostitution, because this was an ’80s sitcom after all, the girls get a surprise visit from Burt Reynolds, whose concert they missed while in the clink the previous evening.

George Clooney on The Golden Girls, 1987

Holy high hair, Batman! (Because remember the time he was Batman too?) Clooney put in lots of quality time on ’80s shows, and he spent this turn on The Golden Girls as a rookie undercover cop using the girls’ house as a base. Blanche really didn’t mind.

Mario Lopez on The Golden Girls, 1987

Pre-Saved by the Bell, Mario played a struggling immigrant student whom Dorothy took under her pastel-clad wing. Of course she helped him; who could resist those dimples?

jenny-lewis-golden-girls-tv-young-1985-1992-photo-GC

Jenny Lewis on The Golden Girls, 1987

Future Rilo Kiley frontwoman and Brooklyn Bridge star Jenny Lewis played Daisy, an evil little Sunshine Cadet who refused to give Rose her teddy bear back after Blanche accidentally sold it. Rose eventually outsmarted her. Eventually

Quentin Tarantino on The Golden Girls, 1988

You can have your Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction; I prefer my Quentin Tarantino as a back-row Elvis impersonator at Sophia’s wedding.

Bob Hope on The Golden Girls, 1989

Showbiz legend Bob Hope steals a kiss from Rue McClanahan during a cameo as Rose’s surrogate father (it’s complicated… go watch Oxygen) in this 1989 episode. Again, Blanche didn’t mind.

Julio Iglesias on The Golden Girls, 1989

While the girls were sharing memories around the table with cheesecake (so, a typical day), Sophia hit the Valentine’s Day jackpot by snagging the smoldering Julio Iglesias as her date for the evening. Blanche did mind this time.

bea-arthur-dick-van-dyke-golden-girls-tv-1985-1992-photo-GC

Dick Van Dyke on The Golden Girls, 1989

Television behemoth Dick Van Dyke played Dorothy’s lawyer-turned-clown boyfriend, saving some dolphins while wearing giant shoes in court and securing prime-time TV’s most powerful super-couple.

bea-arthur-sonny-bono-golden-girls-tv-1985-1992-photo-GC

Sonny Bono on The Golden Girls, 1990

In a glorious dream sequence, Dorothy has to decide between Lyle Waggoner and Sonny Bono (IMDB, kids). Of course, Sonny’s cameo is nothing compared to Sophia and Dorothy’s stirring rendition of “I Got You Babe.”

debbie-reynolds-rue-mcclanahan-golden-girl-tv-1985-1992-photo-GC

Debbie Reynolds on The Golden Girls, 1991

The new fourth roommate? Debbie Reynolds guests as Truby Steele, who almost became Dorothy’s replacement in the house, had she remarried Stan. Luckily, she went back to slamming the door in his face.

f

Fred Willard on The Golden Girls, 1991

Blanche has a way with men, but even she didn’t do much for the ex-priest played by Christopher Guest favorite and master of awkward situations Fred Willard.

That is my dream as well. But I'm mostly Rose with my stories. :-/
scotchsour 4th-Aug-2012 04:38 am (UTC)
Good Luck, I'm still trying to reach to the level of Designing Women Julia "The Terminator" Sugarbaker in balls to the wall epic put downs.
shining_starsxx 4th-Aug-2012 04:47 am (UTC)
Same.My side eye is ready.
slacker_chic 4th-Aug-2012 02:26 pm (UTC)
oh my God she has always reminded me so much of my late grandmother. She loved that show when she was alive and I swear they could have been twinsies.

hungryandhot 4th-Aug-2012 02:25 am (UTC)
Golden Girls and Designing Women are the best comedies ever.
loganx2 4th-Aug-2012 02:28 am (UTC)
I love designing women but it got kinda shitty once Jean smart and Delta burke left.
hungryandhot 4th-Aug-2012 02:30 am (UTC)
I agree, but I also think Golden Girls was shitty the last few seasons, too. Basically once Marc Cherry took over. The first few seasons of both shows were perfection though.
bigbranch 4th-Aug-2012 02:28 am (UTC)
wtf is designing women
atomicdogmeat 4th-Aug-2012 02:31 am (UTC)
I need to watch Designing women it looks to be awesome.I love the south minus the bigotry.
avilewoman 4th-Aug-2012 02:53 am (UTC)
I hope to be a combination of Dorothy Zbornak and Julia Sugarbaker when I'm in my golden years tbh.
freakshowbb 4th-Aug-2012 03:10 am (UTC)
your icon is the best icon ever

You look so good with blond hair and black roots its like not even funny
laurie_springs 4th-Aug-2012 03:20 am (UTC)
The only thing I've accomplished in life thus far is turning into Juila Sugarbaker lol

also ITA.
ukbedeviled 4th-Aug-2012 04:21 am (UTC)
I lived for when Designing Women got all serious though,I would cry omg. For example that HIV/AIDS episode :( holy shit!
devourlove 4th-Aug-2012 04:25 am (UTC)
those were my mom's favorite shows for the longest time. we watched them like every day they came on
rosewood39 4th-Aug-2012 02:53 pm (UTC)
this, I loved those shows when I was a kid.
atomicdogmeat 4th-Aug-2012 02:25 am (UTC)
I wish I could just live with them and be happy for once in my life.
loganx2 4th-Aug-2012 02:27 am (UTC)
flaw free show.

Lesbian!!! Isn't Danny Thomas one?

Will never not be funny.

