Women's All Around Final

The Artistic Gymnastics program continues this evening (Thursday) with the Women's All Around Final. The competition gets underway at the North Greenwich Arena at 4.30pm UTC. Can the leader from the Qualifications - Russian Victoria Komova pull it off again or will American Alexandra Raisman or compatriot Gabrielle 'Flying Squirrel' Douglas come up trumps? Could Russian Aliya Mustafina win? How about China's DENG Linlin or HUANG Qiushuang? What about Italian Vanessa Ferrari or maybe a surprise upset by Japan's top qualifier to the final, Asuka Teramoto? Romanian Larisa Andreea Iordache may be carrying an injury but could she find the strength to pull off a win? Or could it be another member of the twenty-four women field? All I know is that it is set to be a fabulous night of Gymnastics. I could not get to complete live scores for the Men, but I will definitely be around for the Women!

After Rotation One: It's Gabby Douglas in the lead over Alexandra Raisman and Victoria Komova of Russia. At the halfway point it is still Gabby Douglas in the lead with the two Russians - Komova and Aliya Mustafina in second and third respectively. Raisman in fourth. Heading into the final rotation it's Douglas! over the Russians still!!

GABBY DOUGLAS IS THE OLYMPIC AA CHAMPION!!! KOMOVA WINS THE SILVER MEDAL! Mustafina receives the bronze medal over Raisman on a tiebreaker.

butterbuns 2nd-Aug-2012 06:01 pm (UTC)
no they have the high bar
anchors_oceans 2nd-Aug-2012 06:04 pm (UTC)
they have the high bar and the parallel bars.
ppyajunebug 2nd-Aug-2012 06:09 pm (UTC)
Haha, no men do a single, parallel bar.

Paul Hunt is a former gymnast and current women's gymnastics coach who does comedic women's gymnastic routines at competitions. Like this one.
scarletfbl 2nd-Aug-2012 05:55 pm (UTC)
That's hilarious. He's pretty freaking good, tbh.
fwee_prower 2nd-Aug-2012 06:20 pm (UTC)

QUEEN GABBY
lowhumcrush 2nd-Aug-2012 05:48 pm (UTC)
wonder how NBC will spin this into another Jordyn puff piece
blackstarr82269 2nd-Aug-2012 05:50 pm (UTC)
i just cursed out nbc on twitter for this reason when i found she won.. they should be ashamed, man...
dior 2nd-Aug-2012 05:51 pm (UTC)
I am sooooo fucking tired of Jordyn; she's obviously good but Gabby has always been better (to me at least) and Jordyn is boring to watch imo
cricketgrl 2nd-Aug-2012 06:06 pm (UTC)
Jordyn seems like a spoiled little bitch.
nice_vibe 2nd-Aug-2012 05:54 pm (UTC)
No one can convince me that the reason the media rides Jordyn so hard and all but ignores Gabby has nothing to do with race.
preflyer 2nd-Aug-2012 05:55 pm (UTC)
i missed the other night, what happened with jordyn?
peacetrains 2nd-Aug-2012 06:21 pm (UTC)
Lol mte. I really don't have anything against Jordyn, but I am SO FUCKING SICK of hearing her sob story and wish NBC would just drop it. Hopefully this will shut them up, but probably not. I see a lot of "Jordyn reacts to her teammates gold medal win" pieces in our near future.
nicholasdee 2nd-Aug-2012 06:25 pm (UTC)
i feel bad for jordyn

she was so hyed up and just cracked

these girls are so young, and they have so much pressure
icangoforthat 2nd-Aug-2012 07:26 pm (UTC)
mte. plus Im tired of seeing her fucked up eyebrows
harrypotterlvr3 2nd-Aug-2012 07:41 pm (UTC)
jfc i am so tired of hearing about her and how it's ~soooo tragic and w/e.

ofc it's sad, but that's sport. the world doesn't stop revolving, move the fuck on.
starzangelus 2nd-Aug-2012 07:48 pm (UTC)
So glad Gabby & Aly got ahead of her. No way do I want those eyebrows to represent my country.
bonjourchloe 2nd-Aug-2012 08:53 pm (UTC)
ugh i'm fucking sick of jordyn
rinmonsterer 3rd-Aug-2012 04:02 pm (UTC)
I LOATHE NBC and their commentary. All they ever do is look for flaws in performances, even if they're amazing, suck all the joy out of it. Now I only watch their coverage on mute.
starchit 2nd-Aug-2012 05:48 pm (UTC)
ARGH I'M SO ANGRY THAT I MISSED THIS! I'll have to wait for NBC's shitty coverage tonight :(
starchit 2nd-Aug-2012 05:48 pm (UTC)
BUT YASSSSSSSS! GABBY! <3
pirate_smiles 2nd-Aug-2012 08:21 pm (UTC)
If you have the time, you can watch the replays of all the events on the NBC Olympics site. I skipped around to see the Americans and most of the other countries that I know NBC would never show. Though I should go back to watch the Russians...
starchit 2nd-Aug-2012 08:28 pm (UTC)
Oooh, I should do that. Thanks! :)
panteakid666 2nd-Aug-2012 05:48 pm (UTC)
Im so excited for that! I was hoping Gabby would win the gold!
acidpops7 2nd-Aug-2012 05:48 pm (UTC)

keepyourspleen 2nd-Aug-2012 06:05 pm (UTC)

sumdisaster 2nd-Aug-2012 06:16 pm (UTC)
Omg someone give a vid link for this routine plz

