cops sent to miley cyrus and liam hemsworth's home after 'swatting' prank

Cops raced to Miley Cyrus' L.A. house tonight after receiving a report about a possible home invasion ... but when they arrived to the scene, it turned out to be a false alarm ... and all signs point to a troubling prank known as "Swatting."

Law enforcement sources confirm ... the LAPD received a 911 call at 6:50 PM to report a possible home invasion, possible shots fired.

The LAPD responded immediately ... guns drawn ... but the house was quiet, no one was home ... and there was no sign of a crime. Cops determined it was a false alarm.

Law enforcement tells TMZ ... officials now believe the caller is a "911 abuser."

The call seems to fall in line with a prank called "Swatting" -- in which a caller tries to trick emergency responders into dispatching law enforcement (like the SWAT team) to a home by making up a serious crime.

Cops tell TMZ ... if the call was indeed a prank, which it appears to be, the caller will be arrested ... and face serious criminal charges. In fact, we're told if someone were to be hurt or killed due to the prank, the caller could even face felony charges.

wtf. Edit: Apparently the cops thought it was a kidnapping in progress?? Thats awful, wtfff.

how is it a prank? where is the fun in calling 911 and potentially fucking other people over who are in real emergencies and wasting the swat/police's time? jebus.

this reminds me: my biggest nightmare is calling 911 in a murder-type situation and having the line be busy. omg.

i didnt even know people get a busy line/are put on hold when they call 911 (referring to the 3rd comment above mine) until this post tbh. i just dont get how people call 911 for stupid/non-emergency stuff. i feel like id be nervous calling them even for an emergency, like id panic and be stupid and say stuff that wouldnt be helping them help me lol.

My biggest nightmare is having to call 911 during a state of emergency, then having the clock sign show up on my blackberry.

When BBs freeze, it's for minutes at a time! Minutes!

this reminds me of the case of this women here in korea who was kidnapped and killed even though she managed to call 911 and had her GPS on but it took the police 6 hours or so to find her D:

I know I called because there was a shooting on my street and the line kept clicking and then went silent then clicked again, I don't think I will call again because I am sure every other person on my street was calling too.

The reminds me of about winter time two years ago here in Pittsburgh. A gentleman's wife or daughter (I don't remember) called 911 MULTIPLE times to get him help with no response. EMS didn't show up until over an hour later and he had already passed away..

This reminds me of this news story from years ago, where a group of young people thought it would be "funny" to go around removing stop signs on the road. And then, ya know, two cars rammed into each other both thought they had the right of way, and now there are people who are dead because of their idiocy.

Like...what the fuck. How is that fucking funny.

Edit: I found the story I was thinking of: http://www.nytimes.com/1997/06/21/us/3-are-sentenced-to-15-years-in-fatal-stop-sign-prank.html

Holy shit. How could they have possibly thought that would end well?

reminds me of those kids who throw boulders/stones off overpasses as a prank to hit drivers underneath.

people have died because of it.

WTF!? how did they not think taking down all those signs would cause consequences? they were in theyre 20s, they should know what driving entails by then. that is so horrible, but im glad they at least went to jail for it.
bohemianvixen 2nd-Aug-2012 07:07 am (UTC)
This makes me rage. They should be in jail for longer than that. Fucking people!!!