"If Rose found out Danny Thomas was a lesbian, it would break her heart"
shining_starsxx 4th-Aug-2012 04:58 am (UTC)
Lesbian?.....Leeessbian.
chimbleysweep 4th-Aug-2012 02:27 am (UTC)
The top image is flipped and it's freaking me out.

I've got the DVDs in 24/7.
kitkat11467 4th-Aug-2012 02:31 am (UTC)
oh man, I'm glad you said something, I was staring at it for the longest time trying to figure out wtf was different
loonyluna26 4th-Aug-2012 03:16 am (UTC)
LOL I was so upset that the door was actually on the right and my whole life was a lie.
krycek_chick 4th-Aug-2012 05:21 am (UTC)
I thought it was an outtake, tbh. I was, like, "Why's he coming out of the kitchen here??"
rosewood39 4th-Aug-2012 02:55 pm (UTC)
That is what I was thinking! I know there door was on the other side, this picture is wrong.
herlovewasajoke 4th-Aug-2012 10:15 pm (UTC)
Oh thank god I'm not the only one who noticed that. I kept scowling at the screen.
atomicdogmeat 4th-Aug-2012 02:28 am (UTC)
This show is literally heaven for me. The girls are flawfree goddess who exist on a plane of existence denied to us mere mortals.
theshadowpuppet 4th-Aug-2012 02:29 am (UTC)
This post should be an excuse to post GG gifs.

apothecaries 4th-Aug-2012 02:50 am (UTC)

LOL yes!
qween_tartii 4th-Aug-2012 07:51 am (UTC)
lmao i remember this
cricketgrl 4th-Aug-2012 02:29 am (UTC)
I wanted Dorothy to wind up with Dick Van Dyke's character. They had such great chemistry in the episode.

This list also forgots Jerry Orbach and Paul Rodriguez.
notzi 4th-Aug-2012 04:18 am (UTC)
They did have great chemistry! I liked him a little better than Leslie Neilsen.

BTW, they also forgot to mention Cesar Romero. He had a guest stint as Sophia's boyfriend. They made a cute couple, too.
crucified 4th-Aug-2012 02:29 am (UTC)
I like the one with Sonny Bono, I just saw it the other day.
loganx2 4th-Aug-2012 02:32 am (UTC)
Sonny: "how many gold records do you have?"

Lyle: "none I was never married."

zing
chimbleysweep 4th-Aug-2012 02:34 am (UTC)
That's my favorite episode. Except that the first time I saw it in syndication, I flipped out thinking George would actually fake his death. George/Blanche forever.
crucified 4th-Aug-2012 02:44 am (UTC)
omg I flipped out about George, too. The ending with that was so sweet, I loved it.
honey_child 4th-Aug-2012 04:39 am (UTC)
I loved Dorthy singing "I've Got You, Babe" over the phone to Sonny to get him to hang up :D
loganx2 4th-Aug-2012 02:30 am (UTC)
It has always bothered me that Rose and Blanche's kids and Dorothy's sister gloria where played by different actors in different episodes.
chimbleysweep 4th-Aug-2012 02:32 am (UTC)
I liked the first Gloria much more.

And the first Kirsten.
bloody_hell 4th-Aug-2012 02:38 am (UTC)
It always bothered me how the ages for Dorothy's kids never matched up. She got pregnant at 17 but her kids looked like they were both in their mid 20s. Also the format of the house made no sense.
loganx2 4th-Aug-2012 02:40 am (UTC)
They had way too many bedrooms for that size house.
chimbleysweep 4th-Aug-2012 02:41 am (UTC)
I've been trying to figure out the layout of that house for my entire life. I still can't figure it out.
nicenicegirl 4th-Aug-2012 03:06 am (UTC)
i talk about the house layout all the time. there's no way that would have worked irl
lloydsgurl 4th-Aug-2012 02:44 am (UTC)
they probably didn't think that the show would be available for purchase when filming. less reason to care about continuity.
laurie_springs 4th-Aug-2012 03:32 am (UTC)
+ the age of Rebecca's child. That kid aged like three years in one lol
empirebird 4th-Aug-2012 02:30 am (UTC)
I can't change the channel when I happen upon an episode of Golden Girls. In fact, if you do, it's Un-American and you should be shot.
bloody_hell 4th-Aug-2012 02:35 am (UTC)
preach it
yououghtaknow 4th-Aug-2012 02:37 am (UTC)

This is true both of GG and I Love Lucy tbh.

Therefore Hallmark is the most American channel EVER.

moddchicc 4th-Aug-2012 02:31 am (UTC)
It's funny, but I still associate Jenny Lewis as an actress even though I like most of her music. I watched Troop Beverly Hills and Big Girls Don't Cry a lot as a kid, lol.
mmmdraco 4th-Aug-2012 03:09 am (UTC)
She is flawless. if you haven't watched "The Wizard", you should. Just for her. It's on youtube. It also has Fred Savage and Christian Slater and Beau Bridges and Beau Bridges' eyebrows, so it's pretty fun for being a kid's movie about a (probably) autistic boy kicking ass at video games.
loonyluna26 4th-Aug-2012 03:19 am (UTC)
lmao Beau Bridges' eyebrows
kerrence 4th-Aug-2012 08:02 am (UTC)
omg those are two of my favorite movies ever ever everrrrrrr

like my best friend will always text me shit like "attention kmart shoppers! blue light special, aisle 13. COOKIES."
ourabouras 4th-Aug-2012 11:05 pm (UTC)
OMG you're me!
icyblugurl 4th-Aug-2012 02:32 am (UTC)
I love this show!

Used to watch this with my mom back in the day. This would never get old!!!
