Love it or hate it, horseback riding is about establishing a trusting relationship between horse and rider, and here you can see the relationship is lacking. That horse wasn't scared when it trotted away - it was just over the whole thing.

i'm not sure what exactly happened, but if she hit her horse after she fell off, she probably got a warning. if it happens more often, she could get fined or eliminated.
but yeah, some people feel like a whip is an acceptable form of punishment. the only time I ever whipped my horse, and it was one half decent smack, was because he viciously kicked out at another horse with a rider on while they went past. The other rider could have been seriously hurt, and the brat never did it again haha. I may have carried a crop or a whip with me, but normally it was in my boot instead of in my hands