Can we talk about how much the tie break thing sucks??
dior 2nd-Aug-2012 05:50 pm (UTC)
poor aly :(
ichthyosaur 2nd-Aug-2012 05:51 pm (UTC)
ikr can we get a sudden death vault-off or something
imnotasquirrel 2nd-Aug-2012 05:58 pm (UTC)
how about a sudden death pommel-horse-off. >:)
sky_ablaze 2nd-Aug-2012 05:53 pm (UTC)
I feel so bad for her :(
__angelofmusic 2nd-Aug-2012 05:55 pm (UTC)
How does it work? My stream cut off so I still don't know why Aly wouldn't get a medal...
lokiyan 2nd-Aug-2012 06:12 pm (UTC)
They should just play chicken on the balance beam.
ekrelly 2nd-Aug-2012 06:48 pm (UTC)
ugh that was so stupid. Poor Aly. :(
cpb1220 2nd-Aug-2012 09:55 pm (UTC)
It really sucks. If they have to break the tie, they should go by who performed better on the most events... Aly did better in 3 of 4 iirc
masterofmystery 2nd-Aug-2012 05:49 pm (UTC)
that poor british girl. i still can't get over it

surprised there isn't a gif around yet
drfaith101 2nd-Aug-2012 05:55 pm (UTC)
She didn't land on her feet
aflaminghalo 2nd-Aug-2012 06:04 pm (UTC)
She landed on her knees. Gutted for her. She fell on her backside when she was warming up too, keeping it even.
konichiwacobra 2nd-Aug-2012 05:53 pm (UTC)
That was so sad.
calcified 2nd-Aug-2012 05:54 pm (UTC)
What happened?
arlen_mci 7th-Aug-2012 01:49 am (UTC)
do you know her name? I'm trying to find video but can't find anything :(
dior 2nd-Aug-2012 05:49 pm (UTC)
YAY GABBY!!!!!

but why did they focus on Komova crying/getting silver rather than Gabby smiling/winning gold when the scores were announced? they did the same with Jordyn and I am tired of these cry babies, I want to see Gabby win and bask in her glory!!!
kimberlyjoan 2nd-Aug-2012 05:52 pm (UTC)
media these days has become overly story obsessed and heartless
kierwynn 2nd-Aug-2012 05:55 pm (UTC)
I know! I was so disappointed. I wanted to see Gabby's face when she saw the score and realized she won and all of that. Instead, they were all up in Komova's space.
hollis1975 2nd-Aug-2012 06:07 pm (UTC)
the russian team seemed to be in a flood of tears lately
anchors_oceans 2nd-Aug-2012 06:09 pm (UTC)
lol the BBC commentator was like "crying during the team finals, crying during the individuals... *sigh*" clearly he was done with these sad tears over a silver medal.
kiki3291 2nd-Aug-2012 11:42 pm (UTC)
Lol yeah. But damn, even during the team finals Russia was like one second away from breaking into tears even before they did anything.
nicholasdee 2nd-Aug-2012 06:31 pm (UTC)
schadenfreude?
eaglefan2011 2nd-Aug-2012 05:50 pm (UTC)
YAASSS Queen Gabby!!!
isntdaveone 2nd-Aug-2012 05:50 pm (UTC)
the whole controversy about that girl's hair was so racist.
scarletfbl 2nd-Aug-2012 05:51 pm (UTC)
What controversy?
rubyboots 2nd-Aug-2012 05:52 pm (UTC)
the girl who had all that glittery crap on her head? I can't remember anyone else's hair tbh lol
aflaminghalo 2nd-Aug-2012 06:06 pm (UTC)
Douglas? I thought Raisman with that little knotty thing on top of her head looked much worse.
palmsread 2nd-Aug-2012 06:08 pm (UTC)
yeah, my sister just told me about that. it is so upsetting and ridiculous.
anchors_oceans 2nd-Aug-2012 06:11 pm (UTC)
jfc. they just want to hair out of their faces so they can kick ass better! lord almighty people are fucking morons.
chihaya19 2nd-Aug-2012 06:16 pm (UTC)
pressed ass people will find anything to complain about. sorry they are jealous of a woman who is 10000000x fiercer than they are
winniechili 2nd-Aug-2012 06:46 pm (UTC)
Wasn't it mostly other black women making those comments though? At least in the story I read all the tweets came from people whose profile pictures were of black women...
kimberwyn 2nd-Aug-2012 09:12 pm (UTC)
It was mainly other black women saying that stuff from what I read. Not to say that that makes it ok, it was still silly.
scarletfbl 2nd-Aug-2012 05:50 pm (UTC)
Making us proud, Gabby! :')
trella24 2nd-Aug-2012 05:50 pm (UTC)
I want to see interviews and shit with the other teammates
