Elizabeth Olsen Will Not Be in ’50 Shades of Grey’

Another day, another 50 Shades of Grey rumor. The latest had Emma Watson strapping up to play Ana Steele in the adaptation of E. L. James’ S&M-heavy romance novel. But after the Harry Potter star recently quashed those rumors to EW, it’s on to the next one. Other names that have churned the rumor mill include Kristen Stewart, Emma Roberts, Shailene Woodley, Amanda Seyfried, Dakota Fanning, and even Lindsay Lohan. One of the more popular and wishful guesses was Elizabeth Olsen, who would have immediately lent the project Serious Movie credibility, rather than a cash-grab adaptation of Twilight fan fiction. Sorry, guys. I recently chatted with Olsen, and when I asked if the film was a possibility, she replied, “No! No! No!”  She also said this:

“But it’s had a huge impact on society. Apparently rope sales have skyrocketed because women who’ve read the book are really getting into bondage, which is kind of great. It’s such a taboo for women to actually discuss sexuality without the help of Cosmopolitan. All of a sudden, this book has become a sensation because the women reading it haven’t had access to this kind of thing before. I was talking to a guy who was making a joke about it, saying, ‘Clearly these women just need to watch porn.’ In a way, he’s right.”

So it’s official: Elizabeth Olsen will not be starring in 50 Shades of Grey. Do with that what you will, Internet.

She is so pretty. :) Glad she decided to not be in this film. I really think they should have gone the HBO series route with a focus on comedy and camp. This could have been great for the female demographic.
rileycakes 31st-Jul-2012 08:39 pm (UTC)
is there actually any real human being who would legitimately want to be associated with this movie

Anyone who wants to be a big star would. Even if you hate it the buzz around this book is huge and the movie might be too.
winterlillies 31st-Jul-2012 09:14 pm (UTC)
Bret Easton Ellis really wants to write it (the screenplay). William Levy said he loved to be in it.

I think she'd have been pretty good but I still think Allison Williams is the best for Ana. (I hate myself for having read those fucking books and for having thought so much about this)
kurtvonnegut 31st-Jul-2012 08:40 pm (UTC)
ugh ban all speculation on this shitty ass book please. literally the only posts about it are people saying "fuck no, i'm not gonna be in this shitfest."
monsieurflynn 31st-Jul-2012 08:40 pm (UTC)
GOOD. I'm disappointed that all her movies post-MMMM haven't been that great. :/
xtinkerbellax 31st-Jul-2012 08:47 pm (UTC)
What else has she had out besides that stupid Silent House movie?
monsieurflynn 31st-Jul-2012 08:49 pm (UTC)
Peace, Love & Misunderstanding with Jane Fonda

It was bad. Really bad.

How was MMMM? I've been meaning to watch it
hello_samm 31st-Jul-2012 08:40 pm (UTC)
I was in Wal Mart and I opened this book to a random page and it was talking about nipples. I felt so gross touching the book in public so I quickly put it down. *shuddeR*
hera_bearrra 31st-Jul-2012 09:15 pm (UTC)
the horror of nipples
mercibeaucul 31st-Jul-2012 09:22 pm (UTC)
You felt gross because the book was so shit, or just because it was talking about nipples? I hope for your sake it was the former rather than the latter, because I cling to the hope that nobody other than members of the Duggar family are that prudish.
hello_samm 31st-Jul-2012 09:27 pm (UTC)
The first one jfc... The writing was so horrid. An entire paragraph about nips.
residentditz 31st-Jul-2012 08:40 pm (UTC)
No one with any caliber of talent will be in this film because no agent or publicist with their head on straight would allow it to happen. Straight to DVD Twilight rip-off IMHO.
liliana_ 31st-Jul-2012 08:41 pm (UTC)
“No! No! No!”

lol, I love her. And of course she wouldn't be in this shit.
greenfairy_87 31st-Jul-2012 08:41 pm (UTC)
1. Good for her, she is so much better than this
2. Just how do they plan on doing this? Will it be an R or NC17, because either way it seems few studios want to do movies with those ratings as it limits the audience and thus is harder to make a profit.
muffledlaugh 31st-Jul-2012 08:47 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I'm seriously curious about your #2 q.

I could see them pushing the R rating though, since this book was a huger hit with older women as opposed to Twilight which I think had more teen & tween fans.

I still can't believe we're having this conversation and that shit is actually going to be made into a movie.
xtinkerbellax 31st-Jul-2012 08:51 pm (UTC)
It seems like it was optioned so fast, it became a hit and then all of the sudden they were talking about a movie.
xeroxicide__ 31st-Jul-2012 10:02 pm (UTC)
Maybe NR? It seems popular enough to still profit even if it's shown in less venues
therealycats 31st-Jul-2012 10:03 pm (UTC)
There is no way a major studio is going to purposely make an NC-17 movie. I assume it would be R, and probably more ~mature~ (even I don't know quite what I mean by that) to keep the demo of middle aged women that the book seems to be popular with, but I could also KIND OF see them going as low as PG-13. It's VERY doubtful, but if they want to pull the Twilight crowd in, I could see them doing it.
berry_wish 31st-Jul-2012 10:05 pm (UTC)
I think they'll be more willing to do a hard R since it already has a built in fanbase. I wonder if there will be a porn parody?
loganx2 31st-Jul-2012 08:41 pm (UTC)
Im so nervous that someone I like will actually be in the movie and then I will have to judge them FOREVER!
shift_from_here 31st-Jul-2012 08:43 pm (UTC)
No shit. I'm praying my fav stays as far away from this as possible.
shining_starsxx 31st-Jul-2012 09:47 pm (UTC)
Seriously. I'm praying the rumors will always be rumors.
kurtvonnegut 31st-Jul-2012 08:41 pm (UTC)
the women reading it haven’t had access to this kind of thing before

lmao. yes, women are complete idiots who don't know how to use the internet or go into the erotica section at a bookstore or have sex with their own partners.
lanthiere 31st-Jul-2012 08:46 pm (UTC)
And it's for that reason that I just don't understand why 50 Shades has started such a revolution. It's nothing new and it's not even well-written, nor does it portray a healthy BDSM relationship... idgi.
kurtvonnegut 31st-Jul-2012 08:48 pm (UTC)
lol every single article i read about it is so condescending to women. ~now da womenz have porn of their very own, how cute~ uh yeahhhhhhhh.
therealycats 31st-Jul-2012 10:09 pm (UTC)
Middle America. I mean, yes, women CAN go to the erotica section in bookstores (or Amazon, whatever), but how many are really looking for hardcore BDSM erotica? Also, lbr, the media latched on to this like a hungry baby to a lactating breast because women aren't ~supposed~ to be sexual, so for whatever reason, because this book experiments with tampon sex and some spanking, the old white men who run the media think that the very idea that women have orgasms is some novel thing that needs to be explored ad nauseum.

I'ma go decide whether or not I really want to spend $10 on a Kindle book about actual D/s relationships now though.
xeroxicide__ 31st-Jul-2012 10:07 pm (UTC)
Lol for some of my fb friends it's the only selection of ~literature~ they've ever treasured. I can see how inaccessibility was a factor. That and they relate with the girl.
just444 31st-Jul-2012 08:41 pm (UTC)
she's too good for this shit anyway
natasha_hc 31st-Jul-2012 08:42 pm (UTC)
Good girl. Now Emilia has to say no next.
shift_from_here 31st-Jul-2012 08:45 pm (UTC)
Hell yes. She's far too good for this trash.
